Don’t ever accuse Chris Hughton of being feint hearted, as he again is playing 4-4-2 away from home, with both Shola Ameobi and Andy Carroll starting up front for the Magpies.
It’s not too much of a surprise for the Newcastle side, given that Chris is playing 4-4-2 and the midfield is Guthrie Smith Nolan and Gutierrez, so Smith gets the start and Guthrie gets another chance on the right wing in the absence of Joey Barton.
So it looks like Shola has recovered from the hamstring injury that has kept the local lad out of the last game at home to Fulham.
Kevin Nolan captains the Newcastle side against his old club today, and it seems that Chris believes the Trotters, who have conceded 19 goals this season, thinks Bolton may be exposed in defense.
It looks a very decent Newcastle side to us, and it also looks like Newcastle are going all out for the 3 points – as usual these days.
Nile Ranger and James Perch make the bench for Newcastle this afternoon.
Howay The Lads!!

Comment #8We’ll lack width and I’m not sure Guthrie will be capable of playing the crosses Barton was (thus justifying a CM in RM pos.) but I’m pleased we’ve setting out an attacking stall.
Bring on Routledge should we lack creativity in the 2nd half.

Comment #9Bolton are strong and good in the air, so it’s stupid to have Shola and Carroll up front. We need guys with pace against a team like Bolton. Lovenkrands and Xisco should be up front today.
We saw it against Fulham. Hangeland kept Carroll very quitet especially in the air.

Comment #10NAM, Hangeland is a beast, he kept Carroll quiet, but me thinks Bolton’s defence would struggle with him.
I hope Andy is 100% fit and sharp looking.
If so, he will surely score.

Comment #27Williamson has been our best player so far, cutting things out, making blocks, making things look simple, but he shouldn’t even be on the box!
We’ve been TERRIBLE going forward, they’ve got 2 players on Carroll every time, that means we have more free players – let’s use them! there’s been zero support so far!
Nolan none-existent, Guthrie has done nout, Gutierrez has tried to run, but to no avail – if he plays a pass into Carroll’s feet he needs to continue his run – simple, simple stuff!

Comment #29I honestly didn’t see him do anything. All I saw was running and then him fall over – not even a yellow (that’s why I’m not a ref, eh? :D).
We’re playing the second half game by the looks of it. We’ll take a hammering in the first half but 45+ we’ll take the game to them. I’d like to say Bolton are playing well but I think we’re just playing terribly 🙁

Comment #31A central midfield of Smith and Nolan will always struggle because my granny can run quicker. I reckon we play the long ball game better than anybody else in the league. That seems to be OK with fans these days. Some fans even think we play like Arsenal along the deck. Hoots can get away with anything. Sam got slaughtered for playing like this.

We are poor. 41,000 turned up at Blackburn after wins against Scum and Gooners. That must tell you something.

Comment #33Thump – from what I saw it was a bodycheck – in that position of the pitch and with them attacking, it’s a yellow in my eyes – commentators said they saw a use of the head (will this be 2 post match punishments dished out by the FA?).
We’re playing much better in the past 5-10 minutes. Enrique whipped a beautiful low ball across the box, Nolan unlucky not to get on the end of it!)
