Gutierrez – We Have To Concentrate On Next Game

Jonas Gutierrez is the first Newcastle player to talk about the game on Saturday, and he said the lads played badly and have to get it behind them, and concentrate only on the next game against Chelsea at St. James’ Park next Sunday.

Jonas Gutierrez – we have to concentrate on next game

After the surprisingly poor performance on Saturday, which came as a surprise to everybody, including the players it seems, this is what our Argentine left-winger said this morning:

“It’s pretty obvious that it was a poor performance. It was really hard for us and Bolton played a lot better than us. We cannot dwell on it. In this league and this division it is always hard and the teams that find consistency have an opportunity to have a good season and finish in the top ten.”

“That is the big mistake we are making. We are not regularly winning and we have lost a lot of points that we should have been picking up. It would have got us higher up the table.”

“We are all feeling disappointed but now we have to focus on the next game. All the mistakes we have been making in this game we have to make sure we don’t repeat in seven days’ time and beyond.”

With the news today that Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti may be thinking of quitting Chelsea, it may be a good time to meet the Pensioners next Sunday, because they hopefully will be unsettled by the position of their manager, and of course they have also lost 3 of their last 4 league games.

Gutiérrez is hoping that the Newcastle side can bounce right back on Sunday, and if the lads can do that it will restore the confidence on Tyneside, that we can avoid relegation this season, which is the number one goal.

Jonas continued:

“Everything has to be focused on next week. We have to work hard and prepare for the next game because Chelsea at home is going to be really hard. We have to get this game out of the way and focus on the next one.”

“This is definitely the worst we have felt this season, this was a bad result. Losing is one thing, but when you lose to a score like this it is very tough.”

“In the past, whenever we have played poorly or things have gone against us, we have managed to bounce back, we hope we can do that again. Chelsea have lost again so it will make it even harder for us next week, but we have the strength of character to be strong against them.”

We’ll have to wait and see what Newcastle side will turn up against Chelsea, but with all the surprise results it’s not beyond the realm of possibility that we can do well against the strong Chelsea side.

If our best side turns up next Sunday we can even win that game.

Too little too late, Jonas. You were as ineffectual as the rest when the chips were down. Still, at least you didn’t get yourself banned for the next 3 matches, so we’ll see if you are just talk or the real deal.

Jonas didn’t have the best of times on Saturday. But at least he gave a full effort, which is more than I can say about half the players on the pitch.

All very well saying the team must concentrate on the next game. Why did we fail to concentrate on the last one? You are professional footballers – do you really have to be told, or tell yourselves, to concentrate? Not your fault Jonas and I do respect what you are trying to say. Trouble is some of your team-mates let us down and you know who.

Guti is best used as a sub. He needs a wake-up call again. Give him a rest on the bench for a game or two. Then he’ll have his best game ever afterwards.
