Local lad and still top goal-scorer, Andy Carroll – he has one more goal than his best mate Kevin Nolan, has talked about being delighted that Geordie John Carver has again been appointed Newcastle Assistant Manager.
John Carver – back home training the lads yesterday
Andy is out of the game against Spurs at home on Saturday, because of his rather troublesome thigh injury, and that’s really unfortunate for the side, because the 22 year-old is so good these days.
But he remembers John from the time John took over the Newcastle Youth Academy shortly after Graeme Souness took over as Newcastle manager in September of 2004, and that was a few weeks after Sir Bobby Robson was sacked.
Andy would have been 15 years old at the time, and he talked the official Newcastle United web-site today:
“It’s good to see him back. I played under him at the Academy and he was a good coach then, so I’m really pleased that he’s back.”
“When I worked with him I was young, and that’s when you learn the most. So I learned a lot from him because I was still learning my trade.”
“He was always very good with me and I’m grateful for the part he’s played in where I am now.”
“He’s from round here and knows what the club is all about and, from a personal point of view, he knows what I’m all about. He’s a great lad and I consider him a great friend, really.”
Since John left the club, in 2005, he’s been around a bit, but that’s all good experience for what he can now bring to the famous Newcastle club.
John’s appointment is initially short term and will last for six months, but we hope once Alan and John prove they can work well together, that contract will be extended long term, and maybe will be extended through the time Alan is contracted to the club – the summer of 2016.
That will certainly help bring some stability to the Newcastle club – which is badly needed – and we have to hope that owner Mike Ashley doesn’t keep sacking the managers.

Comment #122QPR may have wealthy owners however they run the club like a business and not a plaything hence the fact they are only now the best team in the championship despite being one of the richest clubs in the world for the last 3-4 years they haven’t spent ridiculous amounts of money and have only bought players they need I.e routledge if they wanted him they could easily afford him so why only take him on loan, so In my opinion if we offered the right money I believe we could get taarabt…

Comment #123Routledge is a championship quality player, nothing more. He was QPR’s best, he was good for us, then he made the step up and realised he couldn’t cut it.
He knows it too and he lacks the confidence because of it. Not disappointed he’s gone, SWP would be a good replacement.

Comment #124davybtoon;
Yes but Taarabt doesn’t want to leave.
(1) He’s at a london club, which is important to alot of players.
(2) QPR will probably be in the prem next year.
(3) If they do get in the prem, they will be able to spend a ridiculous amount of money, more than man city, because of their owners and so could well be challenging for europe.
(4) At the moment, he is QPR’s best player and guaranteed to play every game, something which might not happen if he joined us.

Comment #128QPR are not as rich as Manchester City, and are unlikely to spend anywhere near as much.
It was confirmed after Man City were taken over that QPR has slipped down to the position of the second richest club in England, and their owners are clearly not interested in the City structure of “spend, spend, spend”.
Taarabt stated in an interview with Moroccan TV in October that he would be interested in a move to Newcastle in the January transfer window.

It took a hell of a lot of work for Warnock to convince him that QPR was the club for him. I don’t think it would be too difficult to convince him otherwise.

Comment #131Do you really think it would make sense for a business to sell their biggest asset, their best player and jeopardise their chance of promotion and £80m? Even if he wanted to leave, they would tell him they would only sell him at the end of the season because they can’t miss out on promotion this year.
And the difference with us buying Routledge last season is that they were in mid table last Jan and had no chance of promotion so they didn’t stand in the players way.

Comment #135lol daffy “glad he’s gone”
49% of your goals since he signed were scored by him, the money you lot are left with, once you see it, that is, will go on signing your starting XI loans – but not Welbeck, he’s going home.
We’ll see you next season with this seasons squad 😉

Comment #139I certainly hope so, if I was Pards, I would tap the player up – tell him how wonderful it would be to play infront of 52,000 fans. I’m sure once the seed has been planted – he would force the issue and hand in a tranfer request

Comment #146Why do people want Taarabt so badly?
He’s clearly very talented and can do the unexpected but i think people are blinded by his skills, he’s also he’s far too inconsistant, lazy and he has a terrible attitude.
I don’t think he would fit in well with the group that we have as they all seem to be pulling in the same direction and there seems to be a good togetherness. Taarabt is all for himself he hangs on to the ball too long and doesn’t know when to release it.
I think the reason he’s doing so well at QPR is because Neil Warnock has made him his star player and massages his ego for him but if he came here he just wouldn’t be the main man. We probably couldn’t get away with Ben Arfa and Taarabt in the same team and i know who i would rather have.
