Arsene Wenger May Be Back In For Sol Campbell

News today that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger may want  to take Sol Campbell back to Arsenal, for his third spell at the London club.

Sol Campbell – in action against Chelsea

Ask any sane person what the weakness of the Arsenal side is this season,  and they will tell you it’s the defense.

It’s there for anybody to see, because for a top side they leak far too many goals, and it seems that Arsene would like to bring Campbell back to the Gunners to help stabilize things.

We can only imagine that Arsene hasn’t seen some of the games Sol has played for Newcastle this seaosn, because he’s been a shadow of the player he once was, at least since  since he’s been on Tyneside.

The news – which would be an easy story to make up of course and it’s a Sunday –  is that Wenger is thinking over whether to bring back the 36-year-old defender as cover for his central defense.

We really don’t see Sol Campbell’s career going anywhere at Newcastle, with the likes of Coloccini, Steven Taylor and Mike Williamson ahead of Sol in the pecking order, so Sol could well leave Newcatsle in January.

And it may be Arsenal, or another club, maybe even in the Championship (Leicester City?),  might want to come in and take Sol for  a nominal fee.

    Off topic,

The sign of a good manager is one who learns from his mistakes. Sadly CH and Pardew persist in playing Perch and Smith and it really is suicide playing those 2, a has been proved time and again. If we do nothing else in this window, getting shot of those 2 would be a huge step in the right direction.

Yesterday was as embarrassing as Hereford all those years ago.

How terribly short sighted this is if its true.Sol just needs some games under his belt to get back into the groove. It’s no good leaving him on the bench every week – he needs to be playing regularly. Truth is he does not appear to be a part of the in group of professionals at the club, and therefore is not gaurenteed a first team spot. We need his strengh and experience at the heart of the defence. Colo is too squiffy and Willo not experienced enough. Taylor and Sol should be the perpetual central pairing with Collo playing in front of the back four in away games at least. I can see Sol going to another club and turning in great performances – and rightly rubbing our faces in the shite for our ignorant and short sighted view of things.
