David Wheater In If Steven Taylor Out?

Chris Hughton is usually pretty good at squashing rumors in the press that are not true, and when he was asked about the David Wheater rumor yesterday, he said there was no truth in it.

Steven Taylor – we hope he signed his contract – today?

However, the more we think of Wheater at Newcastle on a free transfer, the more we like it, so it was a bit of a disappointment that Newcastle may not be interested in David, the 6’5″ powerful Middlesbrough defender.

But of course today there will be a meeting today between Steven Taylor’s representative Paul Stretford  and the Newcastle hierarchy,  and that will be an important meeting.

If Steven signs along the dotted line, then Newcastle will have no need to be interested in bringing in another center-back like David Wheater.

For some reason we are confident that Steven will sign his new improved deal, because he will be happy to be back in the side, and he showed everybody that he is indeed a good player with a brave performance on Sunday – his first competitive start since last January.

If Steven continues to back off on signing his new contract, then there will be a number of Premier League clubs interested in the 24 year-old, including top club Liverpool.

There may even be some news today about the meeting, that may tell us how close Steven is to signing his new deal.

God I hope not. Wheater is a donkey and a thug better suited to a stoke or blackburn, cos he sure aint a footballer.

Look at his face and if you ever needed proof of in breeding in smoggy land he is it.

What’s wrong with bringing Kadar on, we still have colo and Willo, as well aa sol.

Wheater was a complete one season wonder in 07/08, since then he has done s**t all. Incredibly overrated, keeping Taylor would be a much better option.

exactly what I was thinking howay man, sign Wheater at the end of the season and release Sol – purely because he is so old now.

We all know this won’t happen though!

It has nothing to do with age, only ability.
For example, Danny Guthrie is not very old, but……………….
People were writing Sol Campbell off 3 years ago, but he showed class against Chelsea. If he keeps himself fit (which he obviously does), he is an Excellent squad member, and will bring on the young lads leaps and bounds. Wheater on the other hand is a half witted clogger, and we dont do that or need that in our team. CH has obviously spotted a contingency in case Taylor leaves, but Wheater has hardly even set the championship alight this year has he???.
Onwards and Upwards. Keep the faith.

They said the same about Ml. Dawson and now he’s being hailed as an England player.
tbh, although Taylor is always ready to throw himself in front of a truck for the team, stopping goalbound shots with his face, crotch, chest and even his hand, the better defenders rarely let themselves get into that situation. He is young but with lots of playing experience. Maybe playing alongside Sol will be the making of him, but ‘leaps and bounds’ – I don’t think so.
