Leon Best On Transfer List – Not True Says Pardew

Well would you believe it – we were all told on Saturday that Leon Best had been put on the transfer list by Alan Pardew – well that’s just not true.

Leon Best – not for sale

And Leon made his Premier League debut late in the game at Wigan yesterday, and we must say he looked quite sharp, and with a little bit of luck he could have scored just before the end.

Leon has not made a successful start to his career at all at Newcastle, but there again he’s had a lot of injuries to contend with, and we remember he did score two goals in pre-season and looked sharp in those games too.

But he has still to score his first goal for Newcastle in competitive play.

Best has started just six games since signing from Coventry City 12 months ago, and has 14 appearances for Newcastle, and is now the 5th striker apparently behind Nile Ranger as well as being behind Carroll, Lovenkrands and Ameobi.

Reports on Saturday said Leon Best had been put on the transfer list by Pardew, but apparently that’s not true,  as Pardew told the Evening Chronicle today:

“That’s not true at all.” “Leon played a really nice cameo at Wigan.”

“It was good to see the fans’ reaction to him, which I thought was positive and good.”

“He put his life on the line with a couple of challenges out there in the short period he was on.”

If Best is staying at the club then we’ll probably see him make a sub appearance again on Wednesday night against West Ham, and we’ll see what he looks like then.

But what Leon needs most to get his Newcastle career going is a goal, and if he can get one, then who knows he could still come good.

But we must say this is surprising news about Leon, who’s had a terrible time of things over the last 12 months.

We have to think that he’s looked good in training since he returned from injury, otherwise he wouldn’t have got the nod in front of Nile Ranger yesterday.

Comments welcome.

I think that if we should sell a striker that it has to be Xisco; he is at the bottom of the picking order and has done absolutely nothing for this club.

Then get Keane on loan and we are sorted in front of the goal.

Add a good LB and get rid of the average players (Guthrie and Perch).

Oh and i think Tiote really got a slap in the face yesterday; I’ve seen it a few times on MOTD2 and according to me he got hit. His reaction was exaggerated, but what would happenned if it was Barton who did that to a Wigan player????

    ED; They got you again!

I know it’s a shocker, but rags like the Sunday Sun don’t report the News – they just make it up, ironically, often after reading blogs like this.

It’s cheaper & easier than journalism, you can work without ever leaving the office/pub, and if it excites or upsets the fans so much the better.

Leon was very unlucky not to score yesterday and Pardew must think that if Best gets more playing time that he will eventually take a chance and hopefully that will boost his confidence.

Did you see Best’s legs go at the end of the good run he made and nearly scored from, that happens to me 🙂 but I’m over twice his age!

Gotta say it’s a shame he’s taking valuable playing time from ranger.

I was at the game and thought Leon put in a decent shift yesterday and was unlucky to slip on his long run at goal. Won some good tackles and a few decent challenges in the air for a smaller lad.
Ranger didnt play because he is becoming a waste of talent. Needs a long sit down with Joey and uncle Kev.
Its choice time Nile become a premier league footballer or another could have been with a bad attitude who would rather party!!

Man, how do ANY of you know whether Best is good enough or not?? Pardew played crap tactics in the second. We sat back too much and then what’d we do? we stick Best for his FIRST f*cking PL star….alone up top. I’ve seen best play as much if not more than any of you and tell me, what has he done wrong?? He hasn’t scored goals, but he works as harder or harder than anyone on our team. You guys are a disgrace. Just really disgusting people. Show some compassion for the kid and give him a proper chance before you, so experted in your assessments, slag him off. He is on the team you support, you know

Obafan… I dunno how you can say that Danny Guthrie is an ‘average’ player, I know we were in an easier league last season but he was one of our players of the season, he just hasn’t had a look in this season but he’s definately one for the future when the likes of Barton and Nolan hit their 30’s.

i think we need to give him a chance, as a striker confidence is main part of there game in willing to take the shot. once he gets a goal, who knows….
