There have been rumors in the press lately that Mike Ashley wants to sell Andy Carroll in January for around £20M.
Rickie Lambert – coming to Newcastle?
So the news that new boss Alan Pardew wants to bring in striker Rickie Lambert from his former club Southampton, has started to be a little bit worrying.
The Newcastle United club have called a press conference for this afternoon, and unless Newcastle jet somebody in from the Moon, then Alan Pardew is expected to be named as the new Newcastle manager.
Pardew apparently wasn’t good enough for League One club Southampton, who sacked him in August, but Mike Ashley thinks he’s the perfect next Newcastle manager – go figure.
There is a report this morning that the 49-year-old could bring in Rickie Lambert of Southampton.
But why do we need another striker?
From the results so fay this season it’s the defense that has let Newcastle down, and strengthening of the back four would seem to be a first priority with central midfield and wingers probably next on the list.
We have some top strikers in Carroll, Lovenkrands, Ameobi, Ranger, Best and Xisco and probably need to unload the last two in that list.
The 28-year-old signed for £1M from Bristol Rovers in 2009, but at 28 does that mean our policy of buying players 26 years old or under has gone own the drain.
The 6’2″ striker has 40 goals in 69 games for Southampton since joining them last year from Bristol Rovers, and at his former club he scored 59 goals in 155 appearances over four seasons.
Why we would need another striker is beyond us, unless of course Mike is going to cash in on the local hero in January.
