Alan Smith Injury Update – He’s Out For The Season

Well would you believe it – we were thinking that Alan Smith could be out for up to two months, and thought that was bad enough – but news later today that Alan Smith is out for the season.

Alan Smith – being strangled by Titus Bramble on Sunday

When Alan went downΒ  injured on Sunday, he seemed to know immediately it was a bad injury,Β  and unfortunately it was the same ankle that was mangled badly when he was playing at Manchester United.

Alan Pardew is now fearful Alan is out for the season, and it seems there could well be some complications from the previous injury, and this is hardly good news for Alan Smith.

The Leeds lad has had to change the way he plays because of that previous bad injury,Β  and this will not help him much at all, and we’re really sorry to hear about this.

Newcastle manager Pardew told Press Association Sport:

“Because he’s had a dislocation and a break on that ankle before, when you get a heavy blow like he did it’s a very low recovery rate.”

There’s only 11 days left in this transfer window, and this should be further incentive for Alan Pardew to bring in some new players, if only on loan for the rest of the season.

But this is not good news for Alan Smith – and again we think this may be a really bad injury for the player.

Comments welcome.

Not gonna say this is good news, cos i don’t think any of our players getting injured is good news, regardless of how good they are. Hope he recovers well and comes back as strong as he once was.

Smudger lucky to be still playing after the injury he sustained at manure. I wish him all the best.

It’s true we never look likely to score only conced when Smith is playing, hope he gets better soon, but we have plenty of midfielders at the moment.

@ Listie – I am thinking the same. Never want any player to get injured but this does allow us to see the likes of Gosling, Guthrie and maybe Vuckic in his place. Honestly we need to replace Smith as he offers us nothing apart from dedication and a joke or two in the dressing room. Sad to hear bout his injury but it could be good news too as this will force Pardew’s hand in the transfer market.

Sorry to see anyone get injured, however as Smith was getting limited playing time, should`nt have a major effect.
Hopefully Tiote may have learned he can` go around collecting cards, the way he has.

@ Chuck – Yeah Tiote is awesome but he does have to be more careful with the bookings. He has to learn very quick though as we can’t afford to have him out of the team anymore. He’s indispensable for us.

I am so fed up of rumors and really want to see a quality player signed already!! Everyday I check the news with anticipation only to be left wanting. We’re on a tight rope at the moment and with each passing day without someone in through the door it’s like another cut in our rope until we ultimately fall down to the Championship.

Sorry to hear about Alan Smith, hope he recovers as fast as possible.
He got the injury in war against the scum so kudos to Smudger.

SSN saying Gosling has suffered a set-back, hope this isn’t too serious.

this is getting a bit weird.

Gosling – has had a small injury setback ( dont know the details)

    Smith- is out

Nolan – throat infection, will start, but not last 90 min.

How that midfield will look beats me… But Guthrie will start and that is a major blow.. he alone may very well cost us the game.

Didnt see the point of Ireland on loan till about an hour ago.. Midfielders are dropping like flies so makes sense.
I cant believe Nolan is a doubt because of a sore throat. Could be a blessing as will struggle to get so many pies down his neck.
On the Gosling front I had my ACL rebuilt some years ago and its a shocker to rehab and get match fit again. 12 years on it swells after every game still.
Though I am a 40 year old “old school” centre half who likes a tackle.
Hope its nothing worse than a settling in knock.
Feel sorry for the kid at 5under1and who has done his after just getting back.
Smithy is a top bloke who will get back to it, ok he has not had a great season but his attitude is excellant. Has had to try and reinvent himself form a striker to attacking midfielder then a holding midfielder.
Must be something there as a succession of managers keep picking him.

With all the inures and setbacks the Ireland deal might be making a bit of sense.

    Barton – Ireland – Nolan – Jonas

Nolan off on the hour for Guthrie? Or maybe routledge if he’s still here and let Joey move into the middle.

Guthrie made the one mistake which cost us a game, every player makes mistakes in a season FFS give the kid a chance.

He is possibly the best passing midfielder we have after Barton and needs a run of games. He also has a good dig on him and has scored some pearlers in the last couple of seasons!

All the best to him, but to be fair he is awful and this is good news on a footballing front.

He’s the only player I know of in professional football who doesnt have a position.

He can’t play defensive midfield because he doesn’t have the positional sense or passing ablilty of someone like Tiote. And he is also a poor tackler who will get booked every game.

He neither has the flair, passing ability, pace, technical ability or vision to be an attacking midfielder.

His best chance of ressurecting his career at Championship level is as a striker. That’s how he made it to the big time and he is proven in this position. However he doesn’t compliment Carroll well and we have better strikers at this club so he isnt good enough for us.

He was my man of the match against Sunderland by the way, helped us nearly win the game by being injured.

Shame really. Although he’s not rated by the majority on here he does provide some decent cover/competition for Tiote which could have been one of the reasons Tiote was playing so well.

Still waiting for us to sign someone though Pards…thought someone was close to coming in 3 weeks ago?

We’re looking really thin on the ground now in midfield. Are there any details about Gosling’s setback? Somebody posted on 606 that he just sat out training. Guthrie’s chance now, played well against the great unwashed so he can do the job.

Sold in the summer to Leeds for half a packet of crisps and a very milky tea with 4 sugars, probably.

Sincerely hope somebody comes in tomorrow. We’ll be lucky to have anyone on the bench!!!

I’m not writing the points off for this fixture already, but it doesn’t look good.

Opposition have run rings around him all season, and his fouling around the box does us no favours. Can’t help but remember how shocking Ireland was for villa on his debut against us. Don’t like the idea of him coming in, and agree it’s the perfect opportunity to blood guthrie/ gosling and vuckic,, or bring in a right sided player and put barton in the centre.

MGPedersen? Very astute and postive wide attacker, good crosser with an eye for goal.

we have good youngsters coming through the ranks aswell, cant really see us getting anyone in for more than +3 mill and under that there aint many players that will improve the squad that much. We got Lua Lua coming back next season his got pace and his got potential aswell.

I wonder how many people are happy that smith is injured… Just goes to show we live in a sad society if ur happy that one of our own players is injured! He wasn’t first choice and has player where ever he has been asked to play with no moaning at all he’s that much of a professional he would probably have a crack at playing in goals if he was told to play there…. I have a lot of respect for smith he might be on a lot of money but it’s what he was offered to sign how many people could honestly say they would turn down Β£60k a week, the ones who say they would are lying at the end of the day he stayed with us when we got relegated unlike a lot of other scumbags who jumped ship as soon as the final whistle went at villa park and he seems to be well liked amongst the whole team as well!!!

    Newcastle Rumours
A.c. . . going but not till summer m.a. . . . wants to much. . . price will be lower in summer then h.r gets his man. .

That sounds stupid to me, why would the price be lower in the summer? If carroll does get back from this injury soon he should have plenty of games left in the season to bump his value up even more.

I know a lot of people don’t like Smith but I think he brings a lot to the squad he’s obviously a popular guy and provides cover for a number of positions he may not be the player he used to be at Leeds and Man U but he will be missed. If Gosling has suffered a set back (I had a serious knee injury when I was 25 & it took 2 years to get back I played step 5 level I am now 60 & need a knee replacement so I know this can happen) then I think getting Ireland is a good idea we are starting to look a bit thin on the ground maybe we should also keep Routledge until we have a replacement signed.
