Sky Sports is reporting today that Newcastle are prepared to sell Joey Barton for a cut-price fee of £1.5M in January.
Joey Barton – for sale in January?
This comes just a day after new manager Alan Pardew has said that he will not sell any of his top stars, so we have to wonder where this information is coming from, and Sky Sports is usually fairly reliable.
Bu £1.5M for Barton is a ridiculously low price, even if the Liverpudlian only has 18 months left on his current contract.
And we’ll not even mention he’s been one of Newcatsle’s best players this season.
If Newcastle are willing to sell their best players – what exactly is the strategy of this club for the future – to keep reducing the wage bill?
West Ham and Aston Villa are both interested in the player, but at £1.5M or even twice that amount, there will be a lot more clubs interested in Joey.
At 28 years of age he’s approaching his best form ever, and has already been mentioned as a possible England player again – he currently has one cap.
But who at the club is willing to sell one of our best players?
The only reason given by Sky Sports is that Newcastle want to further reduce their wage bill, and Joey is on around £60K/week, and presumably that could mean Newcastle are unwilling to offer him new terms that are anywhere near that figure.
So the club have got their messages crossed badly, if indeed this news has any truth in it at all – and we have to hope it doesn’t.
Let’s get this clear – Joey was out injured for around 5 months with a foot injury last season, and when he finally gets back to full fitness and starts to play a string of games in England’s top league, and is again one of Newcastle’s best players and scoring goals too – Newcastle want to sell him?
It makes no sense at all to us, and it can only be true if people who know nothing at all about football are running the Newcastle United club and making daft decisions like this – oh my – so it must be true. 😀
If Joey leaves in January we will be very upset – and have to hope that Sky Sports has got this story all wrong, but it’s worrying that this rumor about Joey keeps surfacing.
We would hope somebody at the club would come out and deny this rumor – and soon – after Alan Pardew only yesterday said Joey was going nowhere..
Comments welcome.

Comment #44Even Fat Tw*t & Lamears* aren’t daft enough to flog Barton for £1.5 especially when he is playing so well and on current form is probably in the top 8 English midfield players

Comment #45Sinner – Just repeating what I heard from a friend – Dave – who works at the club – in my local pub, the White Elephant.
Barton, S Taylor, R Taylor, Smudge, Loven out next month. Ranger on loan to Boro until summer, with Wheater coming in the opposite direction (permanent).
SWP is a done deal, Beckham in – 2 month loan.
Carroll going to Man U in the summer, Berbatov/Macheda + cash deal. Tiote to Chelsea, Enrique to City. Wickham coming in, along with C Austin and Honda from CSKA.
Don’t shoot the messenger!

Comment #51Pardew can say whatever he pleases but the final word is with Ashley.
Sure it would be another dumb move from a footballing point of view, but then what does Ashley know about football?
Dosh is his primary interest, squeezing nickels.
Too bad he got screwed by the Halls and Freddy, they must have laughed all the way to the bank.
Now he`s trying to make it up by saving penny`s.

Comment #57I’ll be gutted if we sell him. Barton, Carroll and Nolan are our best players by far in my opinion and they play really well together. If the fat bastard ruins that for the sake of wages he’s a much bigger idiot than we all thought. Sell Smith not Barton.

Comment #58I am starting to grow increasingly sick of these ridiculous actions that Fat owner does. Sell Barton for 1.5 million!! He must be nuts!!!!! He has never played so well and we have stuck by him through Barton’s worst moments only to sell him when he’s playing the best football of his career and is vital to our survival campaign. He is well worth every penny of his contract as Barton along with Carroll and a few others are the key players that will keep us up! Everyday now it’s another disturbing and shocking headline for Newcastle fans. ASHLEY LEAVE US ALONE!!!!!
PS. If you want to cut the wage bill further you fat clown then why not cancel Smith, Xisco and Perch’s contract and just pay the compensation fee!!!!!! YOU FAT CU*T!!!!!!

Joey Barton has the attitude of a real winner. He’s a TOP CLASS midfielder. He could go straight in to Man Utd and Chelsea if he did not have his poor reputation (thank god).
Let’s face it: Joey Barton is impossible to replace (for US atm) . We simply can not get an equally good player in if we sell him. No matter how much money we get for him, what we would get in will never be of his quality.
I finally got a new Newcastle Hero, and if he is sold, I will not be gutted… I’ll be f***ing torn apart.

Comment #60If the fat clown does actually sell Barton to reduce the wage bill you can kiss Carroll goodbye then. If that happens we will be going down I am afraid and I for one will not put up with the stress again. If that happens I will only come back to support Newcastle United when they get rid of that lunatic, money grabbing, senseless fat owner called Mike Fat Twat Ashley. I am really disappointed by all the shit that keeps going on and quite frankly I can’t take it anymore. Years after years taking it in with Freddy Shepherd only to have this guy turn everything upside down and make Freddy Shepherd look like a saint!!! Ashley get the F out now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hate you soooooo much you cannot imagine you fat shit!!

