One person we’ve been impressed with since he signed on at Newcastle is Chief Scout Graham Carr.
Alan Pardew – reviewing transfer targets
Carr, who is the father of TV comedian Alan Carr, was announced last February, and has spotted some good players this year, including Cheick Tiote, who Newcastle got from Dutch club FC Twente for a measly £3.5M in August.
Alan Pardew is currently meeting with Carr and going through potential targets to bring into the club next month, and this is what Alan said today about his targets:
“I have not made one inquiry for a player,”
“At the moment we’re looking at a lot of players. I’ve been catching up with my chief scout and discussing players, and we know that the window is coming up very fast.”
“But you have to keep an open mind because you never know what is going to happen during the window.”
“All sorts of players might become available.”
It seems almost certain that if good players are available next month, then Alan will bring in at least two, or even three.
And it seems that Alan wants cover for Jose Enrique at left back, although young 19 year-old Irishman Shane Ferguson looked good when he has played in the first team.
Alan will also be looking for a striker to share the goals burden with new strike star Andy Carroll.
And he could balance that by allowing some of the fringe players to move out – if he can get buyers for them or even send them out on loan – and they could include Xisco, Best and Perch, to name only three.
