Mike Ashley Braves Weather To Visit Newcastle

Mike Ashley was on Tyneside yesterday, as he braved the weather to visit Chris Hughton and the lads in training.

Mike and Chris on a previous Ashley visit to Benton

Mike has some contract work to complete, hopefully by the end of the year, and he needs to sign up Steven Taylor, and also his manager Chris Hughton, to new contracts before too long.

By getting Newcastle United immediately back to the Premier League in the first season of asking,  you could argue a good case that Chris helped put another £100M onto the value of Mike’s Newcastle club. How much is that worth in a  new contact?

The news is that a deal may be struck for Steven Taylor tomorrow, as his agent Paul Stretford is due on Tyneside to discuss Newcastle’s new improved offer, and before too long surely he needs to start negotiating again with Chris,  and give him a new decent contract offer – surely the man has deserved at least that over the last 16 months.

Chris Hughton said this today:

“Mike was at training yesterday, he always likes to watch training and it was good for the players to see him make the journey up to Newcastle.”

There may be some news that could leak out tomorrow,  following the meeting with Paul Stretford, and we’ll be hoping Steven has come to his senses and signs his new contract.

Then the next thing  for Mike Ashley is to see Chris Hughton rewarded for the job he’s done at Newcastle since he took over last year.  Chris is different to a lot of other managers today, in that he’s actually earned his new improved contract.

Do the right thing Mike.

Has to decide if he want`s Taylor or not, rumored that Chelsea will offer nine mill.
Why they would want to offer that much for a player they could probably get fo nothing come seasons end ?
Probably a bit of hard ball bargaining to-morrow, expect he will get the contract he wants, hope so !

As for Chris. Hughton, would be the worst mistake ever as an owner not to give him a decent long term contract, why ?
Well just look a what he has accomplished so far on peanuts and it takes time patience and a plan to build a side, plus changing horses at this time would be risky !

Leave Hoots to negotiate his own contract in his own time, in private and not on web pages or back pages.
He is doing a good job of it with the team performance overall and Ashley is no fool and must know it.
But remember, if we lose to WBA there’ll inevitably be calls for CH’s head as well.

we probably will lose to west brom and then destroy a better team in the very near future. but chris will have my backing aslong as we stay up this season and i am very optimistic as we all probably are of this happening.

CH will be given his contract extension in due course & then come the end of season, we’ll find that we’re still in the PL, debt free (apart from the monies owed to Ashley) and CH will be given a few bob to spend in the transfer market on strengthening the squad, it won’t be in the same range as Manc ‘cheating’ Citey but don’t be surprised if he’s not given at least a £20m warchest, plus anything he makes from selling the deadwood thats due to move on, players like Smith, Raylor, etc etc..
Ashley mad quite a few mistakes in his first 2 years but you have to give him his dues at having gotten us out of debt & able to be self-sufficient in just over 3 years, with the revenue created by the club & our wage bill down to a normal level, CH will have a nice little pot of dosh every transfer window should he need it!!!

    Well done Ashley, HWTL…

Repo I’m ok with taylor going but your way way off with Carroll, it would be madness to let Carroll go and Ashley might be a lot of things but I do not think he is mad.

Doctapaul I would agree with that

Chuck the 9mill rumour is 10 mths old

Yes to Hoots getting a contract extension I think that is coming in the new year and in my mind should be about a two year deal with options, if things keep going steadily in the up direction then the options are taken up and Hoots get better extensions, if things go bad then the compensation will not need to be as high when he goes.

I’m in complete agreement with Sav. Leave the contract negotiations to the people involved.

The most infuriating thing about all of this is that nobody has been asked for their opinion by Hughton or Ashley, yet every newspaper, pundit, mackem and premier league manager feels the need to chip in. I almost understand it with the newspapers, because this sort of horse sh1 t is where they get most of their money, and nobody really cares what the mackems and TV pundits think. What annoys me is the likes of Steve Bruce and Sam Allerdyce running their mouths off as if they’re trying to “back” Hughton, when they know all too well that what they’re actually doing is simply adding fuel to the fire. Adding to this kind of speculation is an attempt to destabilise a club that are doing well and can sort these things out in their own time, thank you very much.

Mind your own f*c king business, will you.
