Larsson Financial Demands Said To Scupper Newcastle Deal

5:28 pm, Wednesday, January 12th, 2011 by Ed Harrison · 102 Comments

Sky Sports is reporting that Seb Larsson’s financial demands have put off Newcastle United.

Seb Larsson financial demands putting off suitors

There were some hints of that even yesterday but today, the latest news on Sky Sports just a few minutes ago, was that both Newcastle and Sunderland have now ended their interest in the Birmingham winger.

Seb was on £10K/week at Birmingham, so heaven only  knows what he was asking for, but we suspect that Newcastle would have been willing to go to around £20K/week for the Swedish winger, but not much higher than that.

There will perhaps be little sympathy for the player on Tyneside, because the Newcastle United club have been taken to the cleaners more than once by very mediocre players, asking for and getting ridiculous wages to move to Newcastle.

So if Seb doesn’t want to come to Newcastle for a decent wage – then so be it.

Gone are the days when Newcastle will pay out daft wages, and how many millions have Newcastle wasted doing that these last 15 years or so?      The  answer is an awful lot -  millions and millions.

And it now especially true now that the UEFA financial fair play rules are due to kick in at the start of next season, when European football clubs are essentially being forced to balance their books, and the wage bill is by far the biggest expenditure with PL clubs.

Since Seb becomes a free agent in the summer, there may be a chance that Newcastle could sign him to a pre-contract agreement this month, and then sign him for nothing in the summer, but we think Newcastle have probably been put off by the player’s greed.

So it looks like Seb Larsson will not become a Newcastle player.

That’s really unfortunate for him – that’s all we have to  to say.

We’ll have to wait and see which other player(s) Newcastle have in the transfer pipeline.

Comments welcome.

I told you guys about this two days ago. I was never convinced we’d sign him. If he can’t agree terms on a contract with Brum and Brum can offer Bentley 70k a week we were hardly going to agree terms with him were we?

I would much rather have Zaini or El-Arabi anyway.

    Off topic, check out this site for a free MacBook Pro, iPad or iPhone 4;

Must be gutting to only have £20k offered to you like.

  • 3 liamdee100 // Jan 12, 2011 at 5:35 PM

glad to hear that, not because he is a bad player but because he obviously doesnt wnt to come to newcastle otherwise he would have accepted the contract offered.

    good ridons!!!

  • 4 daneevz // Jan 12, 2011 at 5:36 PM

forget him it ovious money talks with him we wasted money on crap players b4 (luque, xisco even kluivert list can go on

  • 5 colwell // Jan 12, 2011 at 5:37 PM

Good, we don`t need another RB anyway lol.

  • 6 coolcatcarter89 // Jan 12, 2011 at 5:37 PM

Indifferent. Get Benny on the blower to his ol’ pal Benzema at Madrid! :D There’s enough colligative substance there for a story right?

  • 7 Shot Bru // Jan 12, 2011 at 5:42 PM

Larsson is mediocre anyway….not much better than we already have. Better off spending the money and scouting time on a partner to play around Carroll.

  • 8 RossGellar // Jan 12, 2011 at 5:43 PM

I’m proud of Newcastle for telling two players where to go now.

    What I wouldn’t do for 20,000 a week.

  • 9 Thump // Jan 12, 2011 at 5:44 PM

Wonder if I can get £20k a week… I mean, Smudge does and I can probably do the same job without the cards.

  • 10 colwell // Jan 12, 2011 at 5:46 PM

I`m glad, my posts all along I have said I don`t want him here, don`t rate him. Squad player yeah, but we need a RW that can come in he deffo is not a winger.

