Newcastle After Striker And Left Back In January

Since Jose Enrique arrived at Newcastle in August of 2007, there hasn’t been any experienced cover for the Spanish U21 International in the left-back position.

Jose Enrique – cover coming in for him next month?

Well that may change next month if Alan Pardew get his way, because it seems like Alan wants to bring in a left back and a striker.

That’s at least according to the Newcastle Journal this morning, although we thought that 19 year-old Shane Ferguson looked good at left back when he’s played there, but it appears Alan wants experienced cover there.

Alan will need to balance having experience in the team with  also balancing  bringing youngsters through on Tyneside – not an easy job by any means.

And it’s even possible the two players will be simply squad players, so that would suggest they will not be youngsters arriving at the club next month.

The players coming in could also be loan deals, but of course it’s always hard to find a good bargain in January, but the new manager Pardew will be looking to strengthen a squad he has quickly reviewed over the last couple of weeks – and be ready to move as soon as soon as the window opens on New Year’s day.

This is what Alan said today:

“There could be a couple of players coming in,” “But this isn’t really a month where we want anything to happen.”“Maybe we could do with one or two players arriving, but that’s more about boosting us a bit in terms of the squad rather than the first team.”

“I think we look a little bit bare in certain areas. That would worry me if we got injuries.”   “As much as the group underneath the first team are good players, some of them have not had a lot of Premier League experience.”

“When things are going well, that’s not such an issue, they can come in and you don’t see the cracks.” “But if you’re having a tricky run and you need a boost from the bench, the players you’re bringing in need to be more experienced.”

“That’s a worry for me going forward.”

Alan knows he has to bring the youngsters through on Tyneside, but of course he will not be judged too much on that – but on how the first team does, and he’s well aware of that and knows he has to get the results through the end of the season.

It will be an interesting transfer month coming up, because you just never know who may become available, and you have to think some Man City players will be made available on loan.

After all, the Eastlands club have some top experienced players, who don’t even make the 18 man squad on match days.

So he wants to bring in another striker, so we’ll have 7 & a LB….. yeha I get the LB situ but not the striker coming in, not unless he’s shipping out at least 3 or 4 of the current strikers we have & thats not including the reserve & youth strikers we currently have either!!!

We need to get rid of Best, Xisco, Shola, Smith & possibly Loverboy, that will then leave us with Carroll, Ranger, Donaldson, Airey & Zamblera plus 1 new striker!!

Shola needs to go as he impeding chances for the younger strikers. Smith needs to go because he rarely plays well and is on big wages. I feel he’ll stay though due to his wages and no one will try and oust him for fear of disrupting the team spirit.

Van aanholt would be a good choice. The scout seems to have done okay with Tiote and Enrique hopefully he’ll pull another out of the hat

I think Enrique is the best left back in premiership. Evra and bale are great at going forward ,Enrique isn’t as great going forward but defensively haven’t seen much better.

Simpson could be doing with a bit of competition as well. Me personally think he’s average at best needs someone to push for his spot. Taylor has played right back a few times looked pretty good another option maybe.

Gylfi Sigurdsson former Reading player who is in Germany now and still progressing. Should be added to this list before he gets to in demand.

Can play on any wing or behind the striker and is a dead ball specialist with excellent speed and size. Absolute GEM

As for the LB and ST hmmm.

Not sure about the left back spot but wouldnt mind going with a vet to hold it down until the summer. That way Ferguson can still develope and not worry about his future. How is Warnock holding up at Aston Villa or even someone even less low key.

As for a striker I think we would be better of waiting until the summer if we cant find the player we want although a deadly partner for Carroll would be great.

Lets give Valeri Bojinov a chance to come back to england since his time here was disrupted by injuries.

For the defender a agree with Nova @ post 10 Warnock would be a great addition to the squad as for the striker I say Obafemi Martins would fit the bill as his time here was also injury-prone and now he’s playing at one of the easiest leagues in the world with Rubin Kazan who just dropped out of the Champions League.

I think if we are going to bring in a LB he has to be good enough to challenge Enrique for his place, With regards to a ST, A replacement for Strolla has to be the priority. Ranger has proved himself to be a good impact sub, Looking forward to seeing him play from the start though. Plus Ranger and Andy know each others game from their time together in the reserves.

We need a good young finisher. This club is crying out for one. Also another creative midfielder like Ben Arfa. I am sure if you look hard enough you will find many hidden gems in the football world.

Now let’s see what Pardew and this ‘famous’ scout Graham Carr can find… I for one am very anxious.

