Hughton Hopes Williamson Charge Dropped – It’s A Long Shot

We should be hearing shortly how the appeal went with Mike Williamson in front of the FA chiefs in London today.

Mike Williamson – 3 or 4 game ban – or goes free?

Newcastle had the chance to accept the violent conduct  charge, and Mike Williamson would have been given a 3 match ban, but the club have contested the charge, and we’ll soon know what the outcome is.

And if  the appeal is thought to be frivolous the ban will be extended to 4 games.

Chris Hughton seems confident the appeal will be successful, and he backed the 27 year-old yesterday, and said today:

“We’re appealing,” “What we’re hoping is that the charge will be dropped, and Mike will be available for Chelsea.”

It seems that the case hinges on whether Mike just body checked Johan Elmander, or whether Mike hit the big Swede with his head.

The antics of Elmander suggested he had been hit by Mike with his head, as he put in a wonderful display of  Hollywood-class acting – as it looked he had been completely knocked out.

Now we know what his new career will be when he leaves football – it’s straight over to Hollywood to get that big screen test.

But any appeal with the FA is always a long shot, and our guess is the FA will stick to their 3 match ban, because we don’t think Mike’s appeal is frivolous at all, but he must prove to the authorities that he just body checked Johan, despite the antics of Elmander.

Comments welcome.
