Newcastle Have Two Of Premier League’s Top 10 Players

A couple of years ago we used to follow the Actim index – which ranks how players have played in the Premier League.

Kevin Nolan – in 9th place

They rank various players in the PL by things like completed passes, goals scored, crosses made, saves made and the like, depending on which position they are monitoring.

And during our relegation season Newcastle didn’t have too many players in the top 100, although we remember Steven Taylor was in at around 60th place.

We looked at the latest index last night and would you believe we have two players in the top 10?

Andy Carroll and Kevin Nolan are those players, and it’s scary if they are still living in the same house. And they are actulaly on the exact same points total of 304, so really are both joint 8th, although that’s not how the Actim index shows them.

Andy Carroll – in 8th place

You can look at all the ranking here, but suffice to say that Andy Carroll is in 8th position and Kevin Nolan is in 9th position.

Here are the top 10 players this season so far in the Premier League, with their points totals.:

1	Dimitar Berbatov	Man Utd 367
2	Florent Malouda Chelsea 366
3	Gareth Bale Tottenham	351
4	Didier Drogba Chelsea 347
5	Nemanja Vidic Man Utd 333
6	Carlos Tevez Man City	318
7	Joe Hart Man City	306
8	Andrew Carroll Newcastle	304
9	Kevin Nolan Newcastle	304
10	Marouane Chamakh	Arsenal 300

Other Newcastle players in the top 100 include Joey Barton (32), Jonas Gutierrez (39) Fab Coloccini (69) and Jose Enrique (72).

Former Newcastle target Seb Larsson is in at number 30 – so he could have been a decent buy.

And Sunderland’s top player is young Jordan Henderson at number 27.

The one Newcastle player missing in the top 100 that’s a little surprising is Cheick Tiote, who is one of Newcastle’s top players this season.

Carroll would be a big miss tonight. Hopefully Leon Best gets his chance. He did a fantastic job in his last PL game.

Those lists are a joke – Malouda over Bale, Drogba over Tevez, not even sure why Vidic and Chamack are in there

These charts are a load of rubbish though, aren’t they. Clubs would be managed by accountants and statisticians if they were any good.

I agree that these lists are not the 100% right, but I am sorry If someone believes here that players like Drogba or Malouda should not be where they are in that list, these are good players. And if their statistics are good, then there is nothing wrong with that.

Of course there is no statistics to “Heart” and “fighting spirit” etc, but still, I think it is a very important thing for a player to have good % of passing, crossing or scoring, it shows quality.

And I am sure that these statistics are also based on more then 1 season stats, so it Tevez is Under Drogba, that just means that in the overall Drogba has better Stats, it doesn’t mean that RIGHT NOW he is playing better then Tevez.

Anyway, Glad to see some of our lads in that list. Shows that we have some quality in the team and it just needs to be reinforced with more great players. 2 good players this year will help us get in the top 10 in the end of the season.

Ed I think it maybe the length of time Tiote has been with us, possibly not had enough games to get the points total up.
