Alan Pardew has said one of the reasons Newcastle have done so well since he came in, is that he’s had superb support from coaches Steve Stone and Willie Donachie.
Alan Pardew and Steve Stone – pointing in different directions?
Newcastle were linked heavily last week with former Leicester City and England U21 manager Peter Taylor, but Peter decided, for whatever reason, that the time was not right for him to come to Newcastle from Bradford.
And Alan Pardew said today there was no progress in his hunt for an Assistant Manager:
“Nothing really has happened. Obviously when things are going well you look at why it’s going well,”
“Steve Stone and Willie Donachie have done a superb job here under my stewardship, and I’m really pleased with them and I’m trying to think of somebody that’s going to fit in and not disrupt it.
“Finding that person, who’s not going to bring baggage with them because you know we’ve got a really good thing going on here at the moment is important.
“And when we’re doing well the necessity isn’t that great.”
If things are going so well, then there’s no reason to upset the apple cart surely, and maybe Alan should persevere for a while with Steve and Willie, if things are going so well, as they certainly seem to be.
Alan Pardew seems to have instantly formed an excellent working relationship with both Willie and Steve – that’s for sure – and it’s good to see and good for the club.
With Peter Beardsley running the Newcastle Reserves side, the club are not too short of coaches right now - at least not compared with when Chris Hughton was at the club near the end of his successful stewardship.