  • 11 gorskino10 // Jan 12, 2011 at 5:53 PM

I was wondering Larsson was holding out to be a Free Agent, he just wants ALOT of money, thats why he said he wanted to stay at Brum because he hoped they would panic with his maybe leaving and offer him a BIG contract. Do we want a player thats there just for his paycheck, atm we have Xisco is doing this BUT i have to say he WANTS to play and prove himself and you could see that at Villa when he lasted played. After his less than impressive proformance yesterday and more worryingly the way he just doesnt cross anything he just finds a simply pass all the time the only time he crossed was setplays. im glad i hope WE dont crumble and give in to his demand end. doesnt deserve to be earning alot at us he is a squad player at best if he came here. Andy should be of atleast double Sebs wages if he isnt theres something wrong.

  • 12 Irish Geordie1 // Jan 12, 2011 at 5:54 PM

to be honest im disappointed. 20k isnt crazy money id say 30k fair enough

  • 13 balubas1 // Jan 12, 2011 at 6:02 PM

    Is this confirmed? Sources?

  • 14 listie // Jan 12, 2011 at 6:06 PM

Birmingham offered him an extension and 18K a week, so he is already up on that greedy sod springs to mind

  • 15 Tiote4PM // Jan 12, 2011 at 6:11 PM

Pleased about this. NEVER a player to be here for the long term and would just be a filler.

Would rather ‘make-do’ then waste good money and wages on a mercenary. We will stay in the prem this season and then we can buy some quality. And by quality I mean technique, pace and the ability to score goals – not 1 of the 3.

We CAN attract the right players for the right money with the right attitude. Pleased that NUFC are now being run like a business – this sometimes may hurt but at least we wont be the next Leeds, Portsmouth, Crystal Palace – insert next team here.

    Well done people.

  • 16 Rem // Jan 12, 2011 at 6:19 PM

10 k extra a week is half a mill a season, so is a pretty big step up.

on 20k/week he would be getting over a million a year, so its not like hes on a low wage!!! lol

  • 17 JP...from The Rock // Jan 12, 2011 at 6:23 PM

Greedy bugger! If he was after the money he can go screw himself. It’s a shame as we can do with someone that actually knows how to cross the ball! Wasn’t this the guy that said he was a life long Newcastle fan!??? Can someone please answer me this? I think I might be confused with another long term target.

  • 18 Edd Case // Jan 12, 2011 at 6:24 PM

People keep banging on about Zaini or El-Arabi etc etc but what do you think these guys will want for pay?

If we wont even stretch to 20k a week for Larsson, who else do you think we’ll sign?

I reckon the average Prem player wage must be 30k a week, so Larsson MUST have wanted more or less that, not the 20k reported.

Maybe it’s other demands, rather than just basic salary.
    Assist bonuses?
    League placing bonuses?

I dunno, something not right if we can’t afford to bring in Larsson…

One good idea Pardew might think of is getting shot of Smith and his obscene salary – then we could maybe get two Larsson-type players in (wage wise)

  • 19 Jawdboy // Jan 12, 2011 at 6:27 PM

Im exiled down in Brum and all the Blues lads that live round here and go to St Andrews every week dont rate him at all – they say hes a poor mans Ryan Taylor! Far too defensive and decent delivery/set pieces is all thats going for him

  • 20 The Entertainers // Jan 12, 2011 at 6:31 PM

I hope we have something else in the pipe line if Seb isn’t coming.
Seemed a strange transfer, yes he’s quality, but at the moment Barton is playing out of his skin at the moment and if we need another winger we could do with a skilful and speedy winger.
Would rather have a playmaker in the middle of the park, blackpools Adams or Taarbet at QPR. I dare say there’s others who I’m not aware of but a Van der Vaart would do haha!

  • 21 JP...from The Rock // Jan 12, 2011 at 6:33 PM

Edd Case – Smith leaving would be ideal and I would be the quickest one to pop open the bubbly but sadly/agonizingly Alan Pardew has already told the press that “Smith is going nowhere!”. I really don’t know what that guy does in the dressing room to keep everyone happy but it is turning it a rather big mystery. hmmmmm…so far every manager since Fat Sam has backed him and Shola every time and they are both obviously shit! Anything but a footballer. I might be tempted to keep Shola as a squad player but definitely not Smith!! Ohh Nooo Way!!

