A little surprising news today that Alan Pardew is still hopeful of recruiting Leicester City’s top rated coach Chris Powell.
Chris Powell – still in the running for Newcatsle coaching position
We had heard yesterday that although Chris Powell was a target, his club Leicester City had turned down the approach from Newcastle.
It appears that an approach for Fulham’s Ray Lewington was ruled out, and we don’t know what the reason is for that, but it would appear that Chris is now Alan’s number one target to complete his first team coaching staff of three..
41 year-old Chris Powell is highly rated in coaching circles – and he is fairly new to full time coaching, having just hung up his playing boots this year.
It seems that a good offer has been made to Chris, and the Lambeth-born former full back is considering whether to move up to the north east – and we expect that decision will come quite quickly.
Of course Leicester manager Sven-Göran Eriksson still wants him at Leicester, and that’s not surprising and it seems that Chris is not too sure of the stability of things at Newcastle.
Why would he ever be thinking that? 😀
He would be an excellent acquisition by Pardew, and maybe a long term contract would give Chris a little more stability at Newcastle, but we can understand why he may be a little hesitant.
And it seems that Alan will spread the coaching responsibilities across the board with Steve Stone, Andy Woodman the goalkeeping coach, and hopefully Chris Powell making up the coaching staff.
Willie Donachie will be the development coach and presumably work with Peter Beardsley in bringing the youngsters through at the club – a very important role at Newcastle as we keep saying.
We hope Chris joins.
Comments very welcome.
Note – I still have no DSL connection at home which is why I’ve been offline a while.
I’m in a Starbucks – 5:20 am – and the AT&T experience has been a complete disaster and it appears their network in Wake Forest is all screwed up – they even had me buy a new modem yesterday.
But the same problem was still there and I was on help desk for about three hours yesterday – and it’s still down. I just wanted to give AT&T credit for his. 😀
The Time Warner people should have their Road Runner installed by 1pm today US EDT.
