Smith And Guthrie In Contention For Tiote Place Tomorrow

With Ivory Coast International Cheick Tiote suspended for tomorrow’s game at Bolton, it seems that Alan Smith and Danny Guthrie will be in contention for his place.

Alan Smith – should get start tomorrow

In fact we expect both players to start tomorrow, with Alan Smith taking over the defensive midfield position from the Ivorian, who could be a big miss tomorrow, but Alan has shown he can still play a bit on Tyneside.

Hughton told the Evening Chronicle today:

“Alan has certainly been in contention.” “He has been a fantastic player for us.”

“Irrespective of whether he is playing or not, he’s a good player to have around.” “He’s great around the squad.”

“He’s our vice-captain and it is good to have such a big personality to have around the place.”

Smith has not appeared in the Premier League since the terrible 2-0 loss against Blackpool in September at St. James’ Park,  although the former Leeds and Man United player had an excellent game at Stamford Bridge in the Carling Cup in September.

That’s when Newcastle’s second team beat Chelsea’s second team 4-3 in a thrilling game.

It’s true that Alan is great for team spirit,  and of course was the Newcastle vice captain last year, although he captained the side many times in Nicky Butt’s absence, and then former Bolton skipper, Kevin Nolan got that job this season, after Nicky left the club.

We look to Alan to have a strong game tomorrow, and we think Danny Guthrie will also start the game, as we expect Chris to play five men across midfield at the Reebok, with only big Andy Carroll up front.

Ciaran – I’d like to keep Smith off the pitch against Bolton (now that they’re sort of a quick, attacking team), so I wouldn’t object to giving Colo a shot at defensive center mid. I think we’ve got enough depth at center back to do it.

I thought Smudger had a good game against Arsenal in the CC too and he deserves a start. Lord knows he is due for a goal too.

    Looks like Smith will start therefore;
    —————–Krull
    Simpson—Williams—Colo—Jose
    —————Smith
    Ranger—-Guthrie—Nolan—–Jonas
    ——————Carrol
I wouldn`t mind seeing Sol for Wills or Colo against Davies and prefer Ranger to Routs on the right.

    Guthrie! simple because

    Younger

CAN pass the ball (thats what midfield does right? Smith only know how to tackle…)

Guthrie will take those freekicks and corner. Smith CAN’T

Alan Smith is a good leader, not good player

Brutoon,I would take Alan Smith for this match,His leadership skills can help Kevin Nolan.I think that Tiote And Nolan have tough time understanding one and other at times during the match.Alan Smith is a good player no doubts about that,Trust me if he scores this weekend his confidence will be High.I hate when Wor fans doubt likes of Alan Smith,Shola Ameobi And James Perch. We must believe in your players,Doesn’t matter how much you hate them or dislike them.As we Believe in Chris Hughton,We believe in your Players !

yeah.. we must believe our player.. but i think guthrie should play as the right wing and not routledge. smith as defensive midfielder. and ranger or best can replace ameobi as striker..
    so, smith replace tiote
    guthrie replace barton
    ranger@best replace ameobi