  • 22 carrollsinger // Jan 12, 2011 at 6:33 PM

Not much to say everyones saying it greedy simple as but would like to see Ryan taylor on the wing he’s just like larsson

  • 23 Shot Bru // Jan 12, 2011 at 6:41 PM

JP….You’re thinking about Skjelbred…the lifelong NUFC fan.

  • 24 JP...from The Rock // Jan 12, 2011 at 6:47 PM

@The Entertainers – We should have gotten Van der Vaart years ago the same goes for Saviola when he was available for peanuts. Imagine how much those tow would improve our squad now! Although Saviola is passed it now, not the player he once was but he would have done much better than what we had at the time. He’s still miles better than Shola Ameobi that’s for sure! I wouldn’t go for him now though nor Martins. I can’t believe some deluded fan was mentioning Owen!! WTF! Where was this fan when him and Martins sent as tumbling down to the Championship only to bugger off and abandon “the best fans in the world” – their actual words! No thanx they can rot for all I care. We need flair and a skillful passer and crosser of the ball. Someone young, strong, quick, good technique and can beat his man. I bet that’s what most managers want but there are so many untapped spots for quality players that’s it’s easy to find.

  • 25 JP...from The Rock // Jan 12, 2011 at 6:49 PM

@Shot Bru – Ahhhhh that’s the one!! :) Thanx man…was he Norwegian? Anyway what the hell happened with that guy and why don’t we follow that up? Is he really good enough for Newcastle?

  • 26 Moreno // Jan 12, 2011 at 6:50 PM

Truly amazing. In a poll ran acouple of days ago, 76% of fans thought he would be a great signing. Now 99% of fans didn’t want him anyway.

Of course, everybody said a couple of days ago that he was mediocre and they didn’t want him anyway, don’t know what I am on about

  • 27 GeordieGerman // Jan 12, 2011 at 6:53 PM

I’ll do it for 2,500 a week. I’m about 2 times his age, 1/4 as fast, Can run about 1/6 of his distance and might manage a pass that lands somewhere in the penalty box from ten meters. Doesn’t sound much but look at the savings… :-)

  • 28 G // Jan 12, 2011 at 6:54 PM

I still think he would be an excellent acquisition for the club, and we should maybe go back and have a look in the summer, as my theory is at 26 he knows the big payday will come for a bosman type transfer, and it will probs be the last chance he has before he hits his 30′s and becomes a less attractive prospect.

  • 29 G // Jan 12, 2011 at 6:55 PM

GG @ 27. What size boots do you wear?

  • 30 balubas1 // Jan 12, 2011 at 6:57 PM

I’ll try again. IS THIS CONFIRMED? It coul be bollocks. But it seems to be some problems since he hasnt signed yet… And for how long is the transfer window open?

  • 31 JP...from The Rock // Jan 12, 2011 at 7:01 PM

@Moreno – I think it was because most fans welcome an additional player that can add something- depth/good crosses. I was up for it and one of the yes please voters, but after discovering the reasons to the delay I too lean on the majority of fans opinion and couldn’t care less now. We have had our fair share of money grabbing mercenaries. No more thank you very much. I just hope this was the real reason to the hold up and not because Ashley won’t pay a few pennies more. If it’s the sensible approach then great but if the player has a good point and is exactly what we need in critical times (like now) then I would have to seriously consider it. I personally think it was down to a Relegation Clause that Fat Mike included in the contract.

  • 32 nden85 // Jan 12, 2011 at 7:01 PM

20k is a bad offer considering what some bench warmers in this league are getting paid. smith? bridge? given? dyer? loads of players like that who are getting paid millions a year more. agree with not paying over the odds any more, but surely we could stretch to 30k to get a player who can offer big andy the service he needs to score 25 goals a season

  • 33 GeordieGerman // Jan 12, 2011 at 7:03 PM

    G, 11. gizajob.

balubas1, Don’t know if it’s confirmed or not but would think that him playing yesterday was pretty much a confirmation. Transfer window is open till midnight 31 Jan.