Samba would be a good signing at the right price and a pacey striker but apparantly spurs are after him despite having 8 CBs already…u cant have too many full international CBs in your squad apparantly…….Gallas, Bassong, Dawson, Corluka, Woody, Kaboul, King, i think they need a few more lol….and maybe a striker as Keane, Defoe, crouch, Pavlyawotshisname and Van der vaart are shite lol……i hate spurs they just buy players so everyone else cant im almost certain, rant over i think….

NO OBAFEMI MATINS!!!! – As much as I loved to see Martins run at defenses he only did it a handful of times for us. He never knew how to open up defense with his pace and continually caught offside. I would not welcome back Martins and his careless finishing and pathetic first touch had me cringe every time he had the ball. Missed hundreds of easy shots when with us and a major factor why we were eventually relegated. Also he proved to me he was only after the money and waxing lyrical about the best fans in the world only to jump ship as soon as we went down, some loyalty huh!

SWP would not be my choice of winger, he is pacy and skillfull but to get the best out of Caroll we need great deliveries from the right areas of the pitch and I don’t think SWP does that well in that department. Ben Arfa could make that his mission when he returns. Keep the good, out with the bad, a few tweaks and we’re looking pretty good. Some cover is definitely needed. Looking forward to Gosling’s first start when he returns, another potentially good midfielder.

Van Aanholt has to be signed permanently as he can become much better than Jose Enrique imo and he’s much younger, so he ha more time on his hands. He would be great competition for Enrique and it will keep him on his toes.

I think the same of Ranger. As he has the age advantage over Carroll in the long run he will become better imo. Just imagine Ranger and Carroll playing together and destroying defenses week in week out in the premiership!

I can’t wait! The first game being against Man City.

Sorry about straying from the topic, just responding to Jose Enrique @17. A clever and quick striker to play off Andy is my prefered purchase, but who knows, the quickly improving Nile Ranger could surprise us all. Merry Christmas to all Toon Fans hope the new year brings us all the good stuff our team needs.

Not sure why xisco is never given a chance whatsoever. He cost 5.7M and is on 50K a week.

Not giving him a go even as a left winger instead of Jonas maybe, is just scoring an own goal.

Definitely get rid of Best, Shola (1 good game in 10) and Loven (not really premiership standard finisher,) but I’d give Xisco more game time as back up to Carrol and Ranger.

Is anyone else here sick of hearing idiots say that we must sell shola! I don’t think shola should be in the starting line up, but where will we find a more experienced, more loyal player who can sit on the bench! Shola’s been around for a while now and has always given his all, would you give that up to see the likes of Viduka putting on the black and white kit and not giving a f**k!! Remember Shola was even there when we were in the Champions League with Sir Bobby.. that kind of experience will cost us! Sign a new striker..but leave Shola here to fight for his place (he will!!), you never know when he’ll net a few against the mackems again!!!

aguero10 i wish i was on crack lol…i was being sarcastic meaning spurs have class CBs and Strikers so why wud they need more as they are being linked with more of them lol…

Fair shout on Matt Jarvis tho…i agree we need a few wingers that get to the byline and cross such as Etherington, Jarvis, Pennant, Larsson, MGPedersen…..and a pacey striker.

I hate this time of the year!!!! Because there is so much speculation about possible transfers and the weather totally dessimates the Footy Programme!
If this crap weather continues much longer, then the whole competition is gonna be a rearranged fixture list.

Here in Holland, it is the winter stop and no games in the league competition except for the Dutch cup ( Amstel ).

I see the name van Aanholt on here, great player but Chelski will never let him go, so we could try and get him but i would be surprised if we did!
I would like us to seal Ben Arfa on a permanent transfer. Gosling is almost fit, and there are at least one or two players in the youth squad who are good enough to be used as cover for Jose at left back. The manager says that what we have in the youth is lacking experience, well then why not play them and give them that experience? I know a certain Monsieur Wenger would!

I am more concerned about offers for our better players in January. If a big offer comes in from a major club then i,m not too sure that Ashley would resist the bait. With such a transfer arranged and the possible media circus surrounding such at transfer, we would be up shit creek again without a paddle!

All this is of course is pure folly amd may never happen but is always possible. We are talking about Newcastle and our most recent history is one of turmoil. Call me a pessimistic sod but, i trust the owners and directie as far as i could throw them and would,nt trust a middle eastern take-over either!

MERRY CHRISTMAS and enjoy your mince pies lads!
