Landon Donovan Offered To Newcastle

Surprising but good news in the Sunday Sun today that Alan Pardew could be given some transfer funds in January to improve the Newcastle squad.

Landon Donovan – is he arriving in January?

If the news today is true than Steven Taylor will be offloaded in January and maybe Newcastle could get £5M for him 0 if that.

Southampton striker Rickie Lambert is a possibility, and of course Lambert is at Pardew’s former club Southampton, and presumably he wouldn’t cost too much. Maybe the idea is to bring in Rickie to give some goal scoring help to Andy Carroll up front.

But the surprising  news is that the Sunday Sun reports that Newcastle have been offered USA International Landon Donovan, who is available for a loan deal, and if Everton do not take him, it’s looking like Newcastle could.

Alan Pardew is said to be interested in bringing Landon to Tyneside,

That would be an excellent move by the club, because Landon is not only a good player, but it will put Newcastle on the map, and give them some good publicity, at least in the USA, where all the PL games can be seen, usually live,  these days.

Landon will also provide some skill and creativity that the team has lacked since Ben Arfa broke his leg in early October.

The 5’8″ tall Landon has played 275 times in the MLS with 131 goals, and has represented the USA 128 times (a record) with 45 goals.

Landon is one of the USA’s best ever players, certainly in the outfield, since the USA has had some excellent goalkeepers.

Comments welcome.

I’d take Donovan in a heartbeat. he’d be a great foil for Carroll.

Would love to see it happen but its a Sunday so I’ll not get too excited just yet.

Ranger is looking better all the time but he still needs to be introduced gradually, getting more and more minutes on the pitch.

For now Donovan would make a great pairing with Carroll and Ranger can keep learning with his super-sub appearances.

There’d be nowt worse than to start Ranger every game for a while and watch his confidence dip because he wasn’t scoring enough in his own mind.

Patience is key for him but his raw talent is there for all to see.

In a couple of years I reckon Ranger and Carroll will be scaring the crap out of most premier league team week in, week out.

Doner van’s okay, but I agree that we should be giving Ranger more opportunities. With Shola crocked again,I’m thinking now’s the time to get the lad up front. Regarding Jonas, I think he’s worth keeping. I thought Enrique looked more out of sorts yesterday, but the two of them still managed a couple of good moves down the left. There’ll be more competition there next month, when HBA comes back.

Transfer Tony, six players out??? doubt that. Only players I could see leaving are Saylor (Unhappy with wages) and Lovenkrands (Unhappy with lack of first team football). The rest will stay till the summer. As for incomings, I think Donavon on loan would be excellent. But permanent wise, after buying HBA I doubt we will have the funds to buy anyone else.

    Hopefully we’ll sell

    5 Million for Steven Taylor
(Liverpool want him so they might even overpay)

    3 Million For Danny Guthrie
(People will think of him as a young player still and might want him for the future

    3 Million for Peter Lovenkrands
(had a good season last season & already scored twice in five appearences this season so a team like everton who don’t have alot of money to spend atm might see him as a good signing)

    5 Million for Alan Smith
(isn’t worth it but considering he is considered as a big name some clubs might see him as a useful player)

    7 Million for Jonas Gutierrez
(Athletico Madrid are rumoured to be looking to sign him for 7 Million so i would hope that deal goes through even with the good relation with jose Enrique)

Players i hope we could sign

Hatem Ben Arfa ( Marseille) Sign for 8 Million

David Weater (Smoggies) sign for 2 Million

Landon Donovan (LA Galaxy) Sign on Loan

Then use the 13 Million the find decent African or American players who would add that extra spice to the team like Chiek Tiote

Just want to say, although HBA isn’t supposed to be back until March, Ed ran a thread a few weeks ago saying he might be back at the end of January as his recovery is going better than expected.

I can’t be bothered to find the thread though.

Also, I really hope we get HBA in permanently and ship out Tayler, hes never lived up to his potential and thinks he’s bigger than the club, we don’t need players like that.

Although we will need a replacement as Sol is looking shakey as hell so far.

I’d love to agree with you but this season Jonas has lost it abit like.

He has never been able to cross the ball but in the past I’ve accepted that because he would run at players and cause havoc, unfortunately this season he just hasnt done that.

If we could get £7m for him, which is unlikely unfortunately, I would sell him and bring in one or two players with the funds.

This would be a great move, as Donovan is THE best player America has produced, and fills a need. But it smells more like rampant speculation.

Not sure I understand the Jonas hate here.

Also, why not start Lovenkrands now (filling in with Ranger later in the match)?

Donovan and Wheater errrm ! rather have that good young attacking right wing back Coleman from Everton and a decent right wing come utility midfielder Kranjcar from Spurs.
That and for Chr**t sakes give Taylor a contract, the overall price would be the same as getting Wheater who is not as good.
Sure Donovan would help, but we really are in need of a consistent right winger.
As for the idiots advocating selling Jonas, perhaps you did`nt notice how all our breakouts come from the left side, with that established understanding between Enrique and Jonas.
Which is why i believe Krancar and Coleman could form something similar on the right, balancing the side.
As Simpson and Routledge are no more than decent bench fill- ins, who lack consistency.