  • 34 colwell // Jan 12, 2011 at 7:04 PM

Carroll is on 23k a week, Larsson shouldn`t be on no where near that. Maybe due to Ben Arfa and Gosling coming back they see Larsson as a squad player and therefore have a certain wage cap for such player.
Suprised people thought he would be a great signing, Tiote and Ben Arfa were GREAT signings Larsson is a million miles away from their class!

  • 35 wynsleap // Jan 12, 2011 at 7:04 PM

No great loss from what I’ve seen.
If a few more quid is his prime motivation let him go back to the wonderful Brum – we don’t need players like that.
I only hope ALL of our efforts, however, haven’t been put into this target as we need to get going and spread the net wider, quicker and more effectively.
We can’t afford to get to the end of this window without at least two decent acquisitions.

  • 36 JP...from The Rock // Jan 12, 2011 at 7:05 PM

Nice 1 Geordie German! :) Although I don’t think many fans will keep their pennies in their pockets if you’re up for a corner. We wouldn’t tolerate that! You would make Strola Ameobi look fantastic and they’ll renew his contract! Oh Noooo!!!

  • 37 Shot Bru // Jan 12, 2011 at 7:05 PM

JP… He is Norwegian…he’s been linked with Celtic in this window…not seen a great deal of him myself to make an honest judgement as to whether he could do a job for us.

Just heard something interesting on BBC radio Scotland’s Sportsound show that Rangers, Blackpool and Newcastle United have representatives at the Dundee United v Motherwell game…one of the pundits reckon they’re watching David Goodwillie…

  • 38 GeordieGerman // Jan 12, 2011 at 7:09 PM

@Shot bru -Interesting but our scouts are checking out a David GoodWHAT!!?? LOL I wouldn’t want to put that lads name on the back of my strip!!! hahahaha what a name! I just hope we’re not wasting our time slacking because it’s essential we invest in this window. If that Goodwillie (LMAO) fella is good enough then at least bring him on loan but we gotta do something!!

  • 41 GeordieGerman // Jan 12, 2011 at 7:12 PM

  • 43 JP...from The Rock // Jan 12, 2011 at 7:15 PM

@GeordieGerman – Hahaha my granny that’s half blind and crippled is faster than Shola!! How he, Xisco and Smith are still here is beyond me. What a waste of salary. We could have used that money to give a greedy prick like Larsson a loan deal and see if he’s worth it. Them three players are just stealing money from the club before our very eyes. Some sympathy goes to Shola perhaps as he did score against the scum and deserves to stay until summer just for that.

  • 44 Toon1978 // Jan 12, 2011 at 7:16 PM

Getting HBA and Gosling into the first 11 is something we can look forward to. Having them two will give us more flair and more pace in midfield. Larrson……who is he anyway. Forget about him and move on. Let him be Birmingham’s worry. Don’t need greedy players at the club we have had enough of them at our club.

  • 45 Shot Bru // Jan 12, 2011 at 7:16 PM

Haha JP…He sure has got a radical name…probably got a hard time at school…at least he should be able to look after himself..

  • 46 JP...from The Rock // Jan 12, 2011 at 7:20 PM

@GeordieGerman – Hey come to think about it you’re right it could work in someone’s favour…good thinking mate :P

Imagine what a birds reaction would be the first time he mentions his full name. I am surprised that guy is a footballer and not a porn star. He was either a hit at school with the ladies or is traumatized by the experience. Either way if he plays super footie sign him up!!! It would be funny to hear Andy Gray of Sky Sports mentioning his name in a match though. LOL

  • 47 Shot Bru // Jan 12, 2011 at 7:20 PM

Might impress the ladies if you had goodwillie on your undies hey GG haha.

