Andy Carroll has had charges dropped over claims that he attacked his 18 year-old former girlfriend, Laurie Henderson on Sunday, October 17th.
Andy Carroll – now no charges pending against him – great!
The 21 year-old Newcastle United striker was arrested and kept in jail overnight through the following Monday, after model Laurie Henderson had claimed he had assaulted her.
But last night a spokesman for the Crown Prosecution Service said this:
“We have decided there is no longer a realistic prospect of conviction.”
Sounds like there were too many Newcastle United fans involved for the prosecution. 😀
Or maybe, given the ridiculous actions of the Newcastle owner this week, there is a feeling of compassion that the club and its top striker need a break.
But in truth, this is not too surprising because it was always going to be a minor charge and was nowhere near as serious as his charge of assault and battery against another man in a Newcastle night club last December/
For that Andy was fined £1000 on October 25th, and also ordered to pay £2500 in compensation after admitting to assaulting the man.
Carroll was accused of grabbing his girlfriend’s hair, and then banging her head on a bathroom floor (ouch), and the striker appeared before the Hexham Magistrates’ Court in Northumberland charged with assault.
Andy was granted bail on condition he lived with club captain Kevin Nolan, but it now seems there is not much of a case against him and all charges have been dropped.
We think that’s good news, and it seems so long since we had some of that.
Andy – how about a couple of goals this afternoon to celebrate?
