Mackay Flattered At Link With Big And Prestigious Newcastle

11:56 am, Saturday, December 25th, 2010 by Ed Harrison · 8 Comments

Watford boss Malky Mackay was linked earlier in the week with the possibility of joining Alan Pardew at Newcastle, as his new Assistant manager.

Malky Mackay - seems keen on Newcastle link

And today Malky has come out and said that “at the moment“  he has not been approached by Newcastle.

The 38 year-old Scot has done very well at Watford and has them in 10th position this season, after a flirt with relegation last season.

This is what the former Scottish Intentional said to  BBC Three Counties Radio:

At the moment no contact has been made, I’m not someone that’s going to instigate things like that,”

At the moment no contact’s been made between the clubs.”

“It’s flattering to be linked to such a big and prestigious club like that. But my focus is on Sunday against Ipswich,”

“You’ve got to look at these things as and when they come up and what the situation is, but at the moment my full focus is on us over the Christmas period here.”

There are  three “at the moments” in there and the famous “it is flattering” statement too. :D

Translation - “It would be fantastic to be Assistant Manager at Newcastle and I really hope it happens – please come and get me.”

Malky has had quite a short time in management,  but he looks like he may be a top class coach-manager in the making, and this would seem to be a great move for him so early in his coaching career.

We’ll have to see if Alan follows up his reported interest in the Scot, but from his coaching record so far, it seems that Mackay would be an excellent acquisition for Alan Pardew at Newcastle United, but of course it would also be a loss for the Watford club.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

Pretty shocked that a Championship manager would be willing to change clubs to become a coach at another, but he has a very good track record. Would be a really good signing

Any TOSSER will work for MA if the price is right or they have no job but please do not sell it as a job for a fit and proper person.

Just goes to show lads, Newcastle United even with all the foolishness the fat man has brought, is still an enormous and tradition rich club if we can attract a midtable championship manager to come be a number 2 for us. He’s 4 places off the playoffs to be a premier league manager next year for pete’s sake!!!!!!hwtl
