Alan Pardew has given his first interview with Newcastle United TV this afternoon.
Alan Pardew – longevity of contract was important to me
Alan looked confident as he answered the questions in the rather short piece that has been released, with a Newcastle United shirt hanging behind him, and it was probably given at the Benton Training grounds, where we hope he will take the training this afternoon.
Alan was asked his first reaction when he discovered you were being linked with this job:
“My first reaction was one of amazement because Newcastle is such a big club”
“When you look at the big clubs in the country you have to put Newcastle in there.”
“So is was a great opportunity for me.”
And was it an easy decision to say yes to the job:
“It was an easy decision to become manager of Newcastle because it’s such a privileged position, but you know there was a lot of things to talk about to make sure we got things right.”
“If I’m going to come here I want to do it the right way – I want to build a foundation here and longevity of contract is something that was important to me.”
“Hopefully I can bring Newcastle forward and up.”
There’s one thing that Alan is better than Chris at – and that is giving interviews, and he seems an interesting guy, who seems to be simply delighted that he’s been given this opportunity at one of England’s most famous football clubs.
We expect him top work his socks off the make Newcastle successful in what will be a huge challenge for the Wimbledon-born manager.
It’s hardly surprising that the longevity of the contract was important to Alan after Newcastle have had 13 managers in 13 years, and this is now the 6th manager under owner Mike Ashley, since he arrived at the club about 42 months ago.
We wish Alan all the best in a most difficult job.

Comment #7So basically he’s just confirmed that he pulled the strings with Mike and Derek, that his goals are the same as what Chris’s were and the only difference is that he’ll knock on the door and ask for transfer funds which will no doubt come at the expense of players.
However… if the first players off the books are James Perch and Alan Smith, he’ll go up in my estimations.

Comment #9Is it just me or does the banner look a bit negative now? Everybody looks pissed off (or in the case of Carroll, and somewhat King Arfa) glaring at Pardew.

Anyone else think Pardew seemed like he was still trying to understand how he’s got the Newcastle job the same as the rest of us?

Comment #16He’s a joker, but good luck to him. Have a feeling our season relies more upon Nolan, Barton, Smith and Harps than him though…

Your coverage of this has been so inconsistant it’s unreal.
I am taking a break from NUFC so farewell to the blog and all you great fans.
I really can’t be arsed with this debacle anymore, what’s the point in getting upset/angry about something that we will do nothing about as fans.
We will moan and resign ourselves to relegation, but that’s it.
I am sick of our club being the pantomine of English football.
The fact you have already replaced Chris with Pardew in the banner is an absolute shambles and total disrespect to a great man, you have accepted this and moved on without a fight Ed. You have this blog which is a position of power (it comes up on newsnow for a start) and you aren’t even fighting against the board as a voice for the fans.
Do you agree with whats going on and what’s happened?
Anyway, it’s all a load of b*******, see you all later, howay the Spartans

Comment #24@Moreno: What do you intend to do? Hope that Pardew gets the sack in favour of Chris? It isn’t going to happen mate, as much as it pains me to say it.
Such talent, now a bloody footnote.

Comment #25Am I the only one who was impressed by what he had to say. Everyone on this blog seems to be writing him off before he’s even been in the dugout. Most likely the people slating the long ball style we were becoming accustomed to seeing week in week out. This is a new manager with bright ideas for the youth and may actually have the balls to play them in a prem match instead of wasting them in carling cup matches etc. Still disappointed with the way CH left but good luck Pards

Completely agree. Ed Harrison works for the fat man. he always takes the club’s side and would never argue for the fat man to be outed. Everybody wants the fat man out but what has Harrison got to say about it. Silence and three points in the next game. Tow the party line Ed which is thanks Chris for a good job but lets move on and get behind Alan for the sake of the club. What is your take on the fat man Ed? Silence I suppose.

Comment #34Look at hi face in this photo. He has that wan smile and look of a guy, who has just gone to meet a pal, but ended up strolling into the ‘wrong’ local, but thinks “Shit I’m here now, better walk towards the bar and get a beer to save face, try and blend in.” All the while everyone knows he shouldn’t be there and are staring a thousand holes into his head. Should he make one slip-up (go 1-0 down early on saturday) the regular punters will be on him like a pack of blood hounds! GRRRRRR!

Comment #36Watching his interview on sky, where the hell was Llambias? (scared of the press questions no doubt). Clear he’ll have no money to spend unless he offloads some of the firstteam (almost guarenteed come Jan) and play the youngones. His remit – keep us hovering above relegation zone, buy cheap sell high.
Looking at his first 6 game stats flashing up on SSN, won 2 games outta 18!!!
Might be a nice guy but NOT what we want in a manager for newcastle. Will be gone by the end of the season, just can’t see him lasting

Comment #37I think everyone needs to give Pardew a chance and get behind the players! Ashley hasn’t got a clue…but the last thing the club needs is to go back into the championship! Just give the man a chance!