    Very true Shot Bru :)

  • 49 Moreno // Jan 12, 2011 at 7:25 PM

I live in Dundee lads. Goodeillie is ok…..in the SPL. Standard of football up here is shocking and he is facing centre backs like Michael Duberry (who is a key starting 11 player at local SPL rivals St. Johnstone)
Signing players from SPL isn’t the answer. Look at Kris Boyd, best player in SPL last year, can’t buy a goal at the boro

  • 50 GeordieGerman // Jan 12, 2011 at 7:26 PM

I like Shola, canny bloke and has always been loyal. But is that loyalty out of necessity? Has anyone ever wanted to buy him?

    Agreed Moreno

  • 53 Shot Bru // Jan 12, 2011 at 7:31 PM

Moreno…what have you done to deserve to end up in Dundee :-)

  • 54 chuck // Jan 12, 2011 at 7:31 PM

Excuse me for asking Ed. but do you know for sure Larsson was getting ten grand a week at Brum., or are you assuming, as that`s been the price bandied about ?
And then not being privy to the negatiations, to assume Newcastle were offering around twenty thousand, followed by an accusation of greed on Larssons part for not accepting the assumed amount.
Hell thats a lot of assumption based on nothing substantial, simply off the top of your head.
Look if you are going to make accusations of greed about anyone, it might be a good idea to get the facts of the matter before you throw them out to the public.
Like a number of Newcastle fans you seem to take it personally, when players either want to leave or turn down an offer from the club, hey it`s just business.
It`s not as if the guy was Chopped liver, he`s an ex Arsenal player who has represented his country over twenty times, if in fact he is only getting ten grand, then in this time in this league he deserves more.
And with Ashley controlling the pursestrings, i doubt if he was offering much.

  • 55 GeordieGerman // Jan 12, 2011 at 7:32 PM

  • 72 alip123 // Jan 12, 2011 at 9:59 PM

I still don’t understand why so many people give Shola stick – he’s not the best but he’s been at the club for ages, and he’s scored 7 goals this season. Since the Arsenal win he’s been playing with an injury, so give him some slack, will you?

  • 73 247FOOTBALLHEAVEN // Jan 12, 2011 at 10:05 PM

Come on guys!!! Every player is trying to get the best wages he can, just like all of us in the normal working world. Whilst I acknowledge we should not pay crazy wages, I also fear we are not offering enough to attract players to take the team to the next level. All we hear is this player earns too much, get rid of him, or we don’t need him he wants too much money. THAT’S FOOTBALL TODAY, simple! If you don’t pay it you accept what we are all moaning about on here…that we are not good enough. I think there is a danger we are all being brainwashed and accepting what the club tells us. It appears we are all now happy to accept mediocrity? We are the 3rd biggest club in the country (fan base), yet we are shopping around for 1m pound players at the end of their contracts or on free deals…we don’t even have a first team coach!!! I for one think it is sad what has and is happening to the club I love. No money they say??? How long now have they said that for now? 4 years? Make it 5, 6 or even 7 because it won’t change under this board…ever!

  • 74 JP...from The Rock // Jan 12, 2011 at 10:06 PM

@alip123 – I would like to but I can’t I am afraid. Shola Ameobi is always injured. Very injury prone! Yes he has been okay this season and maybe the one before but definitely rubbish since he’s been here. Not the future of the club by any means. Carroll has shown Ameobi how to take his chance, hell even Best has and even he’s above Shola in the pecking order!

  • 75 JP...from The Rock // Jan 12, 2011 at 10:16 PM

@ 247FOOTBALLHEAVEN – I understand your point and it is hard to watch how our beloved club struggle to fork out 1M on players or just a slight increase in a players wage. It pisses me off big time! But…on the other hand I prefer it in a way. Under Freddy Shepherd the club lost loads millions and millions and only recently we finished paying that debt. We still owe Mike Ashley 100M and he has kept us afloat despite relegation (of course thanx to hard work from Mr Hoots it wouldn’t have been possible). I think we’re heading in the right direction. If Ashley is serious on building the Arsenal model here at St James’ then I am all for it. In the not too distant future today’s big spenders ie. Man City will suffer from the new Uefa rules and we will be okay because we have been cautious now. By then we will be debt free and on a profit. Then there will be no excuses about no money available and we could sign big (thanks to the huge income from sold merchandise) if needed but I doubt it would be necessary.

