Newcastle Reported After Ivory Coast 6’8″ Striker

The Sunday Mirror is reporting today that Newcastle are after a striker who is 5 inches taller than current star Andy Carroll.

Lacina Traore – 6’8″ 20 year-old striker

The player the paper is reporting Newcastle are interested in, is 6ft 8in Ivory Coast born Lacina Traore.

Traore is currently at Romanian champions CFR Cluj, after playing until 2008 for his home-town club in the Ivory Coast, Abidjan.

The news is that former Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce was ready to sign the 20 year-old for Rovers, but lost his job before he was able to do the deal.

But the £8M fee quoted for the player would seem to put a big doubt over the validity of this story, since there is no way Newcastle will pay £8M for a 20 year-old, who is unproven in the Premier League.

Maybe we would have done that a few years ago, but that’s a big big risk, and if the fee was about half of that then Newcastle may indeed be interested.

Again, we have no idea how much truth is in this Sunday Mirror story.

Comments always welcome.

I’ve watched this guy on you tube….he’s rough but he has a surprisingly decent touch for a big guy. At 8 million, he’s out of our league but I do hope there is a chance, he’s better that crouchy going from reports and footage……

I’d bet my house on it that this one wont happen. The last thing we need is another tall striker, we need a small, quick striker and preferably one with Premiership experience.

I also doubt we’ll spend £8m total in this window let alone on one young player.

I doubt it i put up today this would be my pick to buy someone earlier today heard nothing bout it! i swear the Sunday Mail must of read my comment ( comment 15.

I wonder if they will nick whoelse i menthioned (Didier Ya Konan) TBH i have seen Lacina plays and he just has everything we need pace ALOT of strenght and he never gives up on anything @ Clij they would sell and with Tiote and him saying he wanted to move to EPL we could get him but as i stated it could be too expensive and what they say around £8 Mill is tad too high for us! good player nonetheless and a better kind of player we need compaired to Keane who is passed it in my eyes.

Damn this guy’s tall!! What a giant. But we already have two in Carroll and Ranger. We need a quick striker that’s good with his feet. A winger that can cross the ball into the danger area (is that bloody difficult!!), and another centre midfielder as Smith is useless.

Imagine if we had 11 players like Andy Carroll. All being giant and powerful like him. Wearing their heart on their sleeve every time and being a nightmare for the opposition. A whole team of hungry pacy giant athletes sounds good to me. Then just add a bit of class in the likes of Ben Arfa and Barton and we’re unstoppable.

Jesus christ….i know youtube doesnt tell the whole story…but my god, he would be worth a look even if he was 5’11’. Skillful and a powerful runner.

He doesnt seem like 6’8 zigic who cant jump or run, he seems like a proper footballer, but who happens to be 6’8.

In the video above, hes headed in goals ran up the wing, skilled players done clever flicks and scored rocket goals with both feet.

Seriously, he is such an exciting prospect…at 20!!!

I would take him right away! 6’8!

Just wondering if we call Andy Carroll “Big Andy” Then should we sign Traore what the hell do we call him?

i read the news in daily mirror, and according to this page, lacina traore, would be available around 5 million of euros, i do not know how reliable is the page.
lacina traore is good player, i would sell, best, xisco and ameobi.
and i would stay six strikers.

    keane (on loan)
    lacina traore
    and one more?

Wow I’ve just seen the videos! We get these two players and it would be amazing!! Imagine what it would do to the team we already have. They both seem possible as they don’t play for any major club.

Saw that Manure are letting Macheda go out on loan to the team that will play him the most games.

Surely we could promise that? Up front with Carroll for the rest of the season.

If we got this guy, I think it 100% confirms we will never ever be a ”footballing” team again.
The fact Allardyce wanted to sign him says it all.

As it is, the ball never stays on the ground with us as we have morphed in to the proverbial god awful, long ball 2010/2011 version ” of the old wimbledon ” team.

God I long for the days of Beardsley.

    That guy is beast!!!
I really hope Newcastle go after him,he is really good on his feet/
    Pardew go for himmmmm
And the thing we wont get him on cheap.
He would be around 10m to 20m.

lacina Traore is a decent player, but i dont think he would be able to make it in PL.D:/
    + 8m is a bit too much.

Cant believe that none of you have shown the slightest concern that this man could possibly be a REPLACEMENT for Andy Carrol, not his body double.

I cant use the saying I wouldnt chuck Mike Ashley as far as I could throw him because fortunately I could and would throw him quite far. However, if someone did offer £20 (a good sixth of what he paid for the club back from costing him nothing), I would NEVER bet against it. We already have a big man temporary stand in in Shola. As bad as he is, if it is only for TEMP cover when Andy is out then Shola is an able deputy. So why sign a man who arguably could do Carrolls job on a more permanent basis.

He’s not that great, the romanian league is pants and he’s not that great in it, 8 mil pounds is way too much considering the most i’ve read was about 4 mil euros.

looks like a decent player but we already have enough long balls playing in!!! and if we do sign him we would have to buy a winger who can cross otherwise hes worthless !!! and could imagine him having a lot of competition with andy for headers in teh box (maybe this would drive andy or it could reduce his influence in the game)

Sounds like a tall story to me. (ahem)

Mind, the idea of making Andy Carroll into the “small, quick striker” to play alongside this monster is certainly a novelty.

Is This Lad a Pal of Tiote’s ?? If we can get him for 5 million euros then yes as we need new blood and he would be ideal . aswell as Robbie Keane . Best Has not got any finishing ability he looks a Championship Player really (Sorry To Say) Maybe Get Him and Peter Crouch up front Just keep banging in crosses we would get loads of goals !!!! I think we will get a few Signings this week maybe one for wednesday evening ????.

We rely on Carroll too much for goals, i feel we should become a passing team like Blackpool and play fast attacking football, with good crossers on the wing. There is too much pressure on Andy getting the goals and him winning the headers from thumping it up pitch. Play fast along the ground football and become an exciting and good to look at team. I definately feel we have the talent in the team already for us to do that !!!
