Pardew Tries For Leicester City’s Powell – No Go

1:37 pm, Tuesday, December 14th, 2010 by Ed Harrison · 16 Comments

BBC Radio Leicester is reporting today that Leicester City have  rejected an approach by new Newcastle manager Alan Pardew for first-team coach Chris Powell.

Chris Powell - while a player at Leicester

Apparently Alan Pardew knows the former England defender, because  Chris played for Pardew at Charlton Athletic from 1998 though 2004, and Chris played 217 times with a couple of goals.

The 41-year-old ended up his playing days at Leicester City from 2008 though this year, and was recently their caretaker manager before former England manager Sven Eriksson arrived a few weeks ago.

In his 23 year playing career, Chris played a total of 751 first class games with 9 goals from 1987 until this year.

It appears that Alan Pardew is keen to complete his coaching staff at Newcastle asap and said this morning he had 5 possibilities.

Well, that’s probably down to 4 possibilities right now, but we wouldn’t be surprised if Alan announces the new Assistant manger at Newcastle United within 24 hours.

Comments welcome.

    @Lewisnufc
    Where did that come from?
    Not convinced.
    Yesterday, we learnt on this blog he was off to Spurs with Jose for £26 mil.
    He has such an exciting life on this blog.

    The Football Association intends to remind Joey Barton ‘of his responsibilities’ but will not be taking any action against him.

    Damn. Powell is a very respected and talented coach over there. Why can’t we just go on and sign him for a small fee like always is possible on Football Manager?

    Pardew seems to be playing a shrewd hand in the way he’s handling the backroom appointments….. no wholesale comings and no goings.

    He appears to be keeping everybody happy and feels he can trust Steve Stone sufficiently to be his buffer and work with the first team.

    However, the proof of the pudding etc
