It seems that Newcastle striker Shola Ameobi will almost certainly miss the Boxing Day game with Manchester City at St. James’ Park, because of a tight hamstring.
Nile Ranger – likely to get start against Man City Sunday
Shola has been plagued with hamstring problems throughout his career unfortunately, and it seems it will again interrupt this particular run of games in the first team, for the 28 year-old local lad.
But that will give a big chance to Newcastle’s bright 19 year-old London boy Nile Ranger, after the striker was impressive in the final 35 minutes against Liverpool, when he seemed full of energy and running and was a real handful for the Liverpool defense.
Nile had been hoping and praying the game last Saturday at Birmingham was not postponed, because Shola was definitely not available for that game.
But it’s now almost certain that Alan Pardew will give Nile his first Premier League start ever on Sunday afternoon, against money-bags Manchester City.
It will be more than interesting to see how much trouble our two big lads Andy Carroll and Nile Ranger will give to the City defense, since the Eastlands back-line did not look too solid on Monday night, in their 2-1 defeat by a good Everton side.
Both Newcastle strikers are good in the air and play a very physical game.
And it’s a good time for 6’2″ Nile to show what he can do for the team, because he’s been so impressive in training this season that Newcastle have decided against sending the 19 year-old out on loan, with a host of Championship clubs lining up to take the lad on loan.
Presumably Ranger will now get enough playing time in the first team through the end of the season, he’s that good.
And Nile has already made 41 appearances for the Newcastle first team in his short career with 3 goals, and of course signed an improved contract recently that will keep him at the Tyneside club through the summer of 2016.
Time for lots of goals for Newcastle by then, and of course we are big fans of this up-and-coming youngster.
