Newcastle Interested In Top Swiss Winger

Sky Sports is reporting that Newcastle United have made an inquiry for 25 year-old Swiss winger  Tranquillo Barnetta.

Tranquillo Barnetta – currently at Bayer Leverkusen

The 25-year-old can play on either wing or as a withdrawn striker, and has been  linked before with a move to the Premier League.

Barnetta has 18 months left on his current contract, and Juventus were also reported to have an interest in the player in December.

His agent Barry McIntosh, who represents his interests only in Britain,  has today confirmed there is  interest in his client:

“I cannot name clubs, but there is Premier League interest and we are looking at the options,”

“But is also remains to be seen if Bayer Leverkusen are willing to let him go.”

The St. Gallen born Tranquillo has played 173 times with 23 goals for Bayer Leverkusen, whom he joined in January of 2004 from his home town club St. Gallen.

The 5’10” tall player has represented his country Switzerland ,  58 times.

We have no idea if Newcastle are really interested in this player.

Tranquillo was an ever present in the 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign, as the Swiss secured a finals place by finishing top of their group, and the player was also a regular in the FIFA World Cup finals in South Africa last summer.

Thats more like it off from the crappy targets of (Larsson/Ireland) and onto quality players, would be a very astute signing on a loan to view to buy or outright buy everytime i see Bayern he offers width and crosses well. seems he Intraarticular ligament crack (german site) so probs Ligament Damage which could make him fail any medical! On transfermarkt they rate him at over £7 Mill, was wanted many times by Arsenal in 09

Barnetta is a fantastic footballer, I’d be delighted if we signed him. Not getting my hopes up though…

The delays on the Routledge deal were down to QPR – it had nothing to do with us searching for a replacement.

Barnetta would be an excellent signing. Better than Stephen “retired from international football because of my own lies” Ireland.

CraigC – more concerning to me is that we keep our main players. Have heard anything in that direction?

Now that we have signed Hatem I just want to make sure Carroll. Collo, Barton or Enrique do not leave.

I would willingly settle for no more players in but them still being our players when the window closes.

a cant believe weve loaned another midfielder out without someone already being signed surely it would of been better to wait until after the match this weekend? pardew is doing me head in a little bit saying we need pace and creativity on the wings and stuff yet he wants Seb Larsson? no pace and can only cross i would take him yes but it goes against what he says.. steven ireland would be fantastic as he is quick and also scores and creates goals, Barnetta is immense seen him play quite alot but will he settle straight away in this league? we need players in fast as we will slip down this table our team is falling apart with injuries..weve rushed gosling back far too quickly which any decent medical adviser should hav known tht a player who has been injured for nearly a year with an extremly bad injury cant come back and play nearly 2 full games in space of 4 days its pathetic.. Routledge has done quite well for us when he’s played only problem is final ball but jonas is just as rubbish and a dont see him shafted out..
WHERE ARE THESE NEW PLAYERS PARDEW.!!!!!!

i agree with you Mags we need to tie our players down to new contracts. If at the beginning of the window someone said we are going to only bring in HBA and concentrate on keeping our main players here i would have been really happy with that.

GAZ0 (19) so chuffed someone else feels the same.

I do not mind admitting I am running scared one or more of these players maybe sold, my biggest fears being Carroll and Enrique.

The sooner we can get new contracts for Jose and Joey B the sooner I can relax.

no we need wingers though and a still believe we need a good quick strike partner for Carroll but ad rather tht was left until the summer.. I would like to see Ireland and Jarvis and Barnetta at a push but a think he’s an unrealistic signing

Play perch at left back and Jose on the wing at least perch gives 100% and can be helped by Jose surely if I was Ashley and looking at the league position u would think we have a good chance of Europe get a couple of very good signing in and go for it or is that just a stupid idea?

Overall im really happy with this season so far, decent position in the league with loads more gettable points for us 2 great signings in HBA and Tiote and the rest of the lads playing way better than we all imagined. People are just getting far too carried away with the club and transfers. I say start the real buying gin the summer and give a few chances to some of the youngsters.
