Surprise news coming through that Wayne Routledge looks set to sign for Queens Park Rangers, on loan until the end of the season.
Wayne Routledge – in action against Chelsea
We had reported this morning that Neil Warnock wanted the winger back in London, but we thought there would be little chance of Newcastle agreeing to the deal.
Surely Newcastle haven’t agreed to this without having some suitable replacement through the end of the season already lined up?
It’s a good deal for QPR and a good deal for Wayne, who at least will now play regularly for QPR, and could help his former club get promoted.
The winger joined Newcastle only last January, and while he played well last season regularly, he has been in and out of the side so far this season.
Routledge has appeared 36 times for the Newcastle club with three goals, all scored last season.
We await the other shoe to fall – and expect Newcastle to bring in a winger soon – very soon hopefully.
Maybe Newcastle have Shaun Wright-Phillips on loan from Manchester City lined up – but we really have no idea who may be coming in – if anybody.
Of course Dan Gosling can play out on the wing and a certain Ben Arfa should be ready to play for the first team in a few more weeks, after recovering form his double leg fracture.
