Are Newcastle Really Interested In Waigo – Maybe

There is news today, which may or may not be true, that Birmingham and Newcastle are after former Southampton loan player Papa Waigo, and would like to sign the player in January, at least according to reports in Italy.

Papa Waigo – while at Southampton last season

We should expect any player Alan Pardew has been associated with – ever – to be interesting Newcastle from now until the end of the January transfer window – now that Alan is the manager on Tyneside. 😀

Waigo, full name – Papa Waigo N’Diaye – can play on the wing or up front as a striker, and has played 15 times for Senegal, his country of birth, and while on loan at Southampton last season, played 35 times with 5 goals, while Pardew was managing the club.

It may be that Alan thinks the player could do a job at Newcastle, and if that is the case, the story may even have some truth in it – but this also has all the elements of a made-up story.

Waigo himself is said to want  to play in the Premier League in England, (who doesn’t?), but we haven’t seen the player, and therefore have no idea what he’s like but we’ll check our sources in Southampton.

However well he did at Southampton, that was in League One, England’s third tier,  and the Premier League is a totally different  proposition, as most players find out.

Italian clubs Ascoli (Serie B) and Chievo (Serie A) are also said to be interested in signing the 26-year-old in January.

The 6’1″ tall Waigo has previously played at Verona, Cesena, Genoa, Fiorentina, Lecce (loan) and for Southampton on loan last season, so if Pardew is really interested in the lad, we’d  think he’d be in the drivers seat to get him.

In any case, who would want to play for Birmingham when they could play for Newcastle United?

Yes – that may be a slightly biased opinion – OK – sorry Birmingham fans – just kidding.

We have no idea whether this player would improve Newcastle’s striking options in January, so if   there are any readers who have seen this player at Southampton, maybe they can add a comment on how good he is.

Comments welcome.

I hope Pardew can see the quality we already have in the squad + Gosling + HBA.

These championship signings won’t work when the team you are trying to improve is 8th in the Premiership.

Hope Pardew realises that before he wastes valuable transfer cash on possibilities from the past he’s come across in the lower leagues.

Only championship player I think could improve us is Lucciano Becchio, and wouldn`t cost the earth as his contract is up for renewal at the end of the season. Pards must be aware of him.

What a shitty statistic. Ok, so we have little money, but why buy players who we know are shit? Come on scouts give us someone who at least may turn out to be quality. Rubbish rubbish rubbish. The same goes for Lambert.

We need someone at least on loan until the end of the season who can push Jonas for a place on either wing. Arfa wont be back till the back end of the season so a loan signing at least is a must.Dont know this guy but we need somebody to push Jonas asap as he’s looking as if hes lost all interest

To be fair can’t see this one happening.. Pardew may be a lot of things but I reckon he could be a shrewd tactician in the transfer market and besides that even if we did sign him we can’t judge a player til he has pulled on the shirt and been given a fair crack at the whip!!

I’d dump ice water on any rumor about a Southampton player being linked with NUFC. The Magpies are searching the world, not the lower divisions, looking for young talent. It is up to the scouts to find the bodies & for AP to put them to use once they are up to it.

Revisiting you past is an ego thing …

Hope Pardew doesn’t need to go there to play games with Southampton.

I believe our squad is so good we may only need to pay serious cash for two pacey mid-fielders.
The replacements for Jonas & Routledge and a back up for HBA.

The back four Simpson Colo Willo Enrique are good.

    Carroll & Ameobi/Ranger too.

    Tiote & Barton are solid.

The weakness is with the attacking mid-fielders.
Jonas runs a lot. Hardly ever scores and doesn’t deliver too many assists.

HBA did the biz for a couple of games. Before he was attacked by De Jong.

HBA is pace plus a threat. Jonas just runs until he get tackled.

    We need one more HBA.
Neither Routledge or Jonas cut it.

    Joey does. HBA does.

Pay the cash out for pace in the wings.
So HBA, Joey plus another winger.
Joey’s important so we need to renegotiate with him on a five and a half year contract too.
Can’t wait to see HBA & Barton crossing from both wings onto Carroll’s head.
Add Nile to this team and it is beginning to look really balanced and exciting.

Jonas is solid.. He’s hardly ever out of position. How come some morons on here dont get it? He holds the ball long enough for the rest of our team to get up there.. If you have a trained eye for football you see this. Pity we cant all be blessed with that

there’s actually a pile of belgian kids that we should look at:

    alex witsel
    stephen defour
    eden hazard(prob too expensive)
    lukaku(prob too expensive)
thorgan hazard(eden hazards 15yr old bro supposed to be better than eden)
    jonathan legear

and there is a pile of good defenders there too

Today I read an article in daily mail, and it said that the Portuguese defender Jose Font of Southampton will be our first signature in exchange for 1.5 million euros.
as a diagonal, the truth and who is not really hope they do not sign, now if it is signed I hope can contribute much.
instead of wasting money on players who do not know, buying promising young players will give you some examples.

Robert Lewandowski (striker, 22 years old, Polish, it would be difficult to sign, pay 6 million euros).

pavel Mamayev (midfielder 22, Russia, 5.5 million euros)

?ukasz Piszczek (striker 25, Poland, 3 million euros)

Tomas Necid (striker, 21 years old Czech Republic, 6.5 million euros)

Yoan Gouffran (winger, French 24, 6 million euros)

Rasmus Jonsson (striker, Swedish 20 years of age, 2 million euros)

tomasz brandowski (midfielder, 26, 1 million euros).

all you can sign them perhaps at a lower price

We were linked with Jonathan Legaer earlier.

We need a winger desperately and maybe a striker. The rest is fine until the end of the season unless a good RB comes on the market for cheap.

The reason why people criticize jonas is because he never scores goals or creates goals and every time he gets the ball he does nothing creative but on the other hand he does defends well.

question – is your left winger in the the team to defend well? answer = no, he is there to create and score goals at the end of the day goals wins games and winning games means staying up.