  • 76 GeordieGerman // Jan 12, 2011 at 10:25 PM

247FOOTBALLHEAVEN, Ian Holloway paid £1 million plus for 12 players. What does that tell you about big spending? It’s not money it’s heart that counts.

  • 77 toonbarmy // Jan 12, 2011 at 10:41 PM

Spot on Geordie German, blackpool have shown this season that u don’t have to spend 30m to survive in the prem, I would be happy with us signin cover for jose, ziani on a permanent deal, dos santos on loan on view to a permanent and hoy our hat in the ring for vela on loan so dos santos has a bit of mexican company but I guess I may be asking a bit to much as this would cost between 5-7million and ashley may not be willin to spend that much

@Toonbarmy – I agree on Ziani as he looks like he’ll improve the team and on Vela but not on Dos Santos as he’s not strong enough for this league. Too lightweight and easily topples over, similar to our very own spidey. We don’t need more of that. Something similar to Ziani would be great and there are many more like him around.

  • 79 Robby Bobson // Jan 12, 2011 at 10:54 PM

Well its quite obvious that Larsson is asking for quite abit, otherwise birmginham would have signed him up months ago.

Obviously rates himself quite highly and if say for example he wants parity with the likes of ben arfa who cant be on that much, then no thanks.

Hes a decent player probably used in squad rotation (id say we have 5-6 starters and the rest are up for grabs) so if hes asking for too much then we are right to call it off.

  • 80 toonbarmy // Jan 12, 2011 at 10:56 PM

@ JP – the reason I would like dos santos in as I agree he is quite lightweight but he would bring pace to the side and the ability of counter attackin football something we haven’t been able to do due to lack of pace, ziani looks amazin and vela is someone who would thrive of big andy’s knock ons

  • 81 JP...from The Rock // Jan 12, 2011 at 11:09 PM

We have Routledge and he doesn’t lack pace. It’s his football brain that appears to hit a wall when it gets to the final third and that lets him down every time. We have a similar problem on the other end with Spidey. He has the right ideas but his lack of skill is awful as he always loses balance, his first touch is poor, his passing is poor and his delivery is questionable to put it nicely. I feel he offers more than Routledge because of his effort and neat combinations with Enrique down the flank.

Cutting it short we need better players on our wings desperately. I agree that those you mentioned would improve on what we already have. We have to be quick and grab a good player soon as good wing play is what we lack every game. If we could deliver accurate balls to Carroll’s head every match we’ll win most matches with ease. Ben Arfa long term is just what we needed and more of the same and I’ll be delighted.

  • 82 JP...from The Rock // Jan 12, 2011 at 11:13 PM

Barton is doing a fabulous job on the right now but I think he can easily do the same in the middle. But I would leave it as it is now as it’s working great. Though we have no depth and natural skill on the wings and that’s very worrying.

WE NEED A NEW NOBBY SOLANO!! :)

  • 83 belfastgeordie87 // Jan 12, 2011 at 11:15 PM

moreno,ur right about the standard in the spl i follow the gers, davie weir 41 plays every week and dosent even break a sweat lol

  • 84 GAZ09 // Jan 12, 2011 at 11:16 PM

I think we should try again for Victor Moses quality player, and also Charlie Adam after another great show from him tonight!

  • 85 247FOOTBALLHEAVEN // Jan 12, 2011 at 11:17 PM

Thanks JP, a great reply, very well made but again and with 100% respect your reply is typical of what I am reading from fans today. But, do you really think they are interested in building the club? We are not debt free as we owe Ashley? In that respect we are in the same situation really, just we owe him and not Barclays!!! GeordieGerman, sorry but are we to aspire to match Blackpool now??? Blackpool get 16,000 fans, we get over 50,000. So we should be striving to be better than them I think! MY heart is with NUFC, always has been, just not sure Ashley’s is???

