Check Tiote Appeal Against Suspension Is Rejected

As we expected, Newcastle’s appeal against Cheick Tiote’s three match suspension has been turned down.

Cheick Tiote – 3 match ban stands

At a Regulatory Commission hearing today, a claim for wrongful dismissal from Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tiote was rejected.

As a result, Tiote’s three match suspension will remain in place, and he will now miss the games at Sunderland, at home to Spurs and away at Fulham, and he will be huge loss to the Newcastle side.

Tiote was shown a red card during Newcastle’s FA Cup Third Round tie against Stevenage on Saturday on 8th January.

These suspensions are hardly ever overturned, unless there has been an obvious mistake by the referee, and that didn’t look to be the case on Saturday, and we gave the appeal only a 5% chance of success – at best.

So this verdict is hardly surprising – unfortunately.

I think this is a bit ridiculous to be honest. The FA is the most biased organisation in the footballing world.

Inch perfect tackle (admittedly hard), the player who he took down even said he didn’t touch him – utter joke.

Great, there’s a smack in the face for you.

It was a reckless challenge though, you can’t leap into a tackle like that these days, the law says any challenge that could ‘potentially’ injure an opposition player can be a red card offence.

I’m not suprised, just increases the need for us to get in Larsson I hope as if not, it’ll be either Routledge on the right, Barton in the middle, or Smith back in the middle and Barton on the right…
Larsson on the right, Barton, Nolan and Jonas would really only feel like a midfield capable of overpowering the unwashed.

i dont get this the referee admitted he was wrong their player said tiote never touched him and thought red was harsh and Graham poll said it was a yellow and they still say it was red what is the point of the reviewing system if the fa dont recinded decisions

Even if it got put down for a yellow he would have been out for 2 games for 10 yellows.

It’s a big loss for sure but Tiote must learn some control. He seems to pick up yellow cards quite easily.

This is starting to sound like American football. Bump a guy in the head and you may be find tens of thousands of dollars. Some troll at the FA was likely rubbing his hands to get Tiote for his 10th card and when Tiote beat the clock on New Year’s, this became the venue for FA to get him off the pitch. Cheick needs to get with Barton and find the fine line that keeps him out of any more trouble than one would expect.

John Barnes said on espn coverage that

“any midfielder who is going to stop tackling like that for fear of being sent off should hang up his boots now”

    Exactly.

Not only that, feels more of an injustice that Ben Arfa was sidelined for a double leg break horror challenge and there wasnt even a free kick given.

Tiote said himself – I didn’t touch the man I only touched the ball.

The opposition player admitted to Kevin Nolan that Tiote didn’t touch him.

Video evidence shows he didn’t touch the man.

    It is absolutely ridiculous decision!

You are kidding yourself saying it’s a wrong decision. The FA have to set examples. It’s technically a fair tackle but looks violent, they had to uphold it. As Nufc.com stresses, you have to question pardew’s decision in bringing him on.

Boater button it. It didn’t look violent, this was the perfect opportunity for the F.A to clarify what is a malicious, cowards tackle (Gerrard the twits) and what is a honest, robust, sporting tackle (Cheicks). That would have been an example to set, however here we are again perplexed by the benighted imbeciles that govern our sport.

Dam FA! They had to take our best player out. So from now on I am guessing there is no such thing as a clean slide tackle? Exactly what Tiote was.

Bullsh*t! De Jong tackle on Ben Arfa was ‘perfectly fine’. Tiote who didn’t even touch the guy stands as a 3 match ban. What utter rubbish from the FA. Absolutely gutted. And wish Jonas still struggling and no update on the Larsson deal. Think we are gonna have to go with:

    Guthrie — Barton—- Nolan— Routledge

I think it was a great tackle but Tiote had 2 feet off the ground and that is what the F.A. have probably looked at. TBH if we do not get Larrson i would not be to disappointed. If Larrson can play for the Brummies for ten thousand pounds a week then why should NUFC pay double if that to be true???? Larrson will be swapping for a far superior club and should be running up here to wear the shirt. If that is not the case then forget him. He is no Solano so he can fox trot oscar lol. Look for someone who wants to play for us not just come to double their wages. We do not need money grabbing gits we have had enough of them at our club having said that the deal may be held up for other reasons who knows.
