Alan Pardew To Keep Faith In Krul – Harper Not Ready

Tim Krul has not made too many mistakes since he came into the Newcastle goal,  for the injured Steve Harper in early October.

Gareth Barry scored after just 70 seconds yesterday

But he made a howler after just 70 seconds of yesterday’s game against Man City, when he needlessly passed the ball out to Joey Barton, who was marked by Carlos Tevez, and  the Argentine  quickly got the ball and  gave it to Gareth Barry, who swept the ball home – between Tim’s legs.

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew suffered his first defeat as Newcastle manager in his second game in charge yesterday, and had this to say about Tim after the game:

“Tim quite understandably held his hands up in the dressing room and admitted he made a mistake,”

“He needs to learn, but young goalkeepers are going to make mistakes here and there. He has to make sure it doesn’t happen again, but I have no problem with Tim staying in the goal.”

“At the moment, Steve Harper is not quite ready, we just haven’t had the training ground for him to be able to train and get to the level he would like to be at. So Tim will definitely be in goal at Spurs.”

It was apparent that the terrible weather had adversely affected Steve Harper’s race back to fitness,  and he’s just not had enough games to be ready to come in for Tim.

But with Newcastle giving away so many silly goals this season, it could be that Pardew wants Steve Harper taking over in goal again, once he’s fit enough, if only because of the extra experiences Steve has over Krul.

And Tim will only be better for the run he’s having in the first team, and the Dutchman needs to get back to basics and learn from yesterday’s game.

And we sure that’s just exactly what he will do.
