Newcastle Again Linked With Swansea’s Ashley Williams

News today that Newcastle are again interested in Swansea defender Ashley Williams.

Ashley Williams – Newcastle linked last year with this player

Our archives show that Newcastle started their interest in this player early last year, and there was some talk of the player in May and June of last year coming to Newcastle, so this is not the first time there has been a Magpies’ link with the player.

We watched him recently playing for Swansea and he looked a very capable defender indeed.

The Wolverhampton-born 26-year-old has played every game so far for Swansea this season, so that bodes well for both his consistency and for not getting too many injuries, and Swansea have 13 clean sheets already this season.

That’s something that Alan Pardew seems to want a lot more of at Newcastle, and the lads were so close to coming to their 3rd successive clean sheet on Sunday – oh well.

The central defender, who stands 6′ tall, started his career at Stockport County where he played 174 times with 2 goals and he has played 124 times with 6 goals so far for Swansea City, since moving there, initially on loan, in March of 2008. He has 24 caps for Wales.

Williams is a good player, and was Swansea’s Player Of The Season and was also named in the PFA Championship team of the Season for last season.

Ashley was named in central defense alongside Newcastle’s Fabricio Coloccini, who may have had his best game ever for the club on Sunday.

One good thing is that Williams can also play at right back, so he could fight for a first team place on two fronts,  if he did arrive on Tyneside.

Because Newcastle have been linked with this player before, and that he’s hardly missed a game since moving to Swansea, we have to think he would be a good buy for Newcastle and the story may even be true.

But since Swansea have already turned down £2M bids for the player,  Newcastle may have to increase that offer, but we like this lad, and think he could get better playing in the Premier League.

We don’t know if this story is true – but we hope it is.

Just imagine the two center backs at Newcastle could be Williams and Williamson – a commentator’s nightmare.

What do you think?

we need a centre back whos got toughness and courage (along with talent).

look at rio and vidic. rio is the technique, vidic is the steel.

williamson is good, but not great

I would prefer if we looked for wingers and young talent.

Dont think we need anyone at CB TBH

Great – because we really need a central defender don’t we?
It’s a decent striker we are crying out for and maybe a better quality right winger … and how about a creative midfield player – that would be novel.
A central defender is last on the list I’m afraid.
    Get your priorities right Pardew.

Our back line could be –

    Taylor Williamson Williams Taylor

Then give them all number 88 and Coloccini hair and confuse the f&&&ok outta attackers! 😀

He is a good player though and can fill in at left back as well.

    Gradel for Smith

    Taarabat for Routledge

    would do me.

    Neither will happen.

Leeds and QPR are trying to hold onto their best players, so would be asking silly money for them.

As for Smith or Rout going out:

Noone wants him, especially on his wage.
    He is injured – again.

    I like the lad,
He is a good player to have on the bench and bring on for an injection of pace.

i think swansea had a better defence last year than us so they must of some quality back there and we only have 3 top centre backs at the moment so i dont see any harm in another one tbh.

Could be good buy. Campbell is finished, and Kadar is very injury prone. Went to Huddersfield on loan and is injured yet again. Williams would be good addition especially as he can also cover at right back.
