Aston Villa Target Newcastle’s Joey Barton

News this morning in a number of the papers, that Aston Villa are interested in Newcastle’s Joey Barton.

Joey Barton – this player is going nowhere

And it seems that Aston Villa are trying to make some kind of swap deal for the Newcastle United midfielder.

The player Aston Villa don’t want any more seems to be Nigel Reo-Coker, so they are hoping that Newcastle are naive enough to take a player who cannot get his game for Aston Villa,  and make  a swap deal with Joey Barton, who has been on top form for Newcastle United this season.

In fact Joey has been one of the top midfielders in the Premier League so far this season.

But there’s no doubt that new manager Alan Pardew knows the players at Newcastle he wants to build the future side around,  and is already getting the powers that be at Newcatsle to sign them up, and Joey is one of those players.

Top youngsters Nile Ranger and Haris Vuckic have signed contracts through the summer of 2016,  as have center-backs Mike Williamson and Steven Taylor.

Newcastle have also signed Frenchman Ben Arfa on a full time deal through the summer of 2015, and the next two in line to get extended contracts on Tyneside will be both Joey Barton and Spanish left-back Jose Enrique.

A lot is made of Joey Barton’s fiery temperament, but the truth is, to Joey’s great credit, he’s managed to beat a lot of his demons over the last couple of years, and in most games this season he’s controlled himself amicably on the field, and there’s been no trouble at all off the field  for over two years now.

Of course the 1% of the time he didn’t do that this season got Joey 99% of the publicity he’s received – but that’s the gossip press in England for you – they have to sell papers somehow – and they don’t seem to mind how they do it.

But what’s new?

Joey Barton’s representative Willie McKay said today:

“A lot of clubs have shown interest but Joey is very happy at Newcastle. His ambition is to play for England again and he should do as he is the best midfielder in the country at the moment.”

While this story may be true, and it seems to be coming initially from from the Daily Mail, there is little chance Joey will leave Newcastle, but we’ll hear these stories again and again  until he signs along the dotted line on Tyneside.

It will be just like Steven Taylor, who  was linked with a club every other Sunday, until the 24 year-old local lad finally signed up in late December.

And of course Joey Barton is turning out to be a great player for Newcastle.

Typical anti-NUFC Daily Mail dross. No way must Joey be allowed to leave. In my opinion he should be club captain and provide much needed leadership on the field. Reo-Coker in exchange?
Who do Villa think they dealing with – the Roger Royal XI?

Joey is now loved here. Would be very surprised if he moved on. He seems to have a very good relationship with the fans. Just listen to the crowd when he takes corners at home games.

Get Joey signed up, and signed up fast Pardew. Hes our best player week in week out and is the only player providing consistent service to our strikers.

Joey is a credit to himself and the club.

Easily our BEST player by a mile so far this season, except for the occasional silly antics on field

Sign barton and get rid of nigel reo COCKER in the one go we all know mike ashley is a bit of a madman but houlier must think the whole club is gone stark raving bonkers why would joey leave the biggest club in the northeast to join the 2nd biggest team in birmingham and therefore give up challenging for top eight with an ambitious club and head straight into a relegation dogfight cause wether they know it or not their in one and if you ask me they dont exactly have the type of players in midfield required to pull out of it . piss off houlier look at a player at a small club they might be interested but were not.

There are about 5 good players in our best 11 that are priceless to Newcastle United. When Joey Plays we are awsome – He cares so much and never gives up . The rollocking Nolan Got from Joey against west ham shows how much he is Black and White . If we sell Joey We all may aswell shut up shop and go and watch Gateshead !!!!! We always have about 3 Newspapers Stiring the Crap every Week The Mail the Mirror and One other they need to be told to go forth and Multiply !!!!!!!!!!!!!! anyway why would joey want to play for a Midlands Club that He Banged a Howitzer Against ?? He May Be a Bit Daft But he aint That Daft !!!!

The only thing that worries me about Joey signing long term is that he is always played out of position and he has eluded to it in the past.

Reo Cokey is out of contract in the summer and will walk away so even FatAsh can spot the holes in that bit of nonsense. …Wish I could get paid to write such stories.