Comment #62Boater…. ur spot on. every post you have put has sent me into hysterics. The first one you put sums up this situation. I’m sorry but there is absolutely NO WAY PEOPLE that Ashley would sell Barton for 1.5million…. 7.5 maybe but 1.5???? jog on. I also get the feeling that this is a sensationalist headline for the press to wind the toon fans up about… like boater said we should be laughin this off and not even considering it as a possibility. I love the fact that almost all responses are people going mental about Ashley when it hasnt been confirmed. Ill be the first one to eat my words if he goes but come on…. seriously…….

Comment #63I always try and stay positive abouth all the crap that goes on with our beloved Newcastle United. But Hughton’s sqacking for me was a Huge blow, the Pardew signing was another blow (although a bit softer), but I was willing to back the manger and the team. Now this Barton rumour on Sky Sports (which usually says it how it is) for 1.5 million!!! Hell if I were to be offered even 8M I would have to think about it because where in the hell will you find a ready made replacement with Barton’s skill in a winter transfer window that can adapt to the EPL and supply Carroll the ammunition!!?? The answer is you’ll have to perform a miracle! It’s madness to sell him let alone for a measly 1.5M. I would consider an 8M offer in the summer but definitely not now!!! As for Carroll going nowhere well, after this shite you have to wonder ey! Wage bill my ass!!
What worries me is if Barton plays against Man City and gets revenge over De Jong’s tackle on Ben Arfa, then that will be the end of Barton I am afraid. This seems very likely considering the rumours n all.

Comment #65Here we go again Fat B, Fat tw@, Fat this. Fat that. Probably carry on over into the stands on Sunday. Great. It’s water off a ducks back for Ashley and if it does bother him, what does he do? He turns round and kicks us in the balls again. If there is any truth in the media rumours about Barton and Carroll, well maybe that’s him kicking us in the balls for the Liverpool game. The man is a billionaire. If he really wants to hurt us just imagine what he can do, who he can sell. You think it will really hurt him to lose a hundred million or so when he sells us as a championship club? Na, he’ll just stick his fingers up at us.
The Cockney media, just love to get at us. Are we so gullible? Well they think so and they love seeing us getting carried away over nowt. It’s Transfer window time again, it’s rumour time.

Comment #66GeordieGerman – I wish it were that easy to ignore. Sadly for me and most Nufc fans it aint so easy. I know it could just be rumours but Ashley has shocked me and caught me by surprise before when I only thought of the things as rumours. Sky Sports hardly every get the stories wrong and knowing how thick the Fat Cu&t is then this doesn’t surprise me to be true. After the Hughton sacking anything is possible in my eyes. ASHLEY OUT!!!

Comment #69Barton has been very good whenever he has played this season…however if i was a manager of another epl side i wouldn’t pay much more than £1.5 mill for his services due to his game time record and erratic behaviour…Boater could well be right…if Barton has handed in a transfer request Ashley sees this as the perfect opportunity to to get rid of Barton and his agent for good….it still rankles with Ashley that he was forced to pay Barton’s full wage while serving his time inside HMP.

Comment #79Also from SKY:
… and a Pardew in a pair dream
Newly-appointed Newcastle boss Alan Pardew is hoping to become only the third of Newcastle’s 11 full-time Premier League managers to win his opening two games in charge. Having beaten Liverpool in his first match, he will be hoping to follow it up with three points against Manchester City on Boxing Day. The only other two men to win their first two Premier League games in charge of the Magpies are Glenn Roeder and Graeme Souness.
Record of full-time Newcastle managers in opening two Premier League games:
Kevin Keegan (1st spell): Newcastle 0-1 Tottenham / Coventry 2-1 Newcastle
Kenny Dalglish: Southampton 2-2 Newcastle / Newcastle 4-1 Everton
Ruud Gullit: Newcastle 1-4 Liverpool / Aston Villa 1-0 Newcastle
Bobby Robson: Chelsea 1-0 Newcastle / Newcastle 8-0 Sheffield Wednesday
Graeme Souness: Southampton 1-2 Newcastle / Newcastle 3-1 West Brom
Glenn Roeder: Newcastle 2-0 Portsmouth / Aston Villa 1-2 Newcastle
Sam Allardyce: Bolton 1-3 Newcastle / Newcastle 0-0 Aston Villa
Kevin Keegan (2nd spell): Newcastle 0-0 Bolton
Arsenal 3-0 Newcastle
Joe Kinnear: Everton 2-2 Newcastle / Newcastle 2-2 Man City
Alan Shearer: Newcastle 0-2 Chelsea / Stoke 1-1 Newcastle
Chris Hughton: Man Utd 3-0 Newcastle / Newcastle 6-0 Aston Villa