With Gosling and Ben Arfa available, it`s time Pardew if he has any sense will take a good look at the present playing staff , unloading some of the lumber and strengthening where needed.
Also take a look at the youth system to evaluate who can make a break through.
However, the statement about a local team is nonsense, there`s hardly enough Geordies in the entire EPL to form a complete side.
And if you look at most EPL teams, theres hardly a majority of home grown players, being to days clubs recruit on a worldwide basis.
So Pardew was just playing to the crowd, trying to get a bit of support, lets take a wait and see tude before we run him outta toon !

Gutierrez has to be replaced I am afraid. Hatem Ben Arfa should do that and we can have Gutierrez as back up. HBA should be signed at all costs the kid is a star in the making a huge talent. Gutierrez sadly hasn’t lived up to his potential and his control of the ball is atrocious. He can never keep possession. Even Routledge seems to be more effective. Donovan would be a perfect replacement to Gutierrez.

Ranger was incredible against Liverpool and impressed me with his pace and power. If you’re good enough you’re old enough and I wouldn’t hesitate to put him alongside Carroll for our next match and possibly the remainder of the season. Ameobi is useless and although he did surprise me recently with freak goals and great form I knew it would be temporary as he always flatters to deceive.

Outs: Ameobi, Sol end of season if he doesn’t improve, Gutierrez, Smith and Xisco because I think he’s lost hope just like I have on the kid.

In: Hatem Ben Arfa, Donavan, DCM, CB and maybe a young striker like Derdyiek or whatever his name was (remember the guy we were linked with i think it was that scored against England and was very good).

If we do that then we’ll be all prepared for a crack at the top 10 after this years EPL survival.

We shouldn’t sell Jonas! He is one of our best players Toonarmy21. If there is a player who has high work rate and always give 100 %, then it is Jonas Gutierrez. He is a constant threat with his pace and technique, and yes he doesn’t seem to find the final ball, BUT we should allow him to cut inside even more often, leaving space for Enrique to cross from the deep. And all these bizarre valuations? Alan Smith £5.000.000?? Haha, what are you smoking? The only player leaving in January is S. Taylor. Perhaps for around £4.000.000. Nile Ranger should not be playing regularly yet, he works wonders when he comes off the bench, I don’t think Ameobi is that bad. He is not world class, and he has played hundreds of bad games in earlier seasons, but this season I think he has proved his worth to the team. He can hold up the ball, yeah he had a bad game against Liverpool, but he needs confidence, let’s not change the striking partnership now, I think the Ameobi Carroll combination can be hot this year. I don’t rate Ameobi that highly as it may sound, but we should look to sign a striker next summer, not in mid-season. Give Ameobi and Ranger the spot, and make them compete for the place, Ameobi is currently a better finisher, Ranger is more of a threat with pace and the ability to change a match where we are struggling to make chances. I think Ranger will make a hell of a good player next season, if we continue to give him half-an-hour or so, in each match, then he can blend into the starting eleven when the time is right. Not now.

I see a lot of posts with Donovan upfront. I think Donovan would fit better into right wing for the Toon, thus allowing Barton to move back into the engine room. Like this:
    Simpson – Willy – Colo – Enrique
    Donovan-Barton-Tiote-Ben Arfa
    Nolan playing upfront off Carroll.

if the toon has a shot at landing L.D.(landon donovan) even on loaan we need to get him. He is a great player very creative, can score goals either foot but more than anything his service is second to none. Imagine both barton and LD serving for big andy…lethal…

as for jonas he has had a bad run of form but before the last 3 games he had looked the best player on the pitch most of the matches. He will snap out of it…easy lads, i knoiw everybody is testy because of the fat bastard but lets stay with our troops. the players need us!!!!

Thank god not every Newcastle fan is so unrealistic to think we can start off loading first teamers (Jonas).

It must be because we have a really good wage structure that will allow us to bring in the most talented players. Or because we have a wealth of left wingers in the squad. Or is it because we will have millions upon millions to spend in a January transfer Window when there are not to many players available. Or is it because we are a very stable club we will have star players banging the door down to work under Pardew. Or maybe because………..I could go on

Go and play Football Manager 2011, as delusional and dangerous supporters like you will see us down before too long.

Jonas isn’t a complete player, but he creates opportunities more than anyone in the midfield (except the injured Ben Arfa).

Donovan on the wing is better than as a pure striker. But his best role has always been in a middle advanced position where he can get the ball and run with it, or feed a striker upfront (carroll). That being said, I doubt he’s coming.

Alan Smith is the worst player on this side, and has been since his arrival. Please send him on a free.

Ameobi is a longtime favorite of mine. I don’t think you’ll get anything selling him, and he’s a local boy, no? He’s fine as a 3rd or 4th striker for a side like Newcastle. Depth upfront isn’t the worst thing.
