After an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing today, Newcastle United defender Mike Williamson was given a three match suspension for violent conduct – as was expected.
Mike Williamson – earlier this season
The FA issued this statement this afternoon on their web-site:
“At a Regulatory Commission hearing today, Newcastle United defender Mike Williamson was given a three match suspension for violent conduct.”
“Williamson was charged following an incident involving Johan Elmander in his side’s fixture with Bolton Wanderers on Saturday 20 November.”
The good news is at least Mike’s case wasn’t though to be frivolous otherwise he would have been banned an extra game.
Williamson was charged with violent conduct after a bizarre incident involving Johan Elmander in the game on Saturday when Mike seemed to body check the big Swede who seemed to have been knocked out.
It’s almost certain that both Sol Campbell and Steven Taylor will now make their first Premier League starts of the season on Sunday against Chelsea, and we’ll have to rely on their vast experience, since they will be a little short of match practice.
