Are Newcastle Interested In Freddie Sears?

Alan Pardew,  after the game against West Ham United on Wednesday evening, hinted that he may be interested in a player from his former club.

Freddie Sears – Newcatsle may be interested in this 21 year-old winger

And while that could be any number of players, one that certainly fits the profile of players Newcastle want to bring in, is 21 year-old Freddie Sears.

Freddie played the whole game for West Ham at St. James’ Park, when Newcastle were just too good for the London side, and the bad 5-0 defeat seems to have cost Avram Grant his job, according to news this morning.

Sears has so far played 21 times for West Ham with two goals, and joined the club when he was 11 years old, and he can play on the wing or up front as a striker

Freddie has played 3 times for the England U21 side with one goal, and has been on loan at Scunthorpe United, Coventry City and Crystal Palace.

In total the Hornchurch, London born player has 74 first class games to his credit already, with a couple of goals and stands 5’7″ tall.

In February last year Sears went on loan to Coventry City for the rest of last season, and returned to the London club at the start of this season, but then found his playing opportunities were limited

So in October he joined Scunthorpe United, on a loan deal which lasted just over two months, and he made 9 appearances before returning  to the Hammers just before Christmas, and played against Newcastle on Wednesday night.

He has made 5 appearances for West Ham so far this season with a goal against Wolves.

Alan Pardew may well be interested in Sears, but the youngster would probably also be one for the future, although Freddie would get some first team games this season.

What do you think?

fingers crossed, alan smith goes to leeds, that should free up some money for new players in his wages alone, what a disappointment he has been.

Freddie Sears is a centre forward who plays off a tall man and has scored hundreds of goals as a youth! He is not a winger!!!!!!!! West Ham play him on the wing thats all.

Smith is on at least £50K a week at St.James’. I guess Leeds have learned their lesson by signing lousy players at ridicolous wages. Sadly I think Smudger will stay on our substitute bench and collect his wages until the contract runs out. He would be lucky to get half of that silly wages elsewere. And he is nowhere good enough to play in the Prem. His legs have gone long time ago.

Sears has 2 goals in about 3 or 4 years. I think people are reading too much into pards comments… in my opinion he might have been talking about any club not neccesaraly the irons

he would be a good signing could form a great partnership with carroll hes quick and skillful with bags of potential.. West ham play him on the wing because theyve got cole and piquionne up front..and also ther hasnt been many players this season that enrique hasnt had in his back pocket doesnt make him a bad player just means enrique is class.. I for one think we should sign him up.. Sears.. Larsson.. Bentley or Gradel and sell.. Smith(for gradel).. Guthrie.. Xisco..

I think Sears has put in some good performances this season for the Hammers, I dont think he is being helped out by being in a poor team and playing out of position.

The big question would be is he better than what we have?

At 21 years old, he certainly has his better years in front of him, but where would he rank amongst our current strikers and would he have more potential than our youth players?
    Better than Carroll – NO
Better than Best – NO, Sears has more PL experience
    Better than Strolla – Probably
    Better than McLoven – NO
Better than Ranger – Maybe, Sears has more PL experience
Better than Xisco – who knows, Sears has more PL experience

GEORDIE69 what qualifies you to say things like that what qualifications do you have and what (if any) standard of football did you play at. People are entitled to their opinion as long as they aren’t abusive.

Not all of you are mongs! Comments like Sears looks like a sh*t version of Ferguson! Howay man be serious, Ferguson is a promising winger playing in a team that was tearing the opposition to death! Sears is not a winger. Sears is a very promising centre forward. He would do a good job for someone up front! Would love to see him alongside Carroll! Most of you have opinions from either wiki, youtube or football manager!

think we should bid for albrighton instead, great prospect. especially if villa go down.

in; charlie adam, tom cleverley, marc albrighton, daniel sturridge, seamus coleman, sebastian larsson, christopher samba, patrick v.aanholt, hugo rodallega

out; campbell, perch, guthrie, routledge, r.taylor, smith (maybe, could have a bad affect on the team spirit), xisco, lovenkrands.

would be quite expensive, and it’s a bit far off, i know, but would make a great great team.

i dont understand show ppl keep on criticizing shola. given he is a donkey and he is the most unco-ordinated striker after peter crouch.

but for FFS when shola was the age of sears , he was banging 3 goals against barcelona. CUT HIM SOME SLACK !

I think we need cover for Tiote. Smith is washed up and I’d rather not have to put Barton there. I haven’t seen much of Gosling. Can he fill the role? If not, who are some available defensive center mids that you guys like?

Sears didn’t impress me at all last Wednesday, but I have to be honnest and say that it was the first time that I saw him play a game.

Perhaps GEORDIE69 know thinks I don’t know a thing about football, but I don’t care. Come on man a blog is something on which everybody can write. I don’t agree with everything I read here but I’ll never attack other members. If you don’t agree then react as an adult or don’t react at all if that is too much to ask.

    1. That was Sir Tino.

    2. Even if he was doing that then, he is not doing it now so why should anyone cut him some slack – he is not good enough and at 28, he aint gonna get any better.

Based on Wednesday’s performance I would prefere Hines. He actually caused some problems when he came on and looked the closest they had to being able to get any kind of consolation from the match. He’s 22 and one of those who hasn’t fulfilled all of his potential yet because of injuries a couple of years ago. He has a good pace and was at home presing high up the pitch. With only a handfull of prem starts he only has a couple of goals, so the big draw back would be another player who hasn’t proven he can score in the premiership. That said based on the current buying policy, thats exactly the type of player we are looking for.

apologies for three, but he did score one in the 3-1 game.

He might be useless but at times he has got us goals that has won us games and has stuck with us even if nobody wanted him.

Plus all the managers from robson to pardew have still kept him ( even though we loaned him to stoke).there has to be something clearly that the managers see that you, me and a layman does not see.

He is a donkey, but he is super shola.

Not good enough in my opinion. Would rather wait for vuckic and ranger to improve and claim their first team places. Also, why is everyone so happy to see Smith leave. I think he is quite an integral part of the dressing room. Would be happy to see him in some sort of coaching role or liaison position for new players and youngsters. Think he could be a great role model.
