Mike Williamson Gets Three Match Ban

After an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing today, Newcastle United defender Mike Williamson was given a three match suspension for violent conduct – as was expected.

Mike Williamson – earlier this season

The FA issued this statement this afternoon on their web-site:

“At a Regulatory Commission hearing today, Newcastle United defender Mike Williamson was given a three match suspension for violent conduct.”

Williamson was charged following an incident involving Johan Elmander in his side’s fixture with Bolton Wanderers on Saturday 20 November.”

The good news is at least Mike’s case wasn’t though to be frivolous otherwise he would have been banned an extra game.

Williamson was charged with violent conduct after a bizarre incident involving Johan Elmander in the game on Saturday when Mike seemed to body check the big Swede who seemed to have been knocked out.

It’s almost certain that both Sol Campbell and Steven Taylor will now make their first Premier League starts of the season on Sunday against Chelsea, and we’ll have to rely on their vast experience, since they will be a little short of match practice.

Comments welcome.

So, Sol will surely star against Chelsea, but will Steven Taylor?
Maybe Perch will get the slot, eh?

He was never going to get away with it any how. The bent FA had already decided.
Now they will be watching everything the lads do. Dont expect to get away with much anymore.

FA=gets the lead from Sky Sports, then acts as Prosecutor, judge and jury. The FA is sort of like a terrorist cell attack, you just don’t know when they are going to strike you dead, you can only guess by what the TV guys consider to be news..

For some reason I feel a bit happy to see our defence re-shuffled. It could have been in better circumstances but im happy to see what Sol Campbell and S Taylor can do together.

With the number of camera angles, it`s almost impossible to get away with anything untoward in to- days game.
That is unless it`s off the ball and uncovered by video.
It`s a tool that to days governing bodies under utilize, mainly through ignorance and partly because they are cautious of initiating changes to the game.
I agree with the point of making un-nessessary
changes, however there have been numerous poor decisions made, that have resulted in clubs losing major competitions(Barca. vs. Chelsea final) and had the refs used the video tape (taking seconds) could have resulted in reversing decisions made in an instant and possibly from a bad angle.
I`m not advocating video be used in every situation, as we are aware human error is a part of the game, but in only serious offenses (red cards-disputed goals, etc)
Not too much to ask ! and instantly, not way after the fact, to ensure it does`nt effect the out come of the game being played.
    What do you think ?

Am I concerned by Colo & Williamson being replaced by Campbell & Taylor, not one bit, believe they are a better combination.
Well just a little concerned by their lack of match practice and general fitness.

The FA could do a lot in regards to that (eg: a goal line official rather than video replay system) but it seems people are worried about it being abused. The NFL have had a replay system in for ages now and have hammered out the details to such a point where the system works very well.

This explains it better than I can but it’s a very effective system. 3 challenges a game (per team), 1 minute to make the call and it was utilised in the Superbowl (New Orleans successfully challenged a touch down that the ref didn’t give because of something or other, idk).

FIFA don’t want to move on with the times because “human element is a part of the game” which is a bit of a joke to me. I mean have you tried to defend that against an American who is getting into football? It’s impossible!

Well you cant convince me otherwise that someone didnt have money riding on the Chelsea v Barca champs league game. And im convinced that is the reason they dont want video technology. All the excuses they make are bull.

Bench: Soderberg, Kadar, Perch, Smith,Lovenkrands, Xisco, Ameobi.

This should be the team i think, if Nolan or Guthrie doesn’t perform in the firs half replace with Ameobi or Loven , if Routledge isn’t good swap with jonas on the right and xisco on the left wing.

Completely agree bentoon. There was definitely something going on with that game and I think you have to be blind not to see it.

I like the look of that line up, Macedonia and yes, Daniel he is.

C’mon you can’t put Shola out of the team now!

He only ever scores against two teams; Sunderland & Chelsea.

Drop him next game sure, but not now! 😉
