With the news today that Steven Taylor will be leaving Newcastle, and we suppose that will now be in January, what’s the chances of Newcastle going after David Wheater of Middlesbrough in January?
David Wheater – moving to Newcastle?
David was born in Redcar and he’s played in the Premier League and always looked more than a decent player, and since his contract runs out next summer Newcastle could probably get David, sell Steven Taylor, and make a profit of a few million too.
A week or so ago Chris Hughton said there was no truth in the Wheater rumor, but it seems clear that Alan Pardew will bring a few players into the squad in January – that seems to be clear from what Alan’s being saying in his press conferences this week.
The 23 year-old 6’5″ David is over a year younger than Steven, and the only club he’s ever been at is Middlesbrough, although he has played on loan at Doncaster Rovers, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Darlington hen he was younger.
25 year-old 6’2″ Curtis Davies of Aston Villa is another possibility, and he is currently on loan at Leicester City.
But Curtis may be a bit expensive, and he always seem to have a lot of injuries too, but he was a former Newcastle target a few years back.
In July of 2008 he signed a four year deal at Aston Villa for £8M from West Brom, so we suppose Aston Villa would try to recuperate as much of that fee as possible, and therefor he may be too expensive for Newcastle.
Comments welcome.

Comment #4That face just proves everything about inbreeding in smoggyland !
No good enough as someone said before. He’s a half witted clogger, no class, no style. Curtis davies may be a better shout although I’d like to see Kadar get his chance.
We are not really a championship squad in any shape or form.
Colo, Guti, Barton, Carroll, Tiote, Krul , Nolan etc should be top half easily. We do have some really good players and should never have been relegated in the first place.

Comment #5There are plenty of other CB’s that we can look at getting, thats if Saylor is actually leaving, yet against Ed, you’re jumping the gun, we don’t know how true the story is in the Sunday Sun & as it’s still a few weeks away from the Jan transfer window, Saylor could still sign his new offer & none of this will happen!!

ED – Have you seen the formal transfer request?
Has this been confirmed by the club, or just the Sunday Sun?
I think we are getting a little ahead of ourselves here.

Comment #7I think that Steven Taylor is overrated and always has. Get him out, it would be a fantastic thing if we even get money for him. Sol Campbell is so much better than Tayls, but unfurtunaly the years are taking their toll on the Giant, and he cannot continue more than this season. It would be smart to add him to the coaching staff, defensively. David Weater is solid. Get him in for nowt.

Comment #8archae – the club announced he was transfer listed months ago. Not heard anything to the contrary since, except this.
Sign or do one I say.

Comment #10How can we make a few million profit? Taylor will go for about 2 million according to the sunday beano. So unless we get Wheater for nothing cannot see us making money.

Comment #11@Lew, Sir, I withdraw my comment unreservedly.
However, I am always suspicious of such reports in our local media which seems to work hard to destabilise the club.
I remember they could not mention “Obafemi Martins” without “fancied by Arson Wenger” or similar.
