Newcastle manager Alan Pardew will meet with owner Mike Ashley today, to discuss a couple of possible moves in the transfer market.
Karim Ziani – on agenda today with Mike Ashley?
We think one of those moves is for Birmingham City’s Seb Larsson, but with Seb playing last night in the the Carling Cup semi-final for Birmingham, it’s getting to be a rather strange transfer scenario with the Swedish International.
However, Seb did have a good game last night, and demonstrated what an excellent crosser of a ball he is, which is one reason the Magpies are interested.
But another player who has been constantly linked with Newcastle in the last couple of weeks is Algerian Karim Ziani of Wolfsburg.
The reports suggest that the player is rated at £8M, but we cannot think Newcastle would be too interested at that price, although some reports claim he he could be available for as little as £2M – take your pick.
Karim was transferred to Wolfsburg in July of 2009 from Marseilles for £8M, which is where that figure comes from, and he signed a four-year contract with the Bundesliga side.
The 28-year-old 60 times capped creative Algerian midfielder now wants leave Wolfsburg, and he has already been offered to several other Premier League clubs, according to prominent reports in Germany.
Ziani is a little bit like Ben Arfa as he’s said to have had arguments with team-mates, and numerous run-ins with the coaching staff too.
Oh my – is this the type of player we need at Newcastle?
But the reports are that manager Steve McClaren is open to offers to take the player on loan, so that would probably be Newcastle’s best option.
And if he does well and behaves himself, we could sign then him permanently in the summer – that sounds the best bet.
