Alan Pardew seems willing to keep Tim Krul in the Newcastle goals until such time as his form dips, or that Steve Harper displaces him because of his own top form in training.
Tim Krul – will keep goalkeeper position – at least for the moment
Pardew told the Sunday Sun today:
“The problem with Harps at the moment is games. He has not really had enough game-time.
“We would like to get another game under his belt really, but I am sure he thinks he is ready and can play. Tim performed well for me against Liverpool and made a couple of crucial saves and he has the jersey.”
“That is how it will stay until such time as Steve has a bit more under his belt and Tim’s form dips, but at the moment he is OK.”
“The policy is players will be picked on their contribution and not on reputation. That has to be the policy, because if I was a player here that is what I would want to see.”
That’s the right policy by Alan of course, because it’s hard to see Tim being dropped if he continues to play like he did against Liverpool, when he made a crucial save from Fernando Torres just a couple of minutes after the Reds had equalized early in the second half.
So at the moment, if Tim continues to put in the performances for Newcastle, it looks like he will keep the goalkeeper jersey at Newcastle.
For the record Tim has now made 12 consecutive appearances for Newcastle since he came on for the injured Harper at Manchester City, and he has made a total of 25 appearances for Newcastle so far in his career.
In our poll on who is the top Newcastle goalkeeper with around 1700 votes cast so far, Krul leads with 45% of the vote, Steve is second on 32% and Fraser Forster, currently on loan at Celtic, has 21% of the vote.