  • 86 toonbarmy // Jan 12, 2011 at 11:25 PM

I understand where u are coming from and spidey can frustrate as it doesn’t matter if am at SJP or watchin on tv I’m always wanting him to shoot or run at the full back but his contribution is more than u may give him credit for, Routledge. Frustrates me more as he does have bundles of pace but doesn’t use it to his advantage, barton in the centre would cause many teams nightmares as he would cover the entire pitch but I hope ziani is here in time for the derby, here’s hoping

  • 87 Robby Bobson // Jan 12, 2011 at 11:32 PM

    247FOOTBALLHEAVEN

“We are not debt free as we owe Ashley?”

Well its against the club, but I think his plan is to ask for it back when he sells the thing as part of the buyout price.

And I think with what you are saying about wages, we seem to offer fair wages, we got Hatem Ben Arfa for 5 years which surprised me we managed to agree wages. We gave gosling wages Everton wouldn’t. We got Sol campbell in whne Hughton really wanted him.

The real test for Ashley though, and will see how much he wants us to succeed is the renewal for Joses and Bartons contracts, who if rumours are true are both 50k+. Both players mind Ashley brought.

  • 88 JP...from The Rock // Jan 12, 2011 at 11:42 PM

    @247FOOTBALLHEAVEN – Thanks mate :)

Personally I don’t trust Ashley one bit. Not after what he did to Chris Hughton. That left me and half the world in shock. But hey I was willing to buy into the “manager with more experience” crap. When he got Pardew in his place -after his only ‘expereince’ over Hughton was a worse managerial record- I thought this fat bast**d is taking the piss! But hey what can you do I thought. Credit to Mr Pardew whom so far has done pretty well. Needs more time till I can fully judge him but doing okay so far.

What I am getting at with all this is that I believe that Ashley sees Pardew as our manager. He will stick with him. He will slowly and wisely give Pardew some transfer money to develop the team he believes will take us forward. They will scour the globe for the most promising youngsters and nurture them into Nufc stars of the future. They will not pay mega money to any players until there is no debt. They will tie down the best players we have to long term contracts and form the long term backbone of the team.

That’s what I believe is the Fat Bast**ds plan, but then again you never know with this guy do ya. If he actually pulls this ‘Arsenal’ model off then we’ll be top of the table someday It could happen and if not…it was fun to dream :)

If we get any of these players I’ll be over the moon:

  • 89 Brutooon // Jan 12, 2011 at 11:48 PM

Give him the 20k wages! at least he can pass the ball

Alan Smith got a 60k wages and doing nothing

Xisco is on a 50k wages and where is here?

We do pay some silly wages to poor footballer but then refuse to play extra for a GOOD footballer

  • 90 Robby Bobson // Jan 12, 2011 at 11:50 PM

Brutoo….where did you get 20k from?

Im pretty sure the burmmies would have given him that months ago if thats what he wanted!

  • 91 GeordieGerman // Jan 12, 2011 at 11:52 PM

I’m a bit worried about Ben Arfa and Gosling. I mean if you jump of a wall and break your leg?

  • 92 JP...from The Rock // Jan 12, 2011 at 11:55 PM

Spot on Brutoon. Though I like to believe that Fat Ash has learned from his mistakes. It’s very frustrating when you know that a certain player would be awesome for the team and just that lil’ extra in his wage would get him signing on the dotted line, only to see the club refuse to improve their offer. It’s a sensible approach but a very tedious one that will benefit us in the long run.

Though being in the difficult scenario we’re in a minor investment now would ensure we are safe in the premiership this season and start penny saving in the summer, spending wisely. I think 2 players now and we’re safe from the drop. Here’s to hoping.

  • 93 GeordieGerman // Jan 12, 2011 at 11:58 PM

I think Ashley should offer a decent wage, no more than £40 thousand and then bonuses the lowest for PL survival, the highest being if we win the champions league. That will make them play.

