Bad News As Enrique Out, Perch In – And Pardew Plays 4-5-1

With the Spurs game coming just 48 hours after the Man City game, there’s some bad news today that Jose Enrique is out with a hamstring problem.

Jose failed a fitness test today and will be replaced by James Perch, who comes in at right-back for his first Premier League start since mid-October.

Danny Simpson will apparently switch to the left-back position to cover for Enrique, but does that mean Perch will be up against Gareth Bale?

We certainly hope not.

And Alan Pardew is going with a more defensive 4-5-1 line-up and we have only Andy Carroll up front.

We have to say this is a disappointing line-up, with defensive midfielders Tiote and Smith both in central midfield sharing the duties with Joey Barton, and Gutierrez and Routledge are out on the wings, as they were on Boxing Day.

Kevin Nolan, who is always a goal threat,  is serving his one match ban for getting his 5th yellow card on Boxing Day.

And both Xisco and Best, as well as Nile Ranger are on the bench this afternoon.

You have to wonder where the goals will come from this afternoon for Newcastle – yes we know – it will be a Barton cross into the penalty box headed home by big Andy – of course.

The game is being televised live around the world and surprisingly Seb Bassong is only on the bench for Spurs, along with another former Newcastle midfielder Jermaine Jenas.

What really worries us about this game is whether Newcastle can hold the Tottenham wingers Lennon and Bale – with Danny Simpson and James Perch.

It probably points to Pardew needing to bring in an experienced full-back next month.

But we have to hope the players are really in form this afternoon – because this is an important game and we have to get something out of it.

Howay the Lads!!

Teams:

Tottenham: Gomes; Hutton, Kaboul, Dawson, Assou-Ekotto; Modric, Placios, Bale, Lennon; Pavlyuchenko, Van der Vaart
Subs: Pletikosa Bassong Corluka Kranjcar Keane Crouch Jenas

Newcastle: Krul; Perch, S Taylor, Coloccini, Simpson; Routledge, Barton, Smith, Tiote, Gutierrez; Carroll.
Subs: Harper Kadar Williamson Best Xisco Ranger Lovenkrands

    why not kadar?

    or ferguson?

Perch is bad at RB and worst if he play LB

Bale is one of the best players in the world, i would stick with simpson on the left and kadar/ferguson on the left

this is the worst team selection ever. Tiote and Smith are similar, i would prefer ranger to play the attacking midfield role that nolan hold

Pray for a miracle lads, we`re screwed if (when) they score first.
Bale against Routs/Perch—Lennon against Jonas the brave/Simpson—Modric/VdV against Smith.
Can`t see much here for us. Pards said going all out to win every game. BALLS are we.
May as well have played 2x goalies.
    Disgusted at this—no imagination!!

Its gunna be just like Man City game, we will still lose we CANNOT play 1 upfront it just doesnt work the only time we play well is when we have 2 up-front and we should play Ranger and Carrol as that would cause alot more trouble for the Spurs defence, i think they could keep carrol silent for the whole game as they would double up on him and we wont be able to attack, a poor choice of formation one that hints that we are scared or Spurs much like we were of City!

its unlucky for us that enrique is unfit…
perch should be grateful to pardew and repays with a good game..really2 hope so..
i agree with the midfielders line up..
tiote and smith should gives us more cover at the back for an away game..
ranger should come in 2nd half to be the game changer..like he always do..
    toon army march on!!!

To me, a player should not always on their position, they must be capable to adapting their self base on the game play, for example, like MU their player can player every position to cover those who can’t perform well.

so in our situation, i think there must be something different.

I guess they are going to be very defensive doubling up on the Spurs wingers.

    Playing a more counter-attacking style.

9 behind the ball and hit them on the break.

A clean sheet and Carroll scores from his one chance.

Very timid line-up, conceding the initiative, setting up a team to try to stop the opposition playing, not to win.

There will be no support for Carroll, but they will boot it long for him to knock down the ball and concede possession.

We are going backwards already, negative football – come back Fat Sam all is forgiven !!

No Enrique and Perch & Simpson fullbacks with slow motion Smith in midfield. I think we mught get a right royally hammering. I’m not looking forward to seeing my spurs mates later this evening I think this could be our biggest defeat of the season at least 4 could be 5 or 6 with that team. I think we should have gone at Spurs as they are vunerable at the back. Playing 4-5-1 is inviting them to batter us, I’m not looking forward to this at all

Pardew will have to learn about Smith. Perch gives me a scare. Fall behind early & get on 3 subs who need the exposure. Fingers crossed it is not a hiding.

Smudger Smith to score a hatrick. Only five more games and he will have played 100 without scoring. A world record for a midfielder/forward. Not bad for £275K a month.

To be honest its probably the best team to put out with Enrique injured. Playing 4-4-2 does not mean you are playing for a win.
Some very niave views on here, Jimiley you are the most pessimistic bloke in the world hope we win even more just to prove you wrong but i guess you will be only happy if we lose as you will feel so smug.

Perch v Bale & Simpson v Lennon WTF they’ll get their asr&s whipped Spurs will have a field day on the flanks and in midfiled. I really think the best thing to do when playing Spurs is to attack them as their defence is poor & they have a goalie that drops real howlers. Pardew’s team indicates to me he’s sh*t scared of spurs. I think we could get a real stuffing

No midfield cover either on the bench. Xisco in front of Guthrie on the bench. 3 Strikers? Loven, Ranger, Best. 2 backs? This basically says that the 5 across the middle are staying in all game. Or that he intends to use Loven/Ranger on the wing. I can’t imagine he would put Best in there at any time. This line-up really is baffling.

I think Perch was probably the best player to put in place of Enrique today anyway! Kadar is too inexperienced and so is Ferguson! I’m sure he’ll try his hardest and lets just get behind the team instead of slating the team selection!! I still Martins lashed that goal home at Spurs away! Good times haha 1-0 win for the Toon!!!!
