There was a doubt about whether Shola Ameobi will be fit to play at the Reebok tomorrow.
Shola Ameobi – back in training
And reflecting on Shola Ameobi’s fitness yesterday, Chris Hughton had said the following:
“We’re still assessing Shola and he will be touch and go.” “We haven’t ruled him out yet.”
But good news today is that Shola returned to training yesterday, so he could well be in the frame for tomorrow’s game at the Reebok, where it would be great if Newcastle can return to their winning ways.
Newcastle have only a single point from their last couple of games against two mediocre sides in Blackburn Rovers and Fulham, and were perhaps a little unlucky to not get the win last Saturday against the Cottagers.
It looks like Andy Carroll has suffered no set-backs since his England debut on Wednesday night, so the question now is what kind of team formation will Chris Hughton start tomorrow afternoon.
We think he will go 4-5-1 because with Cheick Tiote missing through suspension for this game, Chris will want to ensure Newcastle are competitive in central midfield.
So we would expect Shola to be on the bench tomorrow, but it will be good news if Shola’s hamstring problems have now cleared up.
We’ll bring out our Match Preview on the Bolton game later today.
