Pardew Discussing Transfer Targets With Chief Scout

One person we’ve been impressed with since he signed on at Newcastle is Chief Scout Graham Carr.

Alan Pardew – reviewing transfer targets

Carr, who is the father of TV comedian Alan Carr, was announced last February, and has spotted some good players this year, including Cheick Tiote, who Newcastle got from Dutch club FC Twente for a measly £3.5M in August.

Alan Pardew is currently meeting with Carr and going through potential targets to bring into the club next month, and this is what Alan said today about his targets:

“I have not made one inquiry for a player,”

“At the moment we’re looking at a lot of players. I’ve been catching up with my chief scout and discussing players, and we know that the window is coming up very fast.”

“But you have to keep an open mind because you never know what is going to happen during the window.”

“All sorts of players might become available.”

It seems almost certain that if good players are available next month, then Alan will bring in at least two, or even three.

And it seems that Alan wants cover for Jose Enrique at left back, although young 19 year-old Irishman Shane Ferguson looked good when he has played in the first team.

Alan will also be looking for a striker to share the goals burden with new strike star Andy Carroll.

And he could balance that by allowing some of the fringe players to move out – if he can get buyers for them or even send them out on loan – and they could include Xisco, Best and Perch, to name only three.

Comments welcome.

To my knowledge, Wolfswinkel was injured in the Europa League against Liverpool the other night so unless we do a Gosling and rehab him up here in the toon, it looks like an unlikely buy. I hear it was quite a nasty injury (no idea what though). I would however love him up alongside Andy, think they would link up well. If not RVW, then we do need a striker alongside Carroll as nobody else we have up top has any clue how to play (and more importantly score) in the EPL!

Robbie Keane is a woeful idea. He’s a money grabber and nowt else. I’d rather have Alan Carr as Andy’s strike partner.

Ricky Van Twinkletoes dislocated his shoulder against liverpool but supposidly he’s only out for a few weeks a would prefer to sign him on an agreement now so he comes at end of season so he can stay ther keep scoring and come for pre season, would be happy to sign a striker on loan from jan til end of season robbie keane onloan would be alryt just the fact his wages are ridiculous, would love some more creativity in our team anall we need atleast 1 winger poss 2 ad take Kranjcar off spurs hand permanently for about £3mil then wouldnt even mind gettin bentley on loan tbh his technique is 2nd to none all he lacks is pace but has one hell of a delivery could even sign him for about £5mil but a dnt think we have this sort of money in january, left back a wouldnt worry too much as we have young ferguson or kadar to cover even perch/simmo can play ther if wer that desperate

    Please sign the following

    1) Eden Hazard – Lille OSC
    2) Stefan Kießling – Bayer Leverkusen

    Please Sell the following
    1) Lets all have a Xisco
    2) That fella who does nothing but sit on his Perch all game
    3) Leon Worst

For the rest we seem to have a strongish team. Defending isnt my forte so i wont be naming any defenders. I can only name the likes of terry and ramos and puyol etc, players we cant touch.

Van Wolfwinkel broke his collerbone against Liverpool and is expected to be out for a few months.
Taarabt would be a brilliant signing exactly what we need very skillful and a great end product, although he would cost around 5m.
I for one am happy for Carr too work his magic a couple of unknown signings that live up to Tiote`s standard would be amazing!

Yes van Wolfswinkel is injured but so is Gosling, we signed Campbell unfit too so it could be possible.

West Brom will never part with Odemwingie plus he does not fit into our current transfer policy of buying players under 25

NUFC_Richygo1- with regards to Gosling and campbell they didn`t cost anything Van wolfswinkel wouldn`t come cheap. Although i`d like him here can`t see it and the money would be better spent on players able to play straight away.

Believe it or not I`d prefer NOT to sell Smith! reasons being is he seems to play a massive role for the team, one of the key members in the great team spirit we have. Would it be a good choice to get rid?

Well I dont think we need many players. Gosling and Ben Arfa are two new players who can cover multiple positions.

UP top we can play Ben Arfa- Nolan- Ranger with Carroll. Although we need one great signing to cement that position and play along side Carroll but we can wait for a better striker in the summer.

I think with the depth at CM that we have cover on the right wing with Ben Arfa- Barton – Gosling willing to play out there.

Left Wing would be the most pressing need at this moment- A Johnson/ Jarvis would cover us in the midfield and with Ben Arfa coming back it could be all we need until the summer.

Lets not have any panic buys and build this team up right.

Anyone willing to give S Ireland a go?

I have thought the same, and to be honest, when you think what we would get for him it is probably not worth selling him, but on the other hand, he is one of the biggest earners we have, and that is the biggest thing against him staying.

I would guess Graham Carr is only answerable to Ashley & he will only keep Pardew vaguely up to date on what he is doing, the reason behind this is secrecy, and by what he’s done already he’s proved Ashley’s money is invested well, if you look at what Chris done, I bet Graham Carr’s buys bring in more profit than Chris Hughton’s , in the modern game a manager has to rely on his scouting system, as this is a full time operation, and he’s sharing his time between youth and slightly more experienced players, all Pardew will instruct him is to find a defender, a midfield, & a forward. This is the way forward & Graham Carr is doing the business, and best of all Ashley trust’s him & will back his judgement with whatever money he needs. by Ashley’s plan he will buy them young, get their best years, then sell them on, the player gets a big payday, Ashley gets back his investment in the player, i.e. his purchase fee + a large slice of what he’s paid them, if it works we get good young players playing for the team & it costs nothing, this is what Ashley’s banking on to make him money. it’s so simple when you think about it.

Id love to see Bentley crossing loads of balls straight onto Andy’s head. I also wouldn’t mind Kevin gamiero he seems to be exactly what we need, a fast off the shoulder sort of striker. Id be more than happy if we could bring those two in. Theres also a quality winger called Dimitri Payet who plays for st etienne who id love to see at Newcastle but i think hed cost a canny bit.

I sometimes come onto the blog as there is often some interesting articles and up to date news but after reading the comments on this page I had to sign up to get across my complete dismay at some of my fellow fans.

Toonandy – You’re a complete idiot. Lescott? You mean Lescott who cost Man City over £20 million pounds, on the bench? Fernandez? Scouted by some of the top clubs in Europe and likely to command a few of £10 million +. It’s fools like you that cause the ‘deluded tag’ we have. You’ve got to be insane. Do you really think that is realistic?

Gemiero, Bentley, Johnson, Van Wolfswinkel, HAZZARD? (One of the most sought after players in Europe). I literally can not believe you’re mentioning these names as potential signings. The commenters on this blog must have the lowest IQ of any football discussion forum I have ever seen. There are a couple of sensible posts and suggestions (the likes Larsson & Gary O’neil) that are possibilities but for gods sake some of you have your heads in the clouds, you really do. Sort it out, your giving all of us a bad name.

I agree. Carr’s selections would probably be far, far better than Pardew’s.

So far I believe. Tiote, Ben Arfa, Gosling and Williamson are down to Carr, while Campbell, Best and Perch are down to Hughton.

Would Lakuku ever join Newcastle or would he rather join Chelsea, Utd, Barca and other teams like that, he’d be a brilliant signing! Payet wouldn’t be bad either but I’d rather have Lakuku and Doumbia, but then I suppose Carroll would lose his place if both signed as they are both quality players. Check out Doumbia’s goalscoring record for Young Boys.
