News today that West Ham may move in for 36 year-old Sol Campbell, whom Newcastle signed on a free transfer in the summer, following his wedding to Northumberland resident Fiona Barratt.
Sol Campbell – Newcastle may let him go in January
But things have hardly turned out well for either Sol or Newcastle since he arrived and in the 6 appearances he’s so far made for the club, Sol has made a few errors and looked a little bit off the pace in the Premier League.
And it seems the main reason Sol came to Newcastle was to team up again with his former coach, Chris Hughton at Spurs.
Chris was doing a great job on Tyneside, having just got the club promoted at the first attempt with a massive 102 points and 30 wins and winning the Championship by 11 points from WBA.
And Chris even made a good start to the Premier League having Newcastle in the top half, but as we have found out, it looks like owner Mike Ashley was just looking for a chance to replace the Londoner, and did so when Chris had an unfortunate run of 2 points out of 5 league games, and the side were beaten 3-1 at West Brom.
Mike decided to sack Chris before the following game against Liverpool, because if he had waited there was always going to be a good chance that Newcastle would win that game, which in fact they did under new manager Alan Pardew.
Nothing like gratitude from the owner is there?
Sol is currently the 4th choice central defender on Tyneside behind Steven Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini and Mike Williamson, and with Steven Taylor back and signing a long term contract, and also playing well, although he’s out injured at the moment with his hamstring, it wouldn’t look like Sol will get too many games on Tyneside.
It wouldn’t surprise us much if Sol goes to West Ham, where he would have a better chance of getting a game, and Newcastle may even be able to get a small fee for him.
And a little more news about Adam Lallana from one of my friends, Terry, in Southampton, and he reckons Adam is the best player at Southampton.
But he also mentioned that 17 year-old Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is playing very well, but we hear Southampton want £10M for him, and some of the top four clubs may be in for him.
Newcastle had been linked with the player a few weeks ago, but Newcastle wouldn’t be able to afford the 17 year-old at that price.
There have also been some favorable comments on the site about Adam, from Southampton supporters, and we had mentioned Lallana scored 20 goals last season, and this season he already has 9 goals, so for £5M this lad may be more than a decent buy.
Somebody call Mike Ashley and tell him to buy this kid. 😀
