This Is Definitely Newcastle Side For Saturday – Maybe

Alan Pardew will have both Fab Coloccini and Mike Williamson back for the game at Birmingham on Saturday.

Mike Williamson – back with Coloccini this Saturday?

And one weakness in the last two games for Newcastle has been the central defense, with one comical goal being conceded in each of those games.

We’ve been really surprised how poor Sol Campbell has played, and he’s made two bad mistakes that have led to opposition goals in the last two games, and we hardly expect him to keep his place on Saturday.

And then there’s Steven Taylor – and if the local lad is going to be leaving the club, we hardly think he should be playing when other long term players are available – unless they want to put Steven in the shop window.

And there’s also goalkeeper Steve Harper back, and apparently he has had a second practice game yesterday – so that’s two he’s played in since returning to training last week.

This is the defense we would play next Saturday,  in what is shaping up to be an important game at Birmingham, if only  because  another 3 points from that game- which is surely possible – we’ll be really flying.

Krul
Simpson Coloccini Williamson Enrique

That assumes that Steven Taylor is not going to sign his new contract, although we really know nothing definite about that yet – since nothing has been announced by the Newcastle club.

And the rest of the team almost picks itself

Barton Nolan Tiote Gutierrez
Carroll Ranger

Nile Ranger looked great in those last 35 minutes on Saturday and his introduction helped to turn the game in Newcastle’s favor, so he may well have earned a starting position alongside big Andy at St. Andrews – and it seems he could (should?)  be given a chance.

That’s only our opinion of course of the side for Saturday, so let’s  know what team you would play on Saturday at St. Andrews.

Comments welcome.

Can’t wait to see Gosling in that mixer for the squad and hopefully Ben Arfa. If we managed to keep hold of him I’d personally slot him behind AC and drop Ranger to the bench and leave Gosling to challenge for a shirt in the middle. It would be like two brand new signings and add that extra bit of depth to the squad!!

I would put in Campbell and Willaimson on Saturday!! Colo looked evry suspect again against bolton, and therefore for me not the form player.

I would bring Young Ranger on from the Bench and play Carrol up front on his own, and either routledge or Raylor in right midfield!! 4-5-1. If this doesnt work, then Ranger comes OFF the bench again for Routledge or Raylor and JB back out to right midfield.

    But thats me!!

I’d make three changes from the team that started against Liverpool and it would be exactly the same as the one Ed has suggested………bringing in Coloccini and Williamson as well as Ranger alongside Carroll. I’ts not an easy game – although it’s one we can win I’d take a point for sure as at Home B’ham are pretty solid!

Raylor was not a good signing, let’s face it. He helped us go down. He should be sold, he’s a utility player at best. If Taylor signs it’s good news because we need a solid backup. Poor Campbell is not his old self but I’d keep him as well. Silly mistakes yes, but he also made some decisive stops. Ranger: I wasn’t a fan, but now I am! He terrorised their defense with his pace and directness. Loven? Wish I could say he’s premiership material, seems a nice bloke. But he ain’t. What’s the deal with Best? Still injured? Most of u criticise him, but he has hardly been given a chance, unlike Shola… As for Shola, what can I say? Leicester or Preston maybe? Please? Finally, Alan, do not play Birmingham like we played WBA! Play two forwards (Rangr, AC). Anyway, they both have the youth, legs and desire to help midfield.

If Enrique really does read this blog, Jose, you are the best left back we’ve probably ever had at Newcastle, please, please, please stay with us – and tell Ranger if he continues to play like he did against Liverpool then he can wear whatever boxers he likes.

RTaylor is out for another couple of months. Campbell broke his leg in training about a month ago.

He could have been a decent buy, but in the few runs he got, he was played in different positions. Not really fair on the lad to say he isn’t good enough.

The squad does pretty much pick itself for Saturday. I sincerely hope the new manager will be taking advantage of the availability of Colo and Willo. Colo may well have looked out of sorts against Bolton, but that was three matches ago. He’s probably desperate to get on the pitch now.

I’m thinking that if Ameobi probably won’t start, as he is injured. Ranger or Lovenkrands will be fine to play up with big Andy.

Looks as if Our Joey will be dealing with Ed’s favourite, Seb Larssen, for the match too!!

    Wonder how that’ll work out.

    Edd Case:

Agree with you on Guthrie. It is sad but true.

