Harper Reclaims The Goalkeeping Jersey At Newcastle

Even though Tim Krul had a good game last Tuesday at White Hart Lane, news today that Steve Harper will regain the goalkeeping jersey at Wigan tomorrow.

Steve Harper – back in Newcastle goal at Wigan

Tim Krul has done very well in the games he has played since Steve was injured at Everton on 18th September, and his only big mistake was in giving the first goal away to Man City on Boxing Day, with a poor kick.

Including the Everton game, Tim played 17 consecutive games in goal for Newcastle, and will have become a better goalkeeper because of it, but 22 is very young for a goalkeeper these days, and he will still need to be patient.

Don’t forget Tim will be able to play on until he’s 40 years old – if he takes care of himself.

It seemed that Steve would have come in after the City game at Spurs, but the 35 year-old was not quite ready, and we have to think he’s somehow got a game or two in practice behind him, and must be looking good.

Still, we would think most Newcastle fans will think Tim is a little unlucky,  after a good performance at White Hart Lane, where he made a couple of great saves.

Newcastle are not short of good goalkeepers of course, and Fraser Forster, the 6’7″ 22 year old who was born in Hexham, is currently doing well at Celtic and picking up valuable first team experience.

The game tomorrow at Wigan is of vital importance to Newcastle, and another defeat would start raising some alarm bells on Tyneside, so we hope Steve is back to his best form for the game, which is the late kick off game at 4:00 pm,  and again is being televised live around the world.

It doesn’t help that top striker Andy Carroll will miss the game with a thigh injury.

Pardew is a clueless clown who’s got the job by default. Carry on like this and we are only going one way, like all the other teams he’s ever managed. NUFC stinks at the moment.

Squad selection seems a tad odd at the moment.

Its one of those we feel sorry for Steve and feel we HAVE to put his as n01 not on ability just how long he has been at the club (same with Ameobi) i bet you a goal (goals) will get you asking “Harper should of saved that or done better with that” he is hopeless from crosses or any balls in the air this could be a factor if we lose!

I analyse that no way is harper better than Krul.

Based on what a handfull of first team games?
Only seen Krul make a couple of good saves, hasn’t exactly been keeping clean sheets to warrant keeping his place. Harper is a better shot stopper.
It is over analysing when people are questioning the team selection when everyone knew Harper would be taking back no1.

Jersey? You’ve been in the States too long, Ed. In Geordieland we usually call them strips or shirts. They’re not woolly jumpers!

i really dont think there is much between them to be honest, i do feel a bit more confident with harper at the back though.
