Chris Hughton Sacked By Newcastle – After Saving The Club

Terrible news today that Chris Hughton, the 51-year-old Londoner, was dismissed today after Newcastle’s 3-1 thrashing at West Brom – and this has to come as a major major surprise and shock to Newcastle fans everywhere.

Chris Hughton – sacked as Newcastle manager today

We have to believe that Mike Ashley and company didn’t think Chris was a Premier League manager and that he was waiting for some bad results before he could sack the Londoner, who did a fantastic job for the Newcastle club.

This hardly inspire more confidence in Mike Ashley from the Newcastle faithful, who seems to have been a little brutal to the man who got the club immediately promoted last season with a record 102 points.

And we suppose even if you bring a club back to the Premier League in your very first season as manager and save the club owner around £100M, you don’t get the chance to be successful in the Premier League.

This is what the the surprise statement said today on the official site:

Newcastle United Football Club have today parted company with manager Chris Hughton. Goalkeeping coach Paul Barron also leaves the club today.

The board would like to place on record their thanks to Chris for his considerable efforts during the club’s transition from Championship to Premier League football. Chris has shown exceptional character and commitment since being appointed manager in October 2009. The club wishes him well for the future.

Regrettably the board now feels that an individual with more managerial experience is needed to take the club forward.

The task of appointing a new manager now begins. An announcement will be made shortly regarding transitional arrangements pending the appointment of a successor.

If the Board have sacked Chris today we have to think they already have a new manager lined up and that will now be the subject of intense speculation, but we would expect an announcement within 24 hours..

For heavens sake we have a game against Liverpool on Saturday and Newcastle are still 11th in the league, one place below the top half – but Chris’s performance in an up and down season seemingly just wasn’t good enough for the owner.

Who would have thought that a few weeks after beating Sunderland by 5-1 – the best result in 55 years, and then Arsenal 1-0 away in the following game, Hughton would be sacked.

We have to think that Chris will be in huge demand from some Championship club, who will be only too happy to offer him a position.

This will be a total shock to other Premier League managers, because Hughton has hardly deserved the sack – but we should have known after the Wigan game, that the rumors of Chris being dismissed if we had lost that game were in fact true.

The fact that thery wouldn’t odder him a new contract and delayed on that – now suggests they were waiting for a string of bad results – wehich some goddip papers had even suggested in mid Ocotber.

We are totally shocked by this news.

But before we finish this – we want to thank Chris Hughton for ther fabulous job he did at Newcastle, and we are so sorry this quiet gentleman has left the club – in such a way.

It’s hardly been done with any class.

Comments welcome.

Sorry Hughton mate – you deserved a far better club than we could be! one step forward and two steps back by the fatman yet again! Will still be Hughtons Barmy Army when we go up to birmingham on the 18th – regardless of who’s in charge!!

Just seen a comment on ssn from a young irish lad and he was on the money when talking of a replacement “who else is there out there that has done a better jon and (crucial bit) that would want to come to us given the state of the club”

The list does not look good! frank R – great but refer to above!!

It’s a terrible decision for starters and there are no half decent replacements

Pardew, Curbishley, Souness, Dowie, Shearer Brown, Maradonna,

The only decent manager is Martin O neill but why would he come to newcastle when he wants stability and ambition from the board?

On a lighter note Gazza is 100/1

Well thank you Chris, my prediction for CH in the next 6 months, West Ham relegated, AG sacked, CH appointed WHU manager, gets them promoted at first attempt, stabalises them in the prem in first season, within 3 years WHU playing in Euro cup.

    Feel so bad for Chrissy..

No compensation really because his contract was running out in the summer and he was the lowest paid manager in the premier league,

    Respect to you Chrissy… Legend!

What’s going on ? Mike Ashley is completely brain dead if he believes any other manager can come in this season and do any better than CH. Sad to say but Relegation plus a shed load of players wanting to leave is what faces us this season. Good call MA

    Disgrace.

He has a team of average players and then has 6 first-teamers out injured and so gets sacked.

I genuinely thought Ashley had turned a corner, but he hasn’t.

    THE MAN NEEDS SHOOTING!!!

The famous Newcastle United revert to form.
No time for manager, no stability at the club.
    Unless…
The fat man has sold up and the new owners dont want Hoots.
More to come on this maybe??

His tactic’s were below par at best. Humiliated by Bolton, defeats to Blackpool and West Brom.. Yes we beat chelsea, who are out of form at the moment, yet still outplayed us for the entire second half. Arsenal are bad at home. Sunderland being our only high point this season. After our performances you think ashley was prepared to offer him a better contract? Football is a business, he’s doing what he thinks is right. For me, it’s a good thing he has gone. No doubt he has done a fantastic job, what will make it right, is if we get o’neill. If not, i will be in a state of shock.

Not posted for years. My 6 reasons why this is a truely shocking decision:

    1. He got us promoted and we’re looking good for survival in the prem (main aim)
    2. He’s done it with minimal resource.
    3. We need stability (how many times have we said that) and he was providing it.
    4. He has supported the club, players and fans throughout his tenure.
    5. The fans and very importantly the players really rate him as a man and a manager
    6. He led us to a magnificent win against the Makems, amongst others.

I’m all at sea. Have they really sacked him?

Darryl, look at the realism of the situation, we have nobody to apoint as a caretaker in the interim, and we also had fantastic results against sides like Villa, Arse, and Mackems, with what is arguably one of the weakest squads in the league. CH had 6 of his first 11 out for the last result, and we have no depth in the squad whatsover. If you think CH was doing a bad job, then you are an idiot, and its idiots like you that have been calling for CH’s head that have led to this.

I cant believe it…. 4 weeks ago we beat sunderland and arsenal…. MA should have built a statue for him…not give him the sack!!!!

I cant believe the timing, just before christmas, the most important time of the year…no manager, no coaches no gk coach.

I hope that next Saturday wont be the repeat of Hull City home game two years ago, with the supporters getting on the back of MA.

I have a gut feeling that it’s Kinnear or Pardew next