  • 94 toonbarmy // Jan 12, 2011 at 11:58 PM

Every time something is going right at the toon and ashley is quiet he likes to shake us like a snow globe because he knows when he either makes us happy(permanent deal for ben arfa) or make us mad (hughton’s sacking) he knows the next home game we will pack SJP to voice our anger or delight, he thrives on messing with our hearts and minds as he knows he is always one step ahead as he is the 1st to know what is happening at the club.

  • 95 JP...from The Rock // Jan 13, 2011 at 12:01 AM

    Interesting theory Toonbarmy.

  • 96 Brutooon // Jan 13, 2011 at 1:55 AM

Seriously guys, Alan Smith is on 60k and done nothing?

  • 97 Sgt. Heagerty // Jan 13, 2011 at 4:22 AM

piss off the lad, he is not better then jonas or routledge, sure he may be a better crosser but he doesnt have the ball skills either of our wingers have. Dont think he would link up well with simp or jose. He was m.i.a. for long spells in that carling cup tie v west hap. Dead ball specialist we dont need, we have the best in the business joey barton, speaking of which, he needs to have been signed to a bumper yesterday, give the lad whatever he wants just get him signed for 5. Hell he can have half my house if it will get him to stay. If ashley lets any of our 1st teamers leave that have gelled so well together i dont know if ill be able to take it. Im talking bout, Colo, enrique, simp, willo, s taylor, barton, jonas, tiote, hba, carrol, ranger, best, harps, krul, gosling, and even guthrie as i think he is for the future and was our best midfielder last season in the championship….

dont sweat larson lads, he was just a cheap way for ashley to say hes investing in the squad and pushing for a europa league spot, open your wallet you fat bastard we are in 8th place after the new year, with 2 upgrades we could scrap for europe instead of scrapping for relegation…..

  • 98 Ericles // Jan 13, 2011 at 8:52 AM

Well summed up Sgt. Heagerty. Good to read your common sense again. Happy new year!

  • 99 Lynxie // Jan 13, 2011 at 9:16 AM

    Sgt. Heagerty:

Guthrie was our best midfielder last season? Kevin Nolan would argue that one with you, as would Jonas. You obviously werent at Derby or Swansea where they passed him to death. he is a one paced inconsistent plodder who gets a pass accuracy of no more than 25%. Not good enough at this level.

  • 100 chuck // Jan 13, 2011 at 3:12 PM

Watched Larsson play against the Hammers, not that outstanding a game.
He has good positional sense, moving into space, tracks back a lot and can put in a decent cross.
On saying that,he`s no Nobby Solano, but would have been a decent acquisition, better than Routledge.
Too bad we dont know what his wage demands are.
    Geordie German
Are you a frustrated accountant or a football fan ?
And just what do you think you would have for a forty grand wage cap ?
A second tier team, or a constant fight to avoid relegation, even Ashley understands that !

  • 101 chuck // Jan 13, 2011 at 3:45 PM

IMO we should be going for the best young wingback/ right winger, to appear since Gareth Bale (who plays the same role on the left)
Talking about Seamus Coleman @ Everton, bought for sixty grand.
Moyes gave an him his opportunity due to injuries in the side and impressed so much has been a regular since, anyone who has watched Everton lately can attest to the fact he makes things happen, scores and sets up goals.
The kid would be ideal for us, but gotta get him before he attracts the big sides (and being some of our fans are concerned about Ashleys fortune would`nt want to break the bank)
Both he and either a winger or RB who can bring the ball up (he plays both roles) and we have a balanced side, with Toro and Jonas on the left.
Tiote sitting in front of the back four.
Joey and BA creating in the middle, Carroll up front, we could platoon Joey and Nolan, Tiote and Gosling, etc.
Get rid of some of the deadwood, by replacing them one by one, bringing in more quality until we have at least two decent players for each position .
But then what do i know ?

  • 102 max // Jan 13, 2011 at 5:48 PM

like i said, it just become a rumour…
