Taylor And Coloccini In Defense – Routledge Gets Start

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has brought in Fab Coloccini to partner Steven Taylor in central defense for Newcastle United, in this afternoon’s home game against Manchester City.

Coloccini hasn’t played since being sent off in the game at Bolton four weeks ago, but today replaces Sol Campbell, who is dropped for the  game.

Wayne Routledge, who came on as a substitute in Alan Pardew’s first game in charge two weeks against Liverpool, will play on the right wing, as Newcastle will play with just one striker up front in Andy Carroll.

Newcastle will play in their 4-5-1 formation with Barton, Tiote and Nolan forming the central midfield and Gutierrez and Routledge out on the wings.

We have to think that Alan wants to combat the top midfield of  Manchester City, if we are to have any chance of winning this afternoon, and of course captain Kevin Nolan will play as a withdrawn striker.

Leon Best is one of the subs, but neither Sol Campbell nor Peter Lovenkrands make the bench this afternoon, although Sol may still be sick.

For Man City Joleon Lescott, as expected,  replaces the suspended  Kolo Toure, and former Newcastle winger James Milner also gets a start.

Former top goalkeeper Shay Given is on the bench for City, with England International Joe Hart again preferred in goal, and former Newcastle youth player Adam Johnson is also on the bench for the Eastlands side.

Nigel De Jong, the Dutch International, who broke Ben Arfa’s leg in two places the last time the two sides met in early October at Eastlands,  is back again for City, and will no doubt get an appropriate response from the Newcastle fans.

A win would be another fantastic result for the Newcastle side, and that’s what we are hoping for this afternoon, although we expect City to be a lot better than they were on Monday night when they lost 2-1 to Everton.

Howay The Lads!!

Teams:

Newcastle United: Krul; Simpson, S Taylor, Coloccini, Enrique; Routledge, Barton, Tiote, Gutierrez; Nolan; Carroll.
Subs: Harper, Williamson Perch  Guthrie Smith Ranger  Best

Manchester City -Hart; Kolarov, Kompany, Lescott, Boateng; De Jong, Barry, Toure (Y), Silva, Tevez (c) Milner.
Subs: Given, Vierra, Johnson, Richards, Zabaleta, Jo, Balotelli

It’s means we have one attacking midfielder maybe Nolan or Barton will play attacking or maybe Alan Pardew wants to play Nolan and Barton attacking Tiote holder midfielder

Man city play with 7 defenders and 4 up front so no real point of opting for pace early on as they dont push forward enough. Maybe Ranger coming on late could provide a boost like against Liverpool.

Clearly AP hasnt seen to much of the toon, asnd just going on what he knows as williamson is a too defender, as he queitly gets on with his business. Suppose he is abit too much like Colocinni in their style of defending, so opted for the dominance that Taylor will supposedly provide.

in my opinion that’s when we need to be running at them. Everton scored 2 goals in the opening 20 minutes and Man City never found their rhythm after that.

If there is one thing that this EPL season should’ve taught everyone by now (Pardew obviously is excluded) it’s that those who sit back and defend lose. simple as. We lost to WBA because we sat back, let them come to our midfield and were never able to push on from that point.

this isn’t entirely to say that a 4-5-1 is strictly a defensive approach, but it sure would’ve been nice to see Nile get a start. Guess he needs to get to training on time

The thing with Ranger is that he changed ther game too much for his own good against Liverpool. Hes the only player that can come on and really change the game as hes full of running when the defenders are tiring. Abit like Walcott…if they start him they loose an option later in the game.

We outpassed them at there place and were screwed over by the referee tbh. If Barton and Tiote are on song i really think we can boss the middle.

Also with this formation I think we loose alot that Nolan gives. He is fantastic at coming from deep onto Carrols knockdowns, but in this formation he seems to play almost alongside carroll, so he is already there and not ghosting in.

    Off topic:
Why isn’t Ameobi on the club calendar for 2011? Lovenkrands is September – he’ll be gone by then. Poor Shola, he’s a cracking lad.

We should have continue to play an attacking formation with 2 strikers upfront. We’re going to have problems scoring goals tonight with the likes of lescott,Kolarov and Kompany.=/
Rofl,Milner is having a start today.

Lovenkrands is not in the squad. He is on his way. About time Jonas delivered cos he has been crap most of the season. Too cold for him. I have bought him a snood with matching mittens and long john thermals.

Hope we keep winning because as soon as we lose the pressure will be right on Pardew. He must be on a good screw to work for the fat man and he will appreciate he can be shown the door at any time so he can hardly comp[lain. What goes around comes around Pards. Compensation will be Ok though!!!!

@Oleg: First goal was because Krul decided to pass it under pressure on the edge of the box, letting Barry knock it into an open goal, second goal was because Tioté passed to Nolan who was running back into position, hit off his back and let Milner tap it into the box for Tevez the manchild to tap it into the net.

    Yeah, I know.

Routledge is lively today though, hope he keeps it up.
