With Harry Redknapp’s Tottenham visiting Newcastle today, we look back to three years ago, when Harry Redknapp was offered the Newcastle manager job, after Sam Allardyce was sacked.
Harry Redknapp – terrific job at Tottenham
Of course Harry took over at Tottenham several months after he had finally turned down the Newcastle job, in January of 2008.
It seems that Harry had initially accepted the job, but then the story goes that on the Friday night after telling M<ike Ashley he would take the job, he had dinner with his wife and friends, and he (or they?), changed his mind, and Kevin Keegan was appointed the following Wednesday.
But we have to wonder whet would have happened if Harry had taken over the Newcastle club – and certainly it’s hard to think the team would have been relegated two years ago.
But it’s also hard to think that Newcastle would have been relegated if owner Mike Ashley hadn’t done the dirty on Kevin Keegan in the transfer business.
Anyway, we’re getting depressed even discussing it again, and we’re sorry we even brought it up.
Suffice to say that Newcastle are now in a lot better shape than 18 months ago, and we just hope Alan Pardew can take the club to the next step, in our revival.
We all know Chris was little short of magnificent in the 18 months he was in the job.
And from what we’ve seen of Alan Pardew, he could just be so inspired at being the Newcastle manager, he could continue the Newcastle rise back to potential greatness – and may do even better than even he thinks he can.
We hope so in case, but we’re not getting too carried away these days – that relegation was just too much of a reality check for us.
But first things first – and we are looking for a win – yes all 3 points this afternoon, as the next mini step.
