An interesting comment from Alan Pardew after the game today – when he was talking to Sky Sports.
Great shot of Alan and Harry before the game today
Alan Pardew, though disappointed with only a draw today, after another good second half display by Newcastle, was asked if he was satisfied with the current squad he has, and this is what he said:
“I’m pretty close to securing another player of our squad and that will be a big bonus for the club,”
“So I’ve concentrated on that, if one becomes available I think can help then great, but the squad players for me are doing terrific.”
“There is a good feeling in the group and good strength.”
We have to hope that player will be Joey Barton, because Joey had another very good game today, and he’s said many times he would like to see out his career on Tyneside.
Yes, it’s been terrible the way we’ve given up 4 points in injury time these last two games, but that also masks the fact we were the better side in successive games against top six sides.
So that cannot be too bad, to look on the positive side of things.
We have to hope the new contract is for Joey Barton, who has been tremendous for the club this season, and then the next in line will be Jose Enrique. And hopefully we’ll get some luck in these games soon – before this season comes to an end.
Comments welcome.

Comment #41@john_cena163 – Thanks for that piece, very interesting. What caught my eye is the part it says he’s been in contact with Newcastle until this Wednesday when the deal was pulled off AGAIN! That means we’re still trying to lure this guy to Tyneside. Maybe that’s why Routledge was given the all clear as Seb’s arrival seems imminent.

Kostas Mitroglou- Good talent better then shola big guy holds the ball with skills, recently went on loan to panionios and scored 2 on his debut.
Giannis Fetfatzidis- Masterclass in the making
Kyriakos Papadopoulos- Very intelligiant and strong defender. Big future ahead of him.
Vassilios Koutsianikoulos- Hyped and touted the greek messi, but got lost in a bigger greek club, still has quick feet and ability.
Cris Mavrias- Very young and talented some scouts need to keep an eye on him.
A few which will be good for the toon would be.
Vasillis Pliatsikas- DM very good player in my eyes, was in the schalke starting line up before injuring his knee for a year.
Ninis- Was always meant to be a big star but 2 expensive linked with United.
Sell Xisco, Ameobi and bring in Georgiadis been scoring for fun in recent games big future for him.
It seems i am picking all the greeks for the toon, would be nice for 1 to come in for me lol. :). Pardew said we was close to a new addition 2 i heard in his interview.

Comment #44Supervil @ 36, I agreed with most of your poast and was with you until the last part. Jonas may be unable to cross regularly, but his runs, and his ability to break defences make him a key man for us. Somebody on another thread suggested sticking him on the right as he does seem more comfortable passing right-left? Worth a thought.

Comment #47@G – Well Gutierrez did start to play for us on the right but was quickly moved to the left because of the great understanding he has with Jose Enrique. I would like to see Guti given another shot on the right to see if his crosses improve. The fact of the matter is we desperately need another winger similar to Ben Arfa and a quick striker/poacher similar to Bellamy and we’ll be flying. Ameobi and Best don’t convince me and Xisco who? lol

Comment #48I’m still absolutely gutted about today. Another late goal. There is nothing worse than a late goal losing your team points! Still we looked good, Lovenkrands should’ve scored, Ranger shoulda went down or cut it back or score! Still did well to get into the position, still feel he is a huge prospect!

Comment #52Aye if you had offered me 2 points from the last 2 games last saturday even with tiote and carroll i would’ve bit your hand off! Team is playing really positively atm. Perhaps too positive for our own good in the last few minutes, but even still really enjoying watching us. Can’t wait to see Ben Arfa back, another quality player to an improving team

Comment #53@AndyE93 – Ranger is a great prospect he just needs to find his shooting boots. If I were Pardew I’ll make Beardsley show him how it’s done for hours until he gets it. I have very high hopes for the lad too. He really needs to learn fast like Carroll did as he will always be compared to him as he’s the other ‘big’ lad. I just hope Pardew and co still see his massive potential cuz even though he’s signed a new contract he still could be sold at any moment.

Comment #59Yup I agree he should go out on loan and we should sign a better replacement for the first team too. Carroll made massive strides of progress by playing consistently on loan. Ranger could too I have no doubt.

Comment #60really could do with a new signing to freshen things up even if its just a loan deal we could do with someone coming in. other than that weve started 2011 incredibly interms of the premier league.
2 wins 2 draws and weve done it largely without carroll taylor tiote benarfa and no new signings.
so when we get four of our best players and potentially a new face into the side we should finish the season in relative style. the potential run that we could go on is vast, 7 straight wins anyone?

Comment #61i wouldn’t say being out on loan improved Carroll too much, he was never prolific when he was out on loan. I think if we do loan him out it’s essential it’s too someone who will help to benefit the lad. Playing for a top league 1 side or top championship side will be good, playing with players with confidence and having a hat load of chances! maybe loan him to Clarkey at Huddersfield?

Comment #67On another note if we’re talking signing strikers i think we should sign Gary Hooper. I know everyone is going to bring up the whole “mickey mouse league” crack but he is a prolific finisher! I’ve seen nearly all of his goals as my old man is a Celtic fan. 12 goals in 14 games is quality for any striker in any league. He’s much like Darren Bent in the way he scores tap ins and most of his goals in the six yard box but he also has the pace to get in behind players. Would love to see him and big Andy combine! Possibly a future England strike force

Comment #70Yeh he wasn’t prolific but it helped him gain valuable experience and develop his game. Couple that with focus training on his shooting on Hughton’s instructions and he’s on fire now. If Pardew could send him to Huddersfield like you say it will be great for the lad especially with Clarkey’s guidance on him.
It’s just so frustrating to be just a fan, we always want more control 🙂

Spot on, also why not do the same with all player weaknesses, crossing being the most urgent for our Argentinian winger and Routledge who has now gone to QPR how to run into the box and force penalties.

Comment #76I think Jonas is one of our best players! His running relieves pressure on our team almost every game and even if he doesn’t always get a good ball in he does win tons of free kicks and corners! if he could learn how to cross he would be unstoppable!
