A bit of a surprise tonight in that Shola Ameobi is again out injured, it’s 99% certain to be his hamstring yet again, and therefore Leon Best gets the start for Newcastle United tonight, in their vital game against 3rd bottom West Ham United.
The 24 year-old striker comes in for Shola Ameobi, and that’s the only change from the side which easily beat Wigan 1-0 on Sunday.
But to call Shola injury prone is an under-statement, and now we have the untested Leon Best, who has yet to score for Newcastle over the last 12 months – leading the line – but he does have the experienced Peter Lovenkrands beside him.
However, on the positive side of things this is a great opportunity for Best to show what he can do for Newcastle tonight, but we wonder where the goals will come from, if we are to be brutally honest.
Nike Ranger will no doubt be used at some point in the game tonight, and Nile has yet to score a PL goal for Newcastle.
Scott Parker, the former Newcastle midfielder and captain, starts for West Ham tonight, and it’s interesting that young 19 year-old left-back come left winger, Shane Ferguson, makes the bench tonight, but no sign of Dan Gosling.
Wonder if Shane will get a run-out on the left wing at some point tonight.
Anyway, we need all 3 points against West Ham tonight – there’s no doubt about that.
