Pardew After New Target – Southampton Top Midfielder

There is news in The Sun today that Alan Pardew wants money from Mike Ashley to fund a move for Southampton attacking midfielder, 22 year -old Adam Lallana.

Adam Lallana – Newcastle reported to be intereted

Alan met with both Mike Ashley and Derek LLambias last night, on the transfer situation, and it looks like a new target for Newcastle could be the 5’7″ St. Albans born midfielder.

Pardew is said to now want the Newcastle owner to fund a £5M deal for the Southampton lad, who has been at the south coast club since he was 12 years old, when he joined them from near by Bournemouth.

Lallana has played 112 times for Southampton with 26 goals and played 4 times at Bournemouth while on loan there  in season 2007-2008.

Certainly Adam is the right age for players Ashley wants to bring to the Tyneside club, but we don;t know too much about him right now, and whether Ashley would be willing to shell out £5M for this player, remains to be seen.

Lallana was in the Southampton side which hammered Oldham Athletic 6-0 away on Tuesday night, and Adam got one of the goals.

Adam joined the first team squad back in July of 2006, and made his debut in August of 2006, against Yeovil Town, when he had just turned 18 years old.

The player has already played for the England U18s, scoring on his debut against Slovenia just 18 months after undergoing an operation to correct an irregular heartbeat.

Adam finished the 2009–10 season with 20 goals in all competitions, and that made him the first Southampton midfielder ever to score 20 goals in one season.

Hit current contract expires in June of 2015, and of course we have no idea if this report has any truth in it.

What do you think?

I like the look of that Guly do Prado they have on loan – Although it is League One, you can tell he is a different class!

i know its youtube, but on youtube he looks class, he seems to have skill and pace and good passing, some of that creativity would be welcomed, but he wont get that much time on the ball in the premiership, £5mn seems a bit steep, but Pardew clearly knows the guy and his talents, so if MA is willing to dish out then i would take him ( perhaps for a bit less money though).

I’m a toon supported living in Southampton, and often head to St Mary’s. Lallana is an excellent, skillful and creative player who I feel could make the cut in the prem. At £5m I feel he would be a great signing, this kid has a very bright future ahead of him.

I would say who? but sometimes the unknown is a good thing (and a bad thing too of course)

If hes just signed a new contract last week then I cant see him coming, and hence the hightened fee, could have prob got him for about £1M last week!

Guly do Prado does look class but yes he is infact 29. Might be worth a £1m bid and an 18 month contract tho…

Lallana I do like the look of, he plays left mid too. Shame we couldn’t pick him up 4 years ago though, bit wary of picking up ‘talents’ over the age of 21 – why would another club not have picked them up already if they’re so good?

Sheffield United have completed the loan signing of West Brom defender Joe Mattock until the end of the season.

Might have been worth a punt as LB cover…

Kazenga LuaLua was also one of the best players in League 1 by a mile; unfortunately that doesn’t mean he can cut it at this level (yet).

Either way he isn’t coming after he’s just signed a contract.

@daneevz: Where have you heard that?

Just read on Sky Sports that Marseille FB Taye Taiwo is available on a free transfer end of season. 25yr old Nigerian international.

Primary position is LB but from what i’ve read on wikipedia he is very attacking and has an eye for goal. Looks like is has a better game/goal ratio then Jonas! Could push him up into midfield…

He’s a good player, but at £5m he needs to be looking at starting and he wouldn’t get in our first 11. No better than gosling, 20, who will be struggling to get in the team. A couple of mill and I’d be interested but not 5. Ben arfa, £5m and maybe ziani at £4m – that’s good business!
