Alan Pardew’s Vision For Newcastle United

Alan Pardew has come out today and talked about where he sees Newcastle going over the next (almost) six years, the length of his contract –  if he’s still on Tyneside by then – which is most unlikely.

Alan Pardew – Newcastle United manager 2010 – ?

This is what Alan said about what he sees as the future of Newcastle United:

“By 2016 I would see us certainly challenging the top seven positions.” “Hopefully producing players from within.”    “I would like them to be local lads as well – there is nothing better in a city than having players coming through.”

“I don’t think there have been too many recently and it would be nice to increase that.”  “I saw Barcelona had eight local players in their first team recently – why can’t we?”

“I am not going to compare Newcastle to Barcelona, but Newcastle is a big club.”  “I feel in the short-term I need to look to stabilize and then maybe in the summer look at foundations to go forward.”

Given Newcastle are now in 8th place in the Premier League, we would very much hope we’d be challenging for the top 7 positions in six years time – come on Alan!

There’s no doubt that Alan Pardew had eagerly bought into the vision of Newcastle owner Mike Ashley – which is based very much on the success Arsenal have had since Arsene Wenger took over at the Gunners back in 1996.

But so did Chris Hughton of course, and he was hardly any problem for the owner, and had amazing success in a very short 16 months – but that didn’t help him when push came to shove by the owner this week.

We have no idea why Chris was sacked, other than it was nothing to do with the club’s official reason that they wanted a more experienced manage in the Premier League.

But we do wish Alan the very best of luck, because hell need it – but he’s got off to a much better start than anybody expected,  by coming across as really passionate for the Newcastle club in the few days he has been on Tyneside.

And the news is that he’s already done considerable homework in making sure he knows all about the great Newcastle United history – that’s good.

Howay The Lads!!

There’s nothing great about our history since 1955, where are you living, Ed? We’ve been pathetic for the most part, and the Fairs Cup in ’69 was the very least a team with our support could have expected.

Look at Liverpool and Man U before throwing the term ‘great’ around. Cause we aren’t.

5 years of Pardew is hard to believe. Especially with that fat twat as manager. Chris Hughton’s sacking has been doing the rounds in my head these days and I still can’t make any sense of it. The court is still out for Pardew in my books. If we beat the mid table teams after yesterdays great result then he will ease my fears. Under Chris we were struggling to get Premier League consistency and if Pardew can add that to this great club then we will do pretty well and he’ll get my support. I just hope he knows who his best players are quickly and protects them in the transfer window. Also I really hope Pardew has an eye for talent be it local or foreign because that was something Hughton was very good at. Ed I still want to know where you got that info that Chief Scout Graham Carr was responsible for our best piece of business under Hoots, as I for one don’t believe it.

So in just 6 short years we will be challenging for 7th place! Wow an entire 1 place higher up the league than where we are now. And how does he plan to pull of this massive revolution of club fortunes in such a fleetingly short period of time!?!?

i no 1 man doesnt make a team but i believe if ben arfa had played in a few of the games he’s missed which weve lost or drew like wigan/stoke/blackburn/chelsea/west brom.. i do actually believe we would of been better off possibly 3 points in all them games just because his creativity is something to behold other teams are scared of someone like tht hence why man city set out and succeeded in getting him out of the game early on..i dont think he could of helped much at bolton simply because we got smashed 5-1 and really missed tiote/barton/nolan then but well i can only think of what might have happened, even if we had of won all them and still got beat off west brom a still believe hoots was for the chop bless him, doesnt seem to me like he had any backing atall, also has anyone else heard about the supposed real reason why Paul Barron was sacked/left? he is supposed to have planted a headbutt on Llambias ha nice 1 Paul

Chris Houghton did a good job getting us up again, but even Ed would have got us up, as the other teams were simply hopeless 🙂

This season he did ok. Getting fantastic results against the socalled better teams, but at the same time loosing badly against lower teams. He is no messiah so stop whining.

The most important thing for a manager is having good talented players with a hard work-ethic.

Pardew is in now and everybody must support him. I hope that Perch, Tayls, Smith, Best and Lovenkrants are shipped out as the clearly lack the quality needed to mix it in the middlepack of the PL. We should get Donovan in for nowt and Weater for nearly nowt. Gosling and Ben Arfa will return and we’re good to go

    – I think the stuff about Carr being responsible for Tiote and Ben Arfa came from the leaked report of Llambias’ clear-the-air shouting match with the players. But then again, he is the scout, so who do you expect would find these players? Its his job.
As for signing them, I’d be surprised if Hoots didn’t give the go-ahead, but if not, it only means that My Cashley and Llambiarse have reinstigated the discredited ‘buying over the manager’s head’ policy which was supposed to be abandoned after Keegangate.

On the thread topic, it is a bold attempt at talking down expectations but if Pardew hasn’t got us better than 7th within the next 5 years, there is no way he’ll still be here to find out what happens next.

again chris hughton is mentioned in an article about alan pardew. hughtons gone, deal with it, move on. And why does this article make a mockery of what pardew said about us challenging for top 7 places in 6 years… he means for us as a club to be doing it on a consistent basis.. im behind pardew fully

I thought Ashley wanted someone with ambition. I cant say I’m too impressed challenging for top 7 in 5 years time. I expect us to be in the top 7 and CHALLENGING for Champions League!

    Come on Alan -_-

Realise Pardew doesn`t want to place pressure on himself too early and wants to underpromise and overdeliver, but this is his first gaffe playing straight into the hands of the doubters. Probably better if he had just said nothing.

i WANT us to be challening for champions league .. but dont people realise that the days of going out and buying a team of players who can transform a team from mid table to top table in a season are gone THEY ARE GONE … so we need do it another way, and that is with a longer term plan based upon producing top players to achieve what we want without needing the cash … Pardew is very sensibly mentioning top 7 which is realistic rather than the typical overambitious unrealistic targets like champions of Europe which gets managers sacked .. of course we want that in the end but lets be realistic give it time and over achieve by making 6th place instead of underachieving by not coming 2nd …

Expect Chelsea to be making a bid for AC in January. With Drogba ageing and Anelka not a huge threat they’re striking options are short. Also Drogba’s head is all over the place atm. I can see this being the first proper test that AP will face. On another note Stuart Holden would be a great addition to the squad, and with Bolton in financial crisis we may get him under market value

great performance by the lads yesterday, was so proud to see them keep there heads when liverpool scored, AC was outstanding, but seeing Nile Ranger come on and frighten the life out of there defence was great,
a great reaction from the players!! lets build on it for the next game which will be a very tough away game!

If any of you watched the game on the tube yesterday, you certainly see that MA does not look like a guy trying to sell his club. So I’d advise getting used to “buying over the managers head” because that is how most of the good teams now do it. The manager has input, the manager can make suggestions, but his job is to make the game strategy, and have the coach prepare for the next match.
