Leon Best Put On Transfer List By Newcastle

News today that striker Leon Best has been put on the transfer list by new Newcastle manager Alan Pardew.

Leon Best – put on transfer list

The striker has failed completely to make any impact on Tyneside over the last 12 months, and was hardly a good signing by former manager Chris Hughton, who signed Leon on the very last day of the January transfer market last year.

Newcastle will now try to recuperate the money they spent on the Irish International, which is thought to be around £500K.

Leeds United, Burnley and Nottingham Forest are Championship clubs said to be interested in the player, and Pardew wants a quick sale so he can use the money to spend in the January transfer window.

Amazingly Best is now 5th choice in the striking order at Newcastle behind Carroll, Ameobi, Lovenkrands and young Nile Ranger – but he’s still in front of Xisco.

So we have to think Xisco will also be transfer listed – since he’s picking up big wages on Tyneside, and is hardly ever included even in the match day squad of 18.

Leeds are the current favorites, but Middlesbrough could well move in quickly for the striker, since Leon was a target for the Teesside club last summer.

We also thought that James Perch could be on his way in January.

But his good performance at Tottenham, where he played his heart out for the side, out of position at left back, and had a decent game, will keep him at Newcastle for the time being.

He may not be the greatest player in the world,  but it’s really difficult to criticize  a player when they give the 100% commitment and effort James showed right through the game on Wednesday.

If you look at the game again, it really looks like James was playing as though his life depended on it!

Maybe Alan Pardew can get players to play out of their skins for him – we’ll soon see at Wigan this afternoon.

Comments welcome.

I thought he cost us £2m ? I think he’s been unlucky here, never really given a chance and didn’t look too bad the few times i saw him play. Hope he does well wherever he goes.

To be honest he has been unlucky with injuries, and has not had a good run in the team. At least he wants to stay and play, unlike Xisco (the poor mans Marcelino). Plus he always looks like he wants to make runs behind defenders, and thats what we are missing.
Anyway, why have Lionel Richie and Leon Best never been seen in the same room together?

He’s not good enough… He was crap in the spurs game, he was ball-watching all the time! Lennon must have really enjoyed playing against him. He really is a Championship player at best…

Ronaldeano… Best didn’t play against Spurs… you’re not mistaking him for James “Looks Just Like Bubbles Off The Wire” Perch are you?

Why would Lennon enjoy playing against Best? He a Striker, not a defender so wouldn’t be directly up against Lennon. The fact that he was only on the bench would also make it difficult to enjoy playing against him.

If Leeds want Best maybe look at the possibility of swapping him for Becchio.

Anyway he wasn’t given a chance at all in the Premier League. I don’t believe he will be transfer listed this winter. Our squad is quite thin at the moment, and you might never know when key players start to get serious injuries.

Unless Newcastle has already secure another striker….

Ed is that the Perch who virtualy invited lennon to score once and nearly twice a minute later !!

Best is a good start, but has to be followed by Perch (tavernier is better) and Smith (anyone is better)

I’m sure he could put the ball on Carrol’s head!
Not sure he would come mind.

Eh, the lad hasn’t had a chance. A bit unfortunate seeing as he’s done everything but score in the games he been in.

    Probably the right decision, though.

I think we gotta be realistic about what may happen as we ain`t gonna spend fortunes. Too late for Becchio who I have mentioned for last 2 months– he`s just signed a new 4 year deal.
    1) Swap Best for Wheater + cash if necessary as Mowbray has said he wants to leave.
2)Keane deal is a must £3mill at aged 3o is still great value–clever naturally fit player who will get us 10-15 goals 2nd half of the season
3)Bentley on loan to provide service to Carrol/Keane—-no brainer, this lad is a natural talent wasting away.

The above 3 are available and therfore is doable!
    Benny and Gos coming back—–SORTED!!

Indeed Best never had a chance in the BPL, but last year he played a number of games and how many did he score???

But if I had to choose I would first get rid of Xisco, why did Wise ever bought him; I don’t understand that. I hope we never buy any other Spanish players again; they all seem to be great prospects and when they arrive in Newcastle they cannot kick a ball. Luque; Marcelino; Xisco…

Perch is CC player and also a Hughton transfer; so get rid of him too and bring in someone who can defend.

We won’t get beckham we won’t get bently we won’t get keane or that 6ft 8 geezer that was mentioned earlier…. Ashley won’t buy anyone who will want more than 45 grand a week in wages so keep dreaming we will more than likely sign 3 young championship players or a couple of unheard of foreign players, people seem to forget that we are no longer big spenders and the quicker you realise the better!!!

This is so far out its unreal, not just because there is anyway Ashley would pay this but neither would i if i was in Ashley’s position. Keane is worth no more then 2 million because of his age and the time he has spent on the bench. Then there is Bentley, another player surplus to requirements at Spurs. I would put in 5 million for Bentley at the most. We look like getting HBA for around 5 million and he is a better player then Bentley so why pay any more for him. Both player combined should cost no more then 8-9 million. If both players were regulars at Spurs then you could double the amount.

Then there is this, never seen the kid play but heard his name mentioned quite a few times.

SSN–latest– Carrol late fitness test for todays game.
    obafan–Enrique from Iceland or summit?
Loud9–£45k is the max any club who wants Keane or Bentley would pay.
To give them a chance to kickstart their careers in front of 52,000 I think would appeal. Bentley`s still young.

Bentley is probably on about £60 grand a week at spurs so cant see him taking such a big drop in wages and the problem we have is other clubs that we will be competing with for his signature know they can out bid us on wages if someone offered u 45 grand a week and someone else offered you 60grand a week who are u going to sign for???

Obafan: Spanish players need time to settle in the league. Enrique took almost 1 and a half year to adapt to the English games….

Spanish players are technically stronger than English players, they lack pace andT strength, which can be developed in a year or so…..

Though, I would prefer, German players over Spanish players, who are technically strong plus they have physical strength to survive in the league…

people think that players wont take drops in wages but if it was me and i was offered say £60’000 a week to play for west ham or £45,000 to play for everton, i would probably choose everton.
that is an unbiased opinion as i support newcastle, and i can see us being as much as a draw as everton as we may not be as stable but we have way more potential and a massive stadium.

Whatever, unfortunately money makes the world go round and we are now a small fish in a big pond so keep wishing that we will sign top quality players, we won’t Ashleys model is to buy young and cheap hope they improve massively and then sell for a huge profit….. Doubt very much we will sign any of the players the papers have so far linked us to however I would love to be proven wrong and made to eat my words as some of the players we have been linked to are class!!!

Name 1xclub outside Manure/Arse/Chelsea/City who would be able to pay more than £45k to Keane/Bentley who want to sign them and can offer cica 50.000 at home matches.
Even with all the bollox we are still a big draw.
L,pool/ Everton etc are all bloody skint!!
There in a worse place than us with underperformers on big wages.