As for the lineup: We seem to have forgotten what a gem we have in S.Taylor. The man is truly a beast of a CB. For a CB that young he has ALOT of experience. Shame if we sell him.. no doubt about that. He will go on and have a glorious career if he stays injury free.

However I agree we should not make him a starter if he is leaving anyways… good backup for the timebeing then.

Davies, not sure the team picks itself, u even doubt it from what I see. For me, Routledge has done little wrong (in fact unlucky not to score against Chelsea). There’s the headache at goal (Harps knocking on Alan’s door), then there are 4 central defenders who’ll want to play, and then up front, Ranger will (justifiably) expect to be ahead of Loven.

Who to play in the CB roles ?
    No brainer Taylor and Collo.
C`mon tightwad give the guy a contract, he`s our best and future CD.
As for Gosling, when we signed Tiote, he may have seen the writing on the wall, unless he can play other than DM.
But in to-days game each player needs a backup and he will get time, especially as Tiote is prone to collecting cards.
Hope Pardew gets a decent defensive coach, perhaps he can get Williamson to pass to one of our guys not the opposition.
And dont worry about Saul, the man`s a pro. and were lucky to have him.
You guys forget that little French guy Bernard a not too shabby LB, talking bout Enrique mentioned as best ever LB, actually best ever was Alf McMichael (who ?)
Yo Pardew ! how bout bringing in a decent right winger and a RB who can bomb down the wing ,
hint Coleman @ Everton & Larrson @ Brum. gonna be a free agent (Ashleys favorite players)

    Starting next season

    ***********Krul***********
    Coleman*Taylor*Colo*Enrique
    ************Tiote************
    Larrson*****Joey *****Jonas
    *******Ben Arfa***********
    ***********Carroll**********
Both Larrson & Jonas can defend allowing both wing backs to attack and no better pair in that role.
We can have Gosling to back up Tiote and platoon Nolan with Joey or BA.
Young ferguson can back up El Toro and Simpson Coleman.
There`s got to be some playing time for Kadar and Ranger .
Williamson can platoon with Colo or Taylor .
    Routledge for Larrson.
Still a few quality players from a competitive side, but getting there.

As much as I love Guti, he needs to be replaced by routledge or loven. Guti has gotten comfortable with his starting position and is getting lazy. He needs to ride the bench for a bit to wake him up again. Every time that has happened he’s come back better.

Ranger won’t start (although i would love him to start) he will be an Impact Sub for Shola after he has run around and got nackered, so probs after 20 mins then :p but he will do the same he did last week it changed the game when Ranger came on but can that happen if he starts? he has the scoring talent under his belt with soooooo many youth and reserve goals in the last few years so i have no worries there and no worries over his workrate for the team i just hope he can shelve Ameobi off the 11 because he only did well in Cup in league Shola hasnt done too much give Nile a chance atleast this week if Shola is still having injury problems.

Angry man: sol over colo? ok mate. dunno if you watched the last few games, I wouldnt have him on ever again Id be lookin for a new cb. Yeah he used to be good but every time ive seen him since comin to the toon, even for the reserves.. pants.

anyone who thinks that really is Jose, fair enuff but Im not sure like. I just dont think that a player would publicly criticise one of their team mates…. unless hes jokin i suppose…… ugh not sure.

I agree with the team pickin itself apart from Saylor and willo….. not sure who I’d choose. Saylor’s bin aal reet to be fair and willo can be a bit rash sometimes making, shall we say, bum twitchy decisions.

I can confirm that I am not Jose Enrique.
Alas, I am just another humble fan.
I can confirm though, that I was definitely kissing Jose’s ass, not literally speaking of course.
Nothing wrong with telling someone they’re good, if they are and I meant what I said, he’s the best left back I can remember us ever having to be honest.
I can just about remember seeing old Kenny Wharton and of course Bezza for years but Jose’s by far been the most consistant.

Speaking of left backs, anyone remember Pistone? aka ‘The new Maldini’ LOL.

I’m not sure about Saylor and Willo for Saturday. Willo has shown nice passing following getting on the ball. I’m not sure if Saylor has that, or if he was deputized to keep close to big Sol and leave the passing to someone else. Willo adds more height on corner kicks, but Saylor adds more muscle. So it will be interesting to see who AP puts out there. But one thing for sure, Colo is back in the line-up, IMHO.
